As some of you may know I have been really struggling with modelling faces. I haven't posted any I have done for at least 4 months. But this one turned out not too bad so I thought I would try posting again.

The head, headress, and collar are all modelled out of one sphere. Her dress and decorations were modelled and added on seperate layers. The only things that aren't 100% my work are the jewels. These are imported .dxf tools from 3D Lapidary Gems & Jewels for computer artists. (http://www.3dlapidary.com/Home.htm)
I added colour and material but no transparency.

I really hope to get some comments on this one.

Thanks in advance for taking a look!

I love the rich choice of purple you chose for this image. You did a geat job on the head dress as well. All of this plus those splendid jewels helped out alot with her head. I would say as a 1.2.1 that it just takes practice to get the head looking how you want. I am by no means an expert, but a recent tip that I was given that helped me out tremendously was to stop using my zadd and zsub when in edit mode. Instead I now use the move tool when in edit mode to push and pull on the sphere for my heads. Think of the sphere as you might with a hunk of clay and push and pull the ridges, eye sockets etc on the model. It will give a much smoother effect truly...Eyes I put on a separate layer ...Layers are super important when doing a head especially with props...I also was given a tip about ears...Ears are a pain to model off of the main head model. so I took the advice of mentat and slosh and modeled the ears our of a torus aka doughnut tool..Iuse that ear model all the time..and you can alter it each time for each model you use it on..and instead of modeling two of them, I model one, snapshot it in place and while still in my edit mode I go into the deformations pallette and mirror the image..thus giving me a right ear and a left ear and move the new ear into place....One of the advantages of doing eyes on a separate layer is that you can paint all around the eye without affecting the eye itself once you have it into place, simply by switching your active layer. I also rarely paint with anything other than RGB selected, zadd off and switch stokes, colors, alphas while painting like this on the bulk of the model. much more smoother results. hmmmmm well, this is still a very nice image overall. I just thought I might throw those tips in there for you since you said you had trouble with the heads..If you would ever like a script for how I do heads, just drop me a line at catfishmn@aol.com and I will gladly whip up a head model script for ya. That is if you want something like that. I am sure Mentat, Southerns, Slosh, Stevie or Ken or our good ole buddy Grub could give alot more tips on this better than I can...Cant wait to see what you do for your next pic.
Kind Regards,
Ron :tu:

Very nice image, with plenty of colour. The only gem stones I can afford, are polygon ones. :tu: :tu: :tu:
