The big flashy new stuff is cool and all but it is the little things that will make me happy....

-Marquee, Lasso and Circle strokes working with symmetry for hiding, masking and slicing

Thank you, finally!

Others little ones I particularly enjoy:

-Deformations are now in real-time when moving the sliders, giving you live feedback.
-Contact support for SubTools: deform multiple SubTools while maintaining your defined contact points between them
-Elasticity settings to stretch your model without stretching the topology.
-Move Elastic, Move Topo, Move Parts: Stretch and deform with no constraints

Tomorrow's headline on CNN: ZBrush Breaks Internet

Seriously though, it's just a matter of being patient. The problem isn't your browser; it's that word got out around the world about the feature pages in an incredibly short time. Everyone is trying to view them right now. :)

Tomorrow's headline on CNN: ZBrush Breaks Internet

Seriously though, it's just a matter of being patient. The problem isn't your browser; it's that word got out around the world about the feature pages in an incredibly short time. Everyone is trying to view them right now. :)

Haha! I figured as much. I'm just like everyone else hunched over my keyboard refreshing the screen every minute hoping to catch a glimpse of the greatness to come. Patience was never a strong suit of mine. But darn it! I'll wait until the wee hours of the morning if I have to!

Thank you, jramauri!

Just watched the shadowbox and clipping brush vids. I think this may very well be the first version of Zbrush that actually lives up to its promise of hardsurfaces and an all Zbrush modeling workflow. Hopefully the topology tools are more reliable now to support that idea.

I can't get this program soon enough.

I have three questions:

1. Is there more accurate lighting and a better real-time render (while working)? That is my number one request.

2. Has layers been taken to the next step? I was hoping for groups and mainly the ability to merge different layers, maybe the ability to easily save masks in layers.

3. Surely this is full 64 bit isn't it??? 32 bit would be like putting wooden wheels on a Ferrari.

My senior's brains simply won't manage all the new innovations. It is simply too much to absorb.

Now I will have to go to the health store and feed up on brain food (Omega 3 and zinc etc) to be able to use the program. I of course will send Pixologic the bill for the cost of the nutrients ;)

Thank you. THANK YOU. THANK YOU PIXOLOGIC.

Mac version appears to be 32-bit - there is no option to open in 32-bit mode when I do a "Get Info" on the application, so I don't think there's any way to interpret that other than "it's not 64-bit".

Also, on my i7 iMac w/ATI Radeon 4850, the graphics appear pretty messed-up - when ZB loads, if I start drawing in the workspace, I just get a network of overlapping boxes, not the basic sphere tool from earlier versions (which worked correctly in 3.12 and 3.2). I haven't done much of anything with ZB for ages, and I haven't poked around at all to see if there is a setting I'm missing, but it doesn't look right at the moment.

Nothings broken... it just starts you on the Simple Brush, which is a 2.5D brush, so you are just drawing on the canvas. You need to load a tool to start sculpting.

Yeah, I knew that, but the simple brush isn't working properly (sorry for calling it a sphere brush in the earlier post - it's been a while!). In earlier versions, it would create a blobby, rounded 2.5D shape on the canvas, but with ZB4, it's drawing a bunch of boxes instead. Sculpting does work properly after I load tool.

I know I should just wait for my download to find out for myself, but I'm just so curious... the mannequin videos show that the mannequins are actually zifs (zspheres), yet they have that smoothed out mannequin look with the squared off heads. I wonder if this will be the new look for zif models? If so, I like it. For some reason, the whole zif armature look was difficult for me to wrap my head around. Too many spheres. I kind of like the zifs looking like ball joints and the in-betweeners looking smooth.

Probably just a special thing for the mannequins, but I hope not.

I got it installed on my Mac and activated but I thought I'd share my problems in case they could help anyone else. I had three problems after installing ZB4.

1) on boot, it gave me an error about being out of virtual memory.
2) the familiar one that others have posted about how the email function on the activation site isn't working quite right and you have to go back and try over and over until the activation key shows up on screen and is emailed to you.
3) even when I did get an activation code, it kept saying that it failed to activate.

problem 2 i have no idea.. except to do what others have suggested.
However, on the others, I realized something. The account I was logged into on my Mac was set up to not be an administrator account (per the suggestion of an IT friend of mine who suggests that best practice is not leave your baby naked in the desert by leaving administrator access open to the world) so it did not have admin access. It occurred to me that perhaps the registration file was not ABLE to be written. So I changed my account to Admin access and then both problems 1 and 3 dissappeared and I was able to use ZB 4!

It's a bandaid, but one I'm willing to use until a better solution can be found. Is there a way to give ZBrush the admin access it needs but leave all the others as non admin access? Just wondering if anyone else out there who is way more versed in the inner workings of Mac can help me there?

Hope this is helpful to someone!

