Hi!

This is my first head. In modelling mode, not finishied. In any mode, not finished. I've just tryed it out.

If you more experienced would look at the pictures and suggest what I should do in other ways, it would be very helpful!

Thanks in advance!

subdivide the ears to avoid the jaggies at stretch points, this is done with masking an area and then dividing one part.

Smooth the model to lose the poly squares sticking out.

Pray to Marcel, Ken Brilliant, and Southern so that they may bless you with mad skills ;) .... or chase down their tutorials and web sites

How do I mask a specific area and then subdivide?

My english and knowledge is quite limited so please explain it to me like to a child, very simple. =)

ok here goes

1) while editing model!
2) hold down <Ctrl> key to draw mask on object
3) you will see area darken where you are applying mask
4)now expand your "Tool" pallette
5) expand "Modifier" section under "Tool"
6) expand "Selection"
7) Press the <Inverse> button (top right of pallette)
8) now you have "masked" everything but that area you painted with the mask brush
9)now expand the "Deformation" area under "Tool" pallette
10) at the bottom of "Deformation" press the <Divide> button
11) now you can go back to "Selection" and select "Clear" to clear the mask or you can press the "Divide" button again if you need more detail

Thank's for the kind reply. Great piece of software this!

And kudos to you KingSalami for the understandable explanation.

A few more q about this.

>9)now expand the "Deformation" area under "Tool" pallette

Either if I want to divide, smooth or whatever ... is it the selected/"masked" area that is affected by the actions? Or is it the none selected, since you suggested to invert after masking the ear?

Also another thing; is there any good tutorial on coloring and materialing human skin? I don't find soothing colors for that purpose. While at it, what is the easiest way to fill for example lips with a different color. It gets kind of messy when I'm painting different colors for different parts of the face.

Hi Tjomp
Yes it's some curious :)
You must select a zone aera in Edit mode (Cttrl) These is black when you choose, and you must "Inverse" for valid it :)
Now all effects will be valuable for this "White aera" (black before) :)

Ps Color of skin :

Just thought I'd update with the changes I made after getting help about masking, smoothing etc. I think I'll add some wrinkles between eyes, maybe on his forhead too. Then I'll give my best at teeth and eyes.

Any suggestions, or pointers at what to do?
