Working on the final render for my demo reel -- I need work, :-D

Going to retopologize it now. Then bring it into ZBrush.

Heh, nice and juicy. He looks top-heavy though, needs to spread his stance wider to avoid falling over. That's for posing of course, but it might be easier to sculpt the leg details as well if they're not so close to each other.

Any particular ideas for the hands, since you've left them with only two fingers each? Just a consequence of the quick sketchy nature of this model perhaps, or will there be some kind of semi-hand-like claw structure?

I look forward to the detail phase. Hope you'll be able to stretch your legs there with as many polygons as you like ;)

Add another two pairs of legs and you would have the spider boss from MI. or not :D Right now it looks like it might fall over. Use the mask and rotate tool to angle the legs outwards. Don't worry about distortions, you can smooth out just about anything.
;)

You have a good point there. I am also going to fix the silhouette a little bit more also. :-)

When I get into my retopo program I will retopo one finger, then copy it over and over again for the remaining 4 fingers. :-D

When you add the Frankenstein feature though, I'll do that inside Sculptris.

Yeah, you guys are both right about that.

Wonderful work! The head is very well done. I also like the contrast between the roundness of the top half, and the spindly legs. They look like lethal stabbing weapons. I don't know how he'd manage on soft ground, not very well I'd imagine, but great at picking up litter. :D

Lure him to soft ground.

Been working on small details, almost ready to do texturing. I made a small error on my basemesh that is making the UV's hard to do (the error is not splitting the hand in two with an edge loop, to make unwrapping easy), I added a loop, reimported the model into zbrush and model exploded when zbrush tried to transfer the details. :-(

So, I tried UV Master--not good. The UV's worked, but they are so ugly I would be afraid to show them. :-D

So, I am going to do a manual unwrap with the buggered mesh.

-- My Solution is to work on the level 2 subdivision for unwrapping --

Here is the UV Map--it isn't packed too tight, but I have to keep moving!

I'm really enjoying all of that texture work you did on the legs and lower body. Thanks, I started that today. I used 3 custom alphas with some Dragging and some Spray. Didn't take too long.

 Texture! Texture! Texture! Wonderful!!!!Thank you. Texturing is going to start tomorrow. I then plan on posing him and making a base for him to stand on for the turn around. :-D

:tu: wow SeanJM that is really coming along nicely. Great detail for non Zbrush and a great variation on a theme. Personally I wouldnt worry about purist Sculptris. As long as the project starts in Sculptris, it doesnt matter if it moves to Zbrush, C4d or any other program. The post belongs here in my humble opinion. A true 3d artist doesnt limit himself to exclusively one program. He takes full advantage of the tools in his toolbox to obtain the best possible results. If there arent any other tools then Thats the time to be a purist.

That being said, almost everything I personally have done lately has been in Sculptris and I own Zbrush 4. From now on my projects will start in Sculptris. Whether they make the trek to another program or not shouldnt matter.

Sry for the rant and once again a damn good job  :tu:

Sry for the rant and once again a damn good job  :tu:I agree 100% with you here. Almost no one I know uses 1 tool exclusively to achieve the best results. Each tool has it's strength. Sculptris is great for prototyping a Sculpt, Blender is good at Retopology, ZBrush is great for Sculpting / Texturing. Each tool has it's power. When Sculptris adds Retopo tools, I will probably drop blender from my early workflow.

And an update!

Seeing life being breathed into a model is a wonderful thing. A lot of time the beginning textures dont match the sculpt but it looks to me you are headed in the right direction:) The purplish tones fit!

Well that was a lot of fun! Great job how much Sculptris was involved before the retopo and import into ZBrush? Did it speed up the development of your critter? Now who does he go up against?

Now who does he go up against?Sculptris was involved in as far as the first post--so a rough shape of the idea. The next thing I model from Sculptris, I'll take it a bit further in there.

How Sculptris helped was that I had total artistic freedom in getting the idea
out there, I could Sculpt it, like for example in ZBrush; sculpting on a basemesh. It made it a bit easier to come up with the idea, but not faster. If we had auto retopo--then we'd be talking extreme speedup.
