View Full Version : Enough is enough!!!
Ok, here it is. My significant other had her toe nail removed Thursday.
It is about 5 feet from the couch to the computer. She has lost count of the number of times
I have said:" Come here. You have to see THIS!!!". The quality of work here used to be very good.
Somewhere recently it has gone to the next level. Problem is that the poor souls like us are getting
extremely intimidated. When you model a banana and someone thinks it's a street light.....
Now we are getting excellence in groups. One fantastic alien was good, now we have family shots.
I am sure some of you more confident and talented people have a few bummers lying around somewhere.
Could you submit one or two?
Or we could have a strictly amateur room, where if something is remotely good it is not allowed.
One more question, while I am out on the end of this limb and sawing away
Can prolonged and exhaustive use of zbrush lead to any of the following
1. overweight
2. loss of hair
3.computer complexion
4.desire to learn french
5.temptation to break things when the symmetry is off
Mr. Aurick had been discussing a contest in one of the other rooms
I hope you all will be entering. The banana modellers will be cheering you on.

I cry of laughing by reading your post!!! a banana for a reverberator :)) if you knew the number of times where I had similar adventures :) happy to have read you. you slackened me well :)
well say you whom you do not have to lower your work because there are the best than you, these the best were of the beginner them too. As a practitioner near the goods you are thorough upwards in your work of creation. by their councils, the inspiration which rises from their works.
since I post on this Forum I realize that I evolve positively whereas before, by seeing creations of some I was hesitant to publish mine.
The comments of everyone make it possible to advance.
in particulat :
Aurick for its warned councils, always present.
Pixo and its team for the software, and of course its creations.
Glen and Mentat the headlights of this forum which by their creations inspire all one here each one.
Ken B and its tutoriaux very profitable
Marcel of which I admire the work of painter.
Jaycephus and Mahlikus the Black both expert in research advanced in the Zbrush laboratory.
Ron Harris with its gallery of horror by which I never miss a post bus an easy way to be always taken in his creations.
Pilou the machine-gun with post (which the next week will reach its 5 ieme star) with always a quite advised link to direct you.
Sarabel the silencer, Bloodie floozi, etc etc... I excuse myself with those of which I was inspired and which I did not name.
finally, all that to say to you... that you made me well laugh!!
ps: French?? what for?? all precious informations here are in english !! it is you the lucky one !!
:)
Please do not be intimidated by the work of others on here. ALL of us had to start somewhere. I know that some of my first works were downright embarassing, and although his start was before my time I'd wager that even Southern has a few things he'd like to forget. ;) Hmm. Maybe that's the real reason his hard drive crashed some months ago...
But seriously, I'd like to encourage you to post your work no matter how unhappy you might be with it. Ask for a 1-2-1, which means that you're asking people to tell you what's good and what's bad (in relatively equal measures). You'll find that by getting such constructive feedback your skills will grow faster than by just lurking.
As for the rest, Pixologic assumes no liability for sleep deprivation, forgetting to eat, distraction leading to putting one's child out instead of the dog, mumbling, strange urges to doodle at inappropriate times, or any other odd behavior that might come about as a result of excessive ZBrushing. We do, however, encourage you to eat a hearty meal prior to launching the program, and to apologize in advance to your significant other for any neglect. :D

