Hi,

I am playing around with sculptris for a some weeks now and I am still in love :o

I love the frog... I've seen a lot of people take on that species in 3D with much less success.

Love the painting on the last head, was it painted in Sculptris?

Thank's for the nice comments.
Everything was done in sculptris only!

(O.K. photoshop helped in merging some pics together, but nothing more)

you seem to be having fun and your paintings are nice also. Im usually not a big fan of detail but your using it to make your characters unique. which everyone doesnt do. but its working for you.

Knacki

Thanks a lot tyree1!
Here is the painted version.

Really nice work. In fact I wish I'd done it. They say that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, so don't be surprised if I do my own frog. :)

@all - Thanks
@celtic3d - Please go for it! It would be fun to see more frogs jumping around here ;)

Today, I spend some time in overworking one of my first sculptris models.
This lady was done completely out of imagination:

Nice changes on the lady's head, I think the forehead should be a little bit more on the back but it might be just me.

09-09-10, 04:18 PM
That last head turned out really well. I'd agree with Mr.T on the forehead. Seems a bit pushed forward on the side view, but it could be that's what the ref looked like.

The Head came out really nice and the improvement you made from the first post is awesome, I like the detail you put into her lips did you sculpt it in or is it a Bump affect? The big question is are you going to paint her, from the standard you painted your Frog she would look excellent.
Keep up the good work Knacki i'l be looking forward to future work.

Knacki

So far sculpting only.

Someone start solving "problems" in a very old fashioned german way:

Unfortunately I haven't solve my problems with baked AO.
It's already looking like this in 3dsmax if I apply the baked AO map there.
In the moment, my computer is calculating 1024x1024 "tight mapping" ...since 10 Minutes .
That's one horrible close-up of my problem:

Mr.T
09-28-10, 03:30 AM
Obelix must have been searching for him for days now :D

As for your Sarkozy it looks like an unwrap problem but I might be wrong,
how heavy is the mesh? If it's not too heavy you could have a look at the
uvs and see if there is no overlapping poly/tris in the mouth area.

If you have Photoshop cs2 and up you could try (still if the obj is not too
heavy) to import and try editing the textures onto the object.

Great work :tu:

Knacki
09-29-10, 04:44 PM
Serek - I think he has already eaten :D
piz- Thank you very much.
Tartan - he has style! I still love to read Asterix. Uderzo is a brilliant caricaturist. I am happy that I could captured the figure. To show his character I will have to break symmetry and spent much more time ;)
Mr.T. - Obelix is already very angry about me :D
Thanks for the tips. I fixed it. I didn't make the teeth properly. That caused problems.

I tried a sketch shader on one of my abstracts.

Thank's Tartan. Glad you like it.
@blueferret you are correct. I was mixing styles a little bit....but who knows :D

Today I tried to copy the style of an unknown artist :D
Played around with the possibilities of adding tech like geometry.
Worked with rulers and a lot of alphas.
Anyway, mesh tris increased dramatically so I had to reduce them.

While reducing detail get lost again.

Finally there is a kind of workaround and due to anthony44 tips it could have been even much better executed.

Yeah, Chopin! Nice Caricature.

You should try to bring out his facial structure a bit more, its a tad too
soft right now. It has this smooth "ice cream"-feeling right now. Hair is great
as well. It has a nice flow to it.

Continue working on him. Wanna see where this is going.:)

That TopMod sounds interesting, can you make a quick review/where-to-start-guide please?

Knacki
01-29-11, 04:02 AM
Thank you xenoforge.

if you google Chopin you will see around twenty paintings and some Busts displaying different people all called Chopin :D
Two real Photos are existing.

So my Chopin is a combination of the photo, one bust and one profile drawing and a summary of the rest ignoring the impossible ones.

Compared with the rest the posted reference belongs to one of the other Chopins :D

It's impossible to find the real truth.

Detail on him is all I need - but thanks maybe later I will follow your suggestions.

@serek

TopMod is kind like sculptris - start, try and feel like a big creator after ten minutes ;)

Great works Knacki!

You have to be French to nail Idefix and 'lil Sat'Nic in the same post:D.
You beat me to the little bugger, however I never thought about doing the dog.

For the AO issue you may be using too big of a "cell-padding" value when you bake your AO map.
If your UV map is small (ex:1K) and the cell padding is set too high (ex:8 pixels) when you do the AO bake, the shadows overlap the edges of your UV layout by 8 pixels, resulting in other parts of you texture map receiving "shadows" when they shouldn't.
If this is the case, you'll need a larger UV layout for your model or simply a smaller value for your (cell-padding/shadow-bleed).
I could be wrong...

Ohh! by the way...

Who's using TopMod? I think that "I" was the one to mention it? I could be taking false credit, however I'd like to see what you guys have done with it! I've Personnaly wasted a bit of time on it and the results are too unpredictable to be of any feasible/workable use.

