I am getting really frustrated trying to work with fog. I simply can't get it where I want it or the strengths I want. I am looking for a ptchy type fog that surrounds the bottom of several images. Sort of like a rising ground fog. I have tried the alpha method and it isn't giving me what I want because I haven't got the ability to move it around where I want it.
I wonder will the new improved 1.51 have more ability to control fog??
Any and all suggestions are gratefully welcomed!!

Fog can take some experimentation to get right. The two most important things to set are the two depth sliders. This is the main way to move fog around. After doing this, I usually find that changing the graph also helps get it right. Alphas then can get you that patchy look, and at the same time keep it at the bottom. (You'll probably need to create your own alpha, of course. :) )

Ken B did a tut on controlling fog a while back which is useful, here's the link, hope it helps.

There are two sets of controls that give you control over the fog in a 3D space.
The fog alpha is half the battle, controlling where the fog appears across the XY plane. Any place that is solid black won't get ANY fog, regardless of depth.
The Fog Curve graph controls the fog based on depth. Adjusting this graph can create fog that is most intense up close and less in the distance. Or it can create fog that is weak close up and in the distance both, but strong in bands in between.
Between the alpha and the graph, you get control over the entire 3D space.

Thanks guys I thought I had played with all the different fog controls and nothing seemed to happen like I wanted. Perhaps I need to be more persistent. Anyhow that tutorial helped give me some ideas Thanks.
I found this method very helpful. Create a
long shape with a grid on it so you can
see how deep the fog goes etc. Create a
vertical one as well.I still find it very
tricky but I hope this helps http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1036668211ddr.jpg
By the way, did you know that many sliders (including the Fog Depth 1 and Depth 2) can easily be set by clicking on the slider and then dragging out onto the canvas? Your cursor becomes a targeting icon, and when you release the mouse the slider is set to the value of the pixols where you release it.
In this way, you can set the Depth 1 slider by dragging to a point close to the front of the scene and the Depth 2 slider to a point at the back.
This same approach works with color selection, material selection, local light placements, etc...

No I never knew that! Very interesting I shall have to try it with both fog and lights as I never seem to get the lights exactly where I want them either!
Thanks