This is what I get in the area where the serial number must be displayed...

Hi everybody !
I was sooooo happy to get my ZB4 upgrade info email this morning...
I clicked the link, filled in the form, got my cleverbridge number, and a "delivery issue" message. Does someone get the same ?

I got the same thing....I was so smiling till I saw that! And that it may take up to two days to resolve. :(

So the Fiber isn't really talked about or shown or did I miss something?
God I wish ZB was fully 64 bit maybe next time ehh?
You bring up a good point about the Fiber stuff. I haven't seen anything about it in the announcement, nor the stuff about making hair easier. Anyone have any info on it that has gotten ZB4 already?

Congratulations on your 10th anniversary Pixologic! And job well done on making the release date!

Today feels a bit like being a kid on Christmas day opening up your presents. :)
(Except that I've got to go to work now instead of getting to play with my new toys). :(

I Keep getting:

"The email address provided does not match with the serial key provided at the time of purchase. Please try again."

They do match.

Whats the trick to get this working? I've been pressing 'Back' then pressing 'Start Activation' again, but it just keeps giving me the same error.

2) the familiar one that others have posted about how the email function on the activation site isn't working quite right and you have to go back and try over and over until the activation key shows up on screen and is emailed to you.

Do you mean keep pressing 'Back' then 'Start Activation' or re-launching ZBrush and doing the whole thing?

I've tried both methods numerous times and it keeps telling me my email/serial do not match (even though they do match).

so i still didn't get my invite so i'm searing my retinas with the demo videos....

my gosh.... just stunning.

the clip brushes are a super super nice and logical extension of the FLATTEN brushes and the algorithm that's allowing polys to collapse while not creating ugly artifacts and interpenetrations.

also, i gotta say that the move elastic brush is Huuuuuuge and probably a big reason for the sculptris acquisition? can you imagine that in the future, the move elastic brush not only redistributes polygon density but also intelligently subdivides as it goes while maintaining the basic current shape? oo la la....

anyhoo, i am happy to wait to receive my upgrade download notice... thanks for these awesome vids to tide me over in the meantime.

jin

p.s. first thing i'm going to try to do when i download though is a RIDONCULOUS-long pull with the move elastic brush... just to see what'll happen. i totally don't expect it to be miraculously unbreakable (and of course, it deserves no demerits for not being invincible) but because the breaking point isn't demonstrated in the vids, i just gotta see it for myself. : )

Double check the email that was sent to you.

And yes, I FINALLY got it to work.

Keep hitting Back and Send Another Request.

If you get email doesn't match is because you are not sending inputting the one registered them. Just click in your addy to see which one is right.

I'm really excited about the animation features in ZB4. For my uses, it's much easier and far preferable to be able to export animated image sequences directly out of ZBrush, rather than go through another app like 3DS Max or Cinema4D. One issue I've had in all previous versions was the inability of ZBrush to export as PNG with a transparent background.

So that's my question: can ZB4 export an image as a PNG with transparent background now?

Hey Everybody!

Woke up this morning to see the ZBrush4 Mac email in my inbox. It was very much like waking up X-mas morning. Thanks Pixologic!

It down loaded in 2 minutes at most. Installed super easy just like I expect on a Mac. I too had resend my registration to get an activation code. It only took about 12 tries. At first opening, Z ran like a stalling engine. Lightbox didn't respond when I double-clicked for a cube. I managed to get a cube drawn on the canvas from the Tools palette but it was super jumpy. So I restarted Z and it runs nicely. I'm on a 2Ghz Core2 iMac with 3GB of ram. Lightbox worked this time and I jammed up the res on a sphere to 6.5 million polys. It sculpted well and was using about 1gb of my system ram. Sadly it's not 64-bit. Activity Monitor will tell you if it is or not. From there, I dove into the documentation and found out how to get shadowbox running. It's freaking awesome. Works way better than I had expected it to.

That's all I've explored so far. The documentation looks great.

Thanks again Pixologic. Happy Anniversary!

Well, I was going to ask if anyone else got the same - but I see it's not just me....

"There has been a problem while processing your delivery. We are already working on this technical issue and may be waiting for information from the software publisher, which may cause short delay. At the latest, this should be solved within 1-2 workdays, although it is generally much less. We will contact you immediately via e-mail upon resolving the issue and apologize for any inconvenience."

Not complaining....... Patiently waiting........
At least I got the email sooner than I expected. Not that it did me any good.

Are all of the plugins installed by default with the Z4 installer or do we have to go and download them from the download center?

The plugins should be downloaded from the Download Center (http://www.pixologic.com/zbrush/downloadcenter/zplugins/) and installed separately.

