I've been running it on my MacBook Pro under Windows with Bootcamp. Works pretty well.

But I also wonder though if it will be available for Mac at some point. *Crossing fingers*

Is there any official word from from Pixologic on Mac version?

Sculptris will run under wine. but some hotkeys and shaders while painting won't work.

Those few (but important) issues aside, I have it running on my MacBookPro in OSX and it runs very, very smoothly.

Sadly there have been no word from either Pixologic or Dr.Petter about a native OSX version. However, I can't imagine Pixologic not supporting the furture versions of Sculptris for the Mac.

WTF is wine? I'm also one of the people who stays away of installing windows on my iMac.... and don't have a clue about fiddling with codes. All I wish for is a native Sculptris for Mac. So, is there any official word from Pixologic about their plans?

P.S. Is it true that "material painting" is not working under wine (whatever wine is).
Is it buggy?

Hi there!

I have build up a Sculptris-App for Mac which is based on Wine! You can find it here:

http://www.digitalworks.at/files/Sculptris_a5.dmg

The only thing you have to do, is to make sure to have the latest X11 installed (especially if you are runnning MacOS X 10.5!!)

Than just download, double click dmg, drag to your favorite place and run it! ... No need of confusing wine installation!

Due to wine the bump mapping doesn't work in paint mode yet ... and the shortcuts are different to the original one:

Working shortcuts:
rotation = command+left mouse
zooming = command+Ctrl+left mouse / Mouse wheel
panning = command + right mouse
UNDO = command+Ctrl+Z
tool settings = command+Ctrl+space
smoothing = Shift + left mouse

If Sculptris freezes (mostly due to a wrong shortcut) just click to an other window (like Finder) and than go back and it should work again!

Have fun!!

Leto

PS: You use this at your full own risk!!
PPS: Due to the fact, that the new download link at the pixo site didn't work for me at all, I've used the version 1.0.2 of Dr. Petter to create the app.
PPPS: If Pixologic don't want me to host this "app" on my server, just give me a hint and I will delete it immediately!!

LetoAtrell I have given your link to several Mac friends. I am a PC user but you rock. It's a Good thing you have done. I really hope Pixilogic will continue to let Mac users download this until they come up with a Mac Alpha 5 version. :)

BUMP!

Hey, great job! Thanks for that. Unfourtunatly I have problems using it on the small Cintiq... I can not use the whole screen. If I try to lower the height of the window, the UI is moving in the other direction. Can I configure the screensize manually? Maybe itīs just a little entry somewhere...I hope ;)
Thanks again
Rolf

Yeah you can config that manually! ... got to:

/Users/YOURUSER/Library/Application Support/Wine/prefixes/Sculptris_a5/drive_c/winebottler

Than open up config.txt

Change the values
window_width 1280
window_height 800
window_maximized 0

Save!

That should fit the 12" Cintiq

unfourtunatly I was a little to excited I think... Everytime I hit no matter what key Sculptris freezes. I tried different system-languages but nothing helps. What is the language on your macs? Or is there maybe some other thing I`m missing?
thank`s

Hi there!

Due to wine there is a problem with the keymapping!

Working shortcuts:
rotation = command+left mouse
zooming = command+Ctrl+left mouse / Mouse wheel
panning = command + right mouse
UNDO = command+Ctrl+Z
tool settings = command+Ctrl+space
smoothing = Shift + left mouse

Anything else ends up in freezing sculptris! ... but you can bring it back to work when clicking in an other window (like finder) and than go back to sculptris!

Hope that helps

Leto

It depends if your mac is Intel based, or PowerPC based. If it's Intel based the app posted should work with OS X 10.4, if not you could try one of the earlier builds of wine here (http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/wine/). If your mac has a PowerPC processor i think you're out of luck. there was an effort a while back to integrate an x86 emulator into Darwine, but i don't think it even came to fruition. I could be wrong though. you could try the PowerPC build of darwine here (http://darwine.sourceforge.net/download.php). I don't have a PowerPC mac anymore though so i can't test it to be sure.

I downloaded the Sculptris from the link on the previous page but each time I try to run it I get an error that says something about new graphics drivers possibly helping or that it is a problem with wine. Any thoughts or advice?
Also I have no real idea as to what wine is exactly.

I would like to say that, because Pixologic is now accepting beta testers for the next version of Sculptris, and they are asking for both PC and Mac users, it is safe to say that there is a Mac version coming in the next release.

Sculptris for the mac, even though its set back to OS X 10.5 in the .plist file, the unix file in terminal reports a bad call for cpu, meaning it has to be a mac with intel not, as I have a PowerPC cpu. well ****youverymuch. Would it be such a load to just compile it for the PpC chip? I mean, I'll bet the doc would have, if these a-holes hadn't bought him out.
I mean f*8k the marketeers!

Did you read the requirements page (http://www.pixologic.com/sculptris/requirements/)? It clearly states Core 2 Duo and above. This means the PowerPC is not supported.

Apple discontinued the PowerPC platform in 2005. That's six years ago now. There simply comes a time when developers can no longer support discontinued hardware -- no matter how much they might like to. And it's certainly not reasonable to expect a program to support hardware that was discontinued before the software was even created!

I got alpha 5 to run under Wine. May have to study up to configure keyboard shortcuts, gotta be somthin like joystick to mouse for OSX, Sculptris isn't the only software Wine was made for. And I'm still stuck with my crappy lappy -- 2004 Compaq Presario,AMD Sempron 2800, ATI 128mb shared memory, XP 32bit and its runnin Great here! Chip here only 1.6G, had to use Mobility Modder to get the GFX Drivers.

Greetings

I have trouble installing SCULPTRIS on my mac pro 2009 dual Quad Core 2,26ghz, 14GB Ram, 4 Tb, MacOSX 10.6.8

Says:
"The installer encounter an error that caused the instalation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."

Where is the support page for SCULPTRIS?
