A silly alien dude. I meant it to be whimsical, but the eyelid area, with its surrounding hairs, ended up looking a little obscene. Now, the shape of the head and mouth take on a whole new meaning to me.

Pretty straightforward construction. The one thing I did do differently was the eye. Instead of painting on a sphere, I made 2 spheres. One, a slight concave area was created where the iris would be. This was painted with the proper colors. The other sphere had a bulge representing the corneal bulge found on our eyes. The first (with basic material), or inner eye as I called it was positioned and marked. On a new layer, the second sphere (outer eye) was placed using the marker (toy plastic material). It was sized slightly bigger. Then, using the clone tool in layer mode, and just RGB, the inner eye colors were brought through. (this is the faking transparency trick from Pixolator) The plus of this technique is that the inner and outer eye would catch the light a little differently than if it was just painted on the surface of a sphere, thus giving a little more depth. It's subtle, but I like the results.

brilliant, Ken!

and tell me, does California have many sightings? :)

seriously, I'm a friend to Mrs Viau, a professor at your University over there, who is very actively interested in alien life forms (making of hypothetical models) and societies.

and then, it's your photographs of the critters :) the truth is over there?

that is a nice model, the texturing is reminiciant of texturing used in the superman lovers film clip, yours is better though cause its in z brush, the eye is fantastic aswell, makes me think that if you could poke it with a stick, it would make a squelchy noise. :) :b3:

:D He's still whimsical, although I do see what you mean about the eye and mouth. Makes me think of some of Christos' work in that respect. ;)

Very clever technique for the eye, too. I have a hunch we'll even be seeing Glen adopting that technique soon!

Fantastic as always MrB.
I wonder what Sigmund Freud would make of that extended eye?
I love that little ooh phenome the characters making with his pouting mouth.
Superb! :)

OMG! Ken you are my hero. This is great! Could you just distill your talent and put it in a bottle? Then I can buy a 6 pack and be done with it!

**This is my fourth visit to this thread. The eye technique is groundbreaking for me. I did some experiments my self and now have 2 templateZTLs. The difference between the standard sphere and your dualshpere is night and day! Thanks Ken!!**

Hi Ken,
the image, overall, is, yes suggestive. I wouldn't call it obscene at all. Simply because that whimsical aspect is well maintained.
Wonderful texture, and a fantastic eye. Interesting that you posted this; over the past week or so I've been thinking of doing the same thing, with regard to modelling eyes.

thnx for the tips....I am putting them in my special notes section for sure....the image was very kewl and reminded me of a movie that I saw a long time ago...wasnt the Goonies but was about that same time frame and genre...."about three boys that take and make a spaceship of sorts out of a Tilt A Whirl cart and go to some mother ship...well the aliens on that ship remind me of yours here....reat job and thnx

If anybody does more experimenting with the eye (or any other)technique, be sure and post the results.

Almost missed this one!

Ken you've been surprising me with your ideas! (simple yet so cool!!!)
Given the wide arsenal of tools available in ZBrush., we usually tend to think about creating complex compositions. Your simple yet tastefully done pieces truly shows that it's all about "brilliant" concepts that make a good piece!

well for some reason the Pic are Not showing up http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=002014
all i did is use the method of making a eye instead of the color FIRST i used it to z sub and draw the sphere it self to make the eye Poof out at you Then Colored it