It's a new material. There was a fibers material in early versions of ZBrush - this is an enhanced version of that which creates the fibers during a Best Preview Render.
Thanks for the information. I am new to 3.2 and only played around with the demo. I baught v4 just before Aug 9 am still wanting for my Email. :)

BitTorrent would have been a great idea. Luxology uses BitTorrent every time there is an update, works like a charm. If you can relax for a bit you will be much better off. Zbrushes upgrades have always been a horror show, always something messed up when it comes time to upgrade. I'm not sure why they can upgrade the upgrade system.

I'm sure they are doing the best they can, keep your stress level low and you will add years to your life:)

Everything is going smoothly for most people, but when a problem kicks in it doesn't take long for it to seem huge. The issues that we've been seeing have all been caused by the fact that the servers are under massive stress.

If you receive an error when attempting to redeem your upgrade link or when trying to activate, please do not get worried. Just try again 5 to 15 minutes later. It will eventually go through.

Please DO NOT keep pressing your browser's refresh/reload button. The more people who do that, the harder it is for the server to catch up and the problem builds until we have to restart the servers. That only compounds the problems rather than things getting better.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info, aurick. Not surprising the servers might be just a tad overloaded during a huge release like this.

The info I got was that I would be 'contacted by email' after the problem was resolved, so I'll just wait, rather than keep trying and make things worse for others, right?

I don't see the world coming to an end over this any time soon.

Yes. It sounds like you are one of the people who was able to upgrade fine through the Cleverbridge system, but when their server contacted ours to get a serial number for you our server was overloaded. The Cleverbridge server tries again periodically, then sends your email to you once it gets a serial number successfully.

In your situation, there's nothing to do but wait.

@ Aurick

Is there any news on the "The email address provided does not match with the serial key provided at the time of purchase" error?

http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=92003

This appears to be a different error than most are getting and I have had this problem during the previous upgrade too (back then a support guy said he had to manually enter my details due to a glitch).

If you could look into this I would be most grateful as I have had no response from a support ticket or the support forums.

Thank you.

I am excitedly watching the videos this morning, and something came to my mind.

I have a work license, which will be an upgrade, and I preordered v4 for myself so I have a license not linked to work.

I wonder if the availability for both will be the same? I'm only curious because maybe I am sitting here and could have downloaded my preordered one already. I better go and check my email!yay email has come - ready to get stuck in now! :D Thanks pixo - hope your servers are holding up! Got it all, and downloading the software! (Boy, it's taking a long time, but I guess it'll be worth the wait, eh?) Guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow to really play with it. Finishing a "rough" in Sculptris right now. I'll retopo it tonight and see if I can get the high res detail in the new topology tomorrow. Put Zbrush 4 through its paces.

There seems to be a problem with the GoZ Scripts for Maya. When I click on the GoZ button in Maya a script "GoZBrushFromMaya.mel" is being called but itīs not where itīs supposed to be. I had to localize it on my harddisk and changed the path in the GoZ button command in the Maya shelf...

No itīs running fine and Iīm able to switch back and forth between Maya and ZBrush 4.

zmapper isn't really necessary anymore man, not for a while now. Despite the cool looking interface of zmapper, it was actually a lot more complicated than the way its done since 3.5
Actually, now that we have GoZ and the multimap exporter, I think it's even easier now.

yeah, they're a little weird, but we'll get used to them i guess. I've noticed a little bug– when i try to hide my model (ctrl+shift) while working on a layer the polypaint gets all messed up (at least for all other layers except the one I am painting). That's really not a good way to do it. There may be some old files left over still. The best thing to do is to delete GoZ from Maya, close Maya and then also delete your Users\Shared\Pixologic folder. (The exact path depends on your OS.)

Next, launch ZBrush and go to the Preferences palette. In the GoZ section there are options for reinstalling GoZ and setting up the path to Maya again. This is covered by the PDF included in your Documentation folder. This will create the Shared Pixologic folder again and reinstall the Maya-side plugin. You should then be able to run GoZ fine.

The PDF in the Documentation folder explains how to have ZBrush reinstall the GoZ components in Maya. It has a very good section on GoZ.

Now has anyone tried to see if the bug in the StandardSculpt brush is gone? The dots when you fast stroke on a mesh, that bug.

That's not a bug. It's a design feature, meant to help you create randomness in your organic sculpts without having to change settings. The faster you move the cursor, the more spaced out the dots that make up every brush stroke will be. For smooth strokes, draw more slowly. For super smooth strokes, activate Lazy Mouse.

is any other Mac OS X (10.6) user having trouble with z4 crashing a lot? I've been using it for 3 hours and had at least half a dozen crashes... particularily when using the newer features (polypaint layers, timeline and spotlight).
Maybe it's just me and my comp being too old, except it really isnt that old (just over two years). it's a 2.4 Ghz core 2 duo, 2 gigs RAM with 256mb ATI radeon HD2600, 24" imac.
Besides, it sure didnt crash that much with zbrush 3.2
Are windows users getting this too?
