working on grasping textures and emulating or trying to emulate the light burst effect in photoshop I have seen beeing used here...I did mine with the smudge brush and two shades of green...kinda worked I guess... EDITED/////Well SC you opened my eyes a bit more once again..the image sucks but it was just a test to begin with..that brush what just what I was wanting....thnx http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1013490763kik.jpg really lightened things up :) now the planed images in the back were supposed to be like that btw...was trying something different...and it worked.. :)

Hey C-Man...Check out the 'Shading Enhancer' brush! ;) Use it with regular brushes, Alphas, and with ZAdd on and off...Might give you a bit of a surprise what you come up with!
Here's a quicky:

Your experiment appears to have turned ot Ok Ron. Did you try StoneCutters suggestion on painting the flare. The reason why I pointed you to that program is that when you do a flare in that program you get a trail like the one shown in the image in question. I am in no way indicating that the effect could not be done with ZBrush. I just wanted to get that straight. I guess you can do anything in ZBrush if you have the time. I am certain that even Pix is not totally aware of all the things his program is capable of.

DeeVee, that 'tail' was done with one swipe of the blur brush after using the Shading Enhancer...All I did was dab in some colour, switch to S.E., then a swipe with the blur...Less than a minute to do. ;)

thnx guys..reedited the image...zbrush worked great...yeah I am sure that Pix deity gets suprised all the time by his creation...I overdid the brush in my test but it was just to see the different intensities and to see what they would produce...I can see this beign used for lightening effects, lasers, explosions, etc....very kewl stuff...and the learning curve continues... :) thnx again guys :tu:

Ron, if used delicately it also works for starbursts, lens flares, highlights....
You name it...Change brush sizes, intensitys, and you'll amaze yourself how versatile this tool is...
SC I think you have mis-understood me. The trail I was speaking of were the small progressively sized circles leading up to the flare. What you indicated is not what I was speaking of. That was easy. Something like the lighting shown in this image.

geez, Joe...I still don't understand...
All I meant to get across is that it was:
Fill layer with hue->Use simple brush, ZAdd off->Use Shading Enhancer->One swipe of blur...
That's all I was pointing out to Ron...
(And the problem I had understanding, came partly from the fact that the first time I looked at this, the image wasn't on your post...)
To do those 'circles' you would use a fairly sharp-edged Alpha with low RGB intensity...

geeez...that and the grabber tool the image remade itself a bit....well one more cig and its off to bed..grrrrrrr "but, mummy, I wanna stay up all night and zbrush....grumble grumble" http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1013492577xjg.jpg
OK, I guess I am just too much stressed out, and a bit touchy. You know we always strike out at those we care for the most. No problems, as they say in Jamaica

snicker..well that cig is gone but I have itme for one more...muhahahaha...yeah and the other kewl thing I learned with this is that you can make clouds...if you notice in the faint background...I took and painted blue with the scaly looking spherical instensity material on 3d planes..then grabbed that as an alpha and texture andpainted them about the screen...then took and did the shading enhancer brush around making the white flares/blotches...then I regrabbed a portion of that and made another texture/alpha and painted that about the screen...suddenly I realized that it was kinda looking like real mushroom clouds....I am saving this thread definitely for future use...thnx again guys....ok..now for the REALLY last cig of the night...wink wink... :D

whew that was close..lol.. great tip sc and wonderful images you guys..
Lens-flares huh?
This reminds me of a old ZAcademy lensflare tutorial by Kurisu.
Here's a updated version of it.
1 :: Draw your ZBrush picture
2 :: Create a new layer.
3 :: Draw a small sphere where you want the center of the flare to be.
4 :: With the BUMP brush pull out long bumps or "flares" from the small sphere 360 dregrees all the way around it.
5 :: Turn off all the layers except the one with your new flare shape.
6 :: Use the MRGB grabber tool with auto crop off and grab the whole screen.
7 :: In the Alpha palette click Make stencil.
8 :: Fit the Stencil to the screen with the HOR & VERT buttons (stencil palette)
9: Use the INTENSITY tool with a flat alpha to "paint" the white flares over your painting.
Note: You get better results by export your picture as a PSD or BMP and import it again and applling the stencil to the picture.
:b4: Sorry no pictures. I'm applying myself to the PDF in every spare moment. I'm slowly working my way around all that volunteers. (Please hang on if I haven't contacted you!)
:b4: WARNING ZSCRIPT IDEA! :b4:
Here's my idea for making a lensflare with zscripts. (I've got a spooky idea that Digits has already made something like this already)
1) Have a picker tool that pics the point in your picture in the X&Y but assigns it to the back of the canvas (5000)
2) Caculate from this point to the documents 0,0,0 point and draw an imaginary line between them and continue it to the front of the ZSpace (-5000)
3) Now there has to be .... say ... three or four rings that use this imaginary line as their at X, Y & Z center. These rings are the camera-lens flares DeeVee was talking about above. The rings have to be rendered as transparent ... somehow. I haven't thought this bit through ... need some sleep.
Take care
Upham :)
