Hello everyone, im glad to be part of this all. I recently just downloaded the demo version of ZBrush off their main site. Here is my question.

So far I dont see any count down of days left or anything like that, so does it expire and if not, what is diff then the full version cause I would really love to use this program to do some artwork for my portfolio. Also does anyone know how much this program costs (Canadian or US dollars).

Thanks for your time and I hope to post up something soon. Im brand new to 3D art so it wont be spectacular thats for sure, but I have found this program to be much more easy on the brain then 3D Studio Max has been for me lol.

Thanks for your interest in ZBrush!

The demo will work for 30 days from the day you enter your password. There's no counter, though.

The commercial version will let you resize the canvas, work with more layers, save tools, import and export textures/alphas/tools, record ZScripts, etc. So there is a whole lot more power avaliable to you. It will also give you a free upgrade very soon to the next version which will have features beyond what are in the current demo.

The price of the commercial version is $399 US and you can purchase directly from www.ZBrush.com (http://www.zbrush.com) with immediate download.

30 days? Darn that puts a damper on things. I can't really afford the full version, but would love to use this on my own time. Looks like I got some work to do to learn it quickly before my time runs up.

Oh well, sounded to good to be ture lol.

Thanks

The major limitations as far as your questions are concerned are that you are limited to 640x480 picture output, and you can't save your tools, alphas, materials, etc. The latter is important because it creates a practical limitation on how advanced your pictures can get. Invaribly, a circumstance of some sort will cause you to close ZBrush, and since you can't save any custom tools (3D models), any tools you have created will be gone. If you are building a covered wagon, and you close the program, you will literally have to re-invent the wheel the next time you need a wagon or wagon-wheel. Same for custom materials.

There is a serial number that you are required to enter, and it expires every 30 days, however, Pixologic will give you another one if you request it, so this is not really a limitation. (EDIT: ... or maybe not!) :)

Ok with that being said, how many times can someone request a new serial number to keep the demo going? Obviously not forever but If i could get it for a good 2 months that would help me out a ton :)

Thanks

Given what Aurick just said, I don't know if you can anymore.

As far as I know, you can just go to Pixologic.com, click "Support", then look under "Help & Feedback" for the Demo password link, and get one every 30 days.

Hey, aurick made it quite clear: there's no counter. Meaning you can get a new password you just have to renew it every 30 days. :tu:

Ah, I see. Yes, then I was right originally when I said you just have to request a new one every month (on the web site).

Actually, there will be a limit on how many times the demo password can be renewed. The exact number of times has not yet been decided, however.

Obviously, we want to give people time to thoroughly evaluate ZBrush and make an informed purchasing decision. But the demo should not be considered to be a replacement or surrogate for the commercial version.

I agree, plus maybe it is just me but you cant save your progress can you? what ever is done must either be exported or your outa luck. So I would love to buy the retail version to wokr on some stuff.

Hey,
why not download the demo and try it? You can save your work, but only in document files. Can't export most things and can't save tools but you can work with them in one session and hopefully get everything together on the screen.

:)