Nicksc - thanks a lot.

Ohh Djeust, I am just sorry not answering your kind comments.
Haven't gone much deeper into this AO backing, but thanks for your suggestions. No, I am not French.
But I would love to...for some days, some days English some Brasillian, some days US, Canadian, Spain, Indian, Chinese, Japanese and relaxed Greek before crisis. With all the cultural background. That would be real fun and would make me richer than everyone else in the world. But I am "just" German. Have to be enough for this live. Next time ;)

You are kind of correct about topmod. Search youtube......or was it vimeo? Some students spent a little lifetime in it and the results are remarkable.

Long time no post.
"Man from Atlantis" - I wasn't thinking about this old TV nonsense during sculpting. Not sure if I was thinking anyway :D Just playing with Alpha6

I made this, but anyway I was more unsatisfied with the perspective look of my work than the display in sculptris.

But it's very important to put FOV on a low level around 25 to avoid optical distortions. Thanks a lot for this hint.

Knacki,

Finally got a moment to look through your thread. Really like your Chopin and your Dinobunny vs. Carrot. That last one is top drawer, very funny stuff. The abstract material is pretty but not really my bag. I would never have thought it done with sculptris though, so kudos for pushing the application. The only crit I could give would be with the head studies, and it's basically that I'd like to see clearer planes on them at such an early stage. Sculptris is mushy to begin with and it seems to me without imposing a bit of structure on the model to start with, you end up with a lot of soft forms whether you want that or not. Anyway, that's my two bits. Thanks for stopping by my threads of late. Keep sculpting!

-B

tyree1
08-08-11, 11:51 AM
nimajneb, what you said about the forms being mush like and too soft is true. but thats the nature of sculpting software. knacki your first female can pass but the second one is very mannish. you may need to work on the differences between female and male faces

Knacki
08-09-11, 08:22 AM
@maciej Thank you very much. I am improving my render knowlodge more and more - which is very necessary. Your comment is a good sign for myself that I am on the correct way.

@nimajneb I really appreciate your critics. You are correct. Somehow it's my style and every time I try to work as expressive like i.e. your work, I am turning back soon to my soft forms. I like this more finished polished look and it has advantages for my other applications I am using those sculptures with.
I hope finding time for some anatomy studies during my vacations. Maybe this will turn out more structured.
Cartoon stuff is what I like since ages, I am glad you like them.

@tyree Thanks tyree1. I am not sure which woman you are talking about.
If you think this mermaid is too masculine, you are correct.
I copied a solid piece of socialism art, I guess. There are too famous sculptures of this mermaid in Warsaw.
One really nice and feminine in the centre and one anabolic version at the riverside :D

Do what you want with her. But be gentle and careful- she is a lady and a warrior ;)

Wow! Pretty cool.
My thread have never seen this nice render.

Ruin? Nonsense!
Just a few touches and now she is already maciej style.

Love it.

Do what you want with her. But be gentle and careful- she is a lady and a warrior ;)

I would but I'ma neanderthal, I grab damsels by hair and drag them to my cave. Haha! But you said it ("Do what you want")! Anyway thanks Knacki, I hope you're not that generous with your other half for your own sake. That would mean a lonely and an empty retirement. ;)

More mermaid fun. New hands, reworked scales and other features, surface texture. Zbrush noise added / render taken like before.

maciej - again this is a beautiful render.
With real fingers now!

I guess you have taken her completely over. So many details and so many overworks.
Hands, face, hair, fins, body. Nothing untouched.

Much nicer.

I am always happy seeing my thread up here but it would be O.K. for me if you would like to take it over to your thread.
Or a Co work thread? :D
Or keep it here.
Just a suggestion.

I love it.

Btw. ha ha ha - No, there is one woman I wouldn't give away ;)

Sorry for invading I shan't post anymore mermaids for the moment...maybe just one more special version for Polish-fans of Polish politics (bottom fishtail - top phallus with a fountain bursting out of the hole spraying around masses hah!). But you have to admit - I have the imagination (or perhaps a clear vision.)

:)

Anyhow, time to get my Santa ready so byes for now. Somebody must step forth to beat that cheater Michalis.

Thank you very much for your beautiful pics.
It was not invading, it is more one step further than my status.
I don't feel I am deserving this ;)

Looking forward to see your Santa!

Thank you very much, demmios.

To show every style I played around with sculptris, those two abstracts are missing in my thread. Those were shown during the legendary "sculptris Challenge No2." initialized by dreamz:

BlueInsect3.jpg
Tree of eternity
03TreeOfEternity.jpg

I only can advice to go through this abstract stuff. Never learned more about sculptris than this time. Free from any realistic approach.

These are really awesome.
