my first experiment with sculptris, really hope zbrush incorporates the dynamic mesh subdivision, but not the whole application.. sculptris is much too nice to be absorbed entirely :D

Lol, very nice! I like his expression, and the bright colors.

I too hope that Zbrush picks up the dynamic tessellation, though only for the sculpting stage before detailing (after Zspheres). Once you need to add millions of skin pores, "unified" resolution > dynamic resolution IMO... for now at least. Who knows what sort of things they'll come up with. I imagine Sculptris's technology would adapt nicely to hardware tessellation or OpenCL/CUDA environments. Maybe Tessellation will be merged with ZSketch (not Zshperes) somehow (or possibly voxels), idk, but i trust the guys up top to figure it out. They've done a great job so far.

There are some other little things i hope Zbrush picks up on as well, like how Sculptris (and Mudbox actually) begin to dolly the camera the closer your cursor is to the edge of the canvas, feels much more natural than pressing and releasing shift.
I could use a hotkey editor too. It wasn't till i used Sculptris that i realized pressing a strategically placed hotkey to access Draw/Crease/Inflate/etc actually makes me more creative... or rather, doesn't hinder my creativity as much as searching for an icon does.
Also, i hate having to switch rotation controls in ZB cause RightMouse defaults to moving the last selected Zsphere instead of rotating the camera (wouldn't be so bad if i wasn't so use to zooming with Ctrl-RM).

just my thoughts. Cheers.

PS. Pixologic, if you're reading this, please know that i fully appreciate the effort y'all put into Zbrush, and i'm not complaining about anything. It's fully out of excitement for the future of Zbrush that i'm voicing what is intended as constructive criticism.
Not that y'all are probably even reading... or that you care too much ;)

The first character is amusing, makes me smile to look at it and I like the color. The second one is pretty creepy looking; a very nice model but not something I'd like to have sitting on my shoulder.

Wow the second one looks so alive!! ... It looks as if he would open his eyes at any moment great!

I think zbrush could learn a lot from sculptris, zbrush seems to over-complicate the whole process

having to manually subdivide a mesh just seems backwards after playing around with sculptris

squidinc,

What is your workflow?
Did you exported the textures and applied it in any other 3d program or screen capture and post work in Photoshop? Could you explain more your workflow for the squid? Please.

Love the water squid m8. Good work.

Love the water squid m8. Good work.

modelled and textured in sculptris, then exported the model and texture and rendered in Cinema 4D. The glowing parts and colour correction were done with photoshop elements

Thank you for explaining that m8. Looking forward to see your next work.

i really like the second one. The brighter lighting brings out the surface detail. Great stuff, i think that's my favorite of yours so far.
I think it's a bit too symmetrical. Maybe that's what you where intending, but i really think this would shine with a neck/shoulders and a bit of asymmetry. That's my only crit though, great stuff and good rendering.

That's really cool, love all the texture. Did you paint that with Sculptris? if so, how did you get the bump and texture to match up?

wow dude, amazing stuff, love the last one, how much texture work do u do outside sculptris? or normal/hightmapping n such, im asking cause i have problems getting those micro details on to a model in sculptris, but you really pulled it of on that dragon.

all the modelling and texture creation was done inside sculptris, the texture was used as the bump, colour and specular inside C4D

the model itself is pretty basic, I'll post a screen grab later :)

cool, so all that scale detail is just texture maps? and nothing actually sculpted?

I need to try the colot stuff out in Sculptris.
I find myself watching this tutorial videos quite a bit so I can learn it.

went a little further with it, got to a point where I'm starting to miss zspheres and subtool management, think I'll stop this one where it's at :)

great character additions, squidinc. really cool stuff, and always very clean sculpting.
I miss some basic sub-tool option, like duplicate, but that's done easily enough inside maya, and with the 'H'+LM to isolate meshes inside sculptris, it's not that big of a deal. I'm sure we'll have those types of things.... sometime ;)
