I was working on the hoof in the lower right and had it enlarged to fill the screen. Afterwards I noticed a number of spikes had been inadvertenly created in the process. Any idea why or how to avoid that?

Thanks, Bob

Edit: WIP/121

Took the Zsphere thing as far as I could. Symmetrical modeling not used. Fashioned after Leo's 26' bronze horse now in Italy from photos found on the internet. Still needs work. Thanks for looking.

you may be having the same problem I do with my tablet....my pen sticks or something and I have to constantly tap it on it's side so it releases the tool. If anyone else has a better solution I too would love to hear it to also correct my own troubles....

Edit...I dont know if we are having the same troubles after all by looking at the pic...what mode are you in while in edit mode and this is happening?

It is possible you were inadvertently grabbing the geometry 'behind' the hoof when it was scaled up, thus introducing the spikes (and depressions).

I have done this sort of thing before when scaling a model up bigger than the canvas.

Whatever the cause, the easiest way to avoid your problem here is to mask all of the model bar the part you want to work on.

Thanks for all the replies. Of course! Mask everything else. Obvious now you say it. I was careful not to have the model behind the hoof because this had happened before. If I can tidy it up I'll post the whole model soon.

Hey, I stumbled on the cause of spikes! When zooming way in with the pivot point on the hoof something strange happens. You swing the model around and see only the hoof and the normal gray area. Click and drag in that area, but the model will not rotate any more. I did this many times and that's what caused the spikes because although it showed only background actually there was geometry there. This was discouvered by zooming back out at which time the polygons reappeared.

So, If you click and drag to rotate and nothing happens then hit undo, size downwards and rotate in the real background area.

Fantastic! Do you plan on texturing this too? If so, I can't wait for that!

Good job. :D

Great model in full anatomy! :D :tu: :tu: :tu:
And Thx !
I have never seen a horse from the "top view" (only by side or front)
It's less elegant, not adventageous in this view ;)
