Hey guys, I'm having a problem wrapping eye textures on a sphere, the texture comes out kinda distored, would anyone be nice enough to explain and show me the process of wrapping the attached texture onto a sphere?

Thanks to everyone who reply, its highly appreciated!

hey mr.z ! you could try it this way : set your eye-texture to the background (try fill layer when texture selected) and then create you eyeball. Now use the "copy 3d"-method, you find the setting in /transform/3d copy/copy 3d (eyeball must be selected). Or perhaps you can modifie the width and hight of you texture with photoshop, set them to something like width 140 pixels and hight 70 pixels. This way the texture won't be stretched. hope this helped :(

Thanks d0, I know that method, but if I use it, then I have to make the sphere very big for the texture to drop correctly onto it, there must be a better way, and also, I dont want to make the texture smaller, coz then it'll lose its quality, thanks for trying to help me though, I really do appreciate it mate :)

Anyone else have any idea of another way to do it?

The thing about cylindrical mapping on a globe (which is what you have here) is that you get distortion as you get closer to the poles.

The easiest solution to your situation is as follows:

1) Draw your sphere on the canvas so that it fills up almost all of the canvas and is centered.
2) Load TextureMaster
3) Drop the Sphere
4) Select the Plane3D primitive, the FlatColor material, and load your eye texture.
5) Draw the plane above the sphere. Use the Rotate gyro and set the Transform>Info sliders to set the orientation to 0,0,0 Use the Move gyro to position it over the center of the sphere and the Scale gyro to resize it up to whatever you want. Press T to leave Edit mode.
6) Press the Pick button in TextureMaster. The texture from the plane will be transferred to the texture for the sphere, distorted correctly.

Here's an example where I did just that:

The texture looks distorted when unwrapped, but is perfect when wrapped onto the sphere (which is shown with the Toy Plastic material).

It was so simple, I cant believe I didn't think of that, I owe you man, I've got a copy of Dosch Animal and Creature eyes, ever since I got it I couldn't use it...TILL NOW!

Thnx buddy, here's my result!

I have one more big problem, how do I unwrap the textures?

I seem to have forgotten how to do it.

Create new layer, select texture, fill layer.
This will unwrap the texture and fill the layer so you may work on the texture some more. When your done, MRGBZ grab the layer, turn off the textured filled layer, and draw a new 3D sphere with the texture selected.

***EDIT***

Also, if you are interested. Here is a script of a second method for making eye textures. I prefer using this method because I feel it is easier and has greater freedom of creativity. Now, I know it is lame looking, but I made it in like a minute. It is the method thats important.

Enjoy!