Hello, my name is Ron and I am an addict...of zbrush...I haven't slept in almost 3 years and I have massive computer butt syndrome... :D I eat anything that is close to the computer....I say this as my cat growls at me... Hair loss is due to malnutrition. If I had a portable potty seat I would not leave my desk. My skin has once again turned translucent. I think I am assimilating zmaterial properties like a chameleon. I smoke 3 packs of cigs a night while zbrushing....the over flowing ashtrays are testiment to this. And I talk about you all to my real world friends as if you all lived next door to me. My real world friends ask what part of the city you all live in but also question me about your names. I get questions like "What the hell is a Pixolator? Is Mentat7 a new toothpaste? Ron, why do your friends not have normal names? Is Zbrush a cookbook or can I get it at Wal-Mart?" And when they come over and want to watch me work I mutter something about Thank God for zscrips!!!! as I play them for my visitors and walk off to do my house work and leave them to view the scripts..... :)
Thanks for the funny thread....I did a major LOL too...
As far as stinker images...LOL...I do them daily and the sad part is I post them....and when I go back to look at the image or thread days later I am normally embarrassed by my images...but live and learn....
And I know I can dig up my early works....I was so proud of them...(back then) and I look at them on occasion now to measure if I am progressing any...and totally makes me wanna cry :)
Encouraging words over the past two years here have made me into the psychotic horror person I am today :) and I appreciate that...without that I am sure I would have disappeared a long time ago.
I would love to see some of Glen and Stevie Rae and Pixolators flops though that they would rather have hidden... :) That would be really inspirational. I would also love to see the very very first image created in zbrush if such a critter exists? The zbrush birth so to speak.
Fouad....you are way too kind to me...and your comments along with that of another user who PMed me have made my day!!!!!!

I hears ya, I feel like an idiot every time I post.
But if you are feeling down, just look at my posts and you can put up pics with confidence!
I hear you very well in what you are saying Ryter (hope I spelled that right).
A person does feel intimidated, especially when asking the easiest of questions, and you know that they are the basic of questions.
But like others, I have gone to my others that I have saved (before I lost them, I did not know that I lost them and could no longer edit when I saved them, now I do), but that means I do have a copy of my very first "Head". I know other Demo users have downloaded their works, so I will try, and you all can laugh until your teeth fall out, it will not bother me, as I know I have gotten better. And I also know that all of you have done sculpts like this on your first try in any 3D art :D
So my first head I have done will actually, and truely be the very first one I did, when I did not know anything at all. :D
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200311/user_image-1069689459jug.gif
I know I have gotten better, but in the beginning some of you may remember me saying "intuitive".
I dare anyone to really put their very first attempts at ZB, or even any attempt at 3D on this thread :D
Pixolator? Aurick? Southern? :D
Now ya cant get any worse then what I have posted :D
So do not let anyone intimidate you, you see, by doing this, I do not feel intimidated anymore, and I know when I post again, it will be sooooooo much better :D
Many Blessings

Yeah ! Kitty
I have refound it
First works of Zbrushers :) (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=011222)
And if you want see more : type "first attempt" in the "search" engine of Zbc
(up right corner side page) with "Subject Only" On (20 answers) :)
For your image, If you reduct it of 50% before posting (or use the AA format in Zbrush)your jaggies will disapear
Hope this help!
Pilou
Ps In another order of idea : Do you know that a
Photo Album of Zbrushers (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=5&t=000456) exist ?
Psss
You can find my first 3Dhead (http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=323686&Start=199&Artist=Frenchy%5FPilou&ByArtist=Yes) here :D
Kind words all.
To Kitty:
Thank you, hopefully this will encourage the others like myself to submit and more importantly to ask and to post.
One further note, have been reading about your similar frustrations and stubborness( like me). There is one thing worth pointing out. I had the privilege to see the sketch in graphite that you submitted awhile ago.
When you finally master this (you will ) you will be exceptional.
Many thanks to everyone who has helped me here.
One note,I have received a few private messages since this post.
I am not the only one reading and trying.
There are many people with the same problems as we have.
I want them to observe the support and assistance I have received and point out that everyone here has been kind and considerate.
Your turn!!!!!

This thread is very funny, very true, and... wait a sec...
HONEY? SENSUOUS? SINCE YOU WAS UP... OH, YOU WEREN'T UP? WELL, CAN YOU BRING ME A DRINK? AND A SANDWICH? TURKEY ON WHOLE WHEAT WITH MAYONAISSE... YOU DON'T HAVE TO GET OUT OF THE TUB RIGHT AWAY. WHAT? YOU'RE HAVING CONTRACTIONS? OK, I HAVE A TIMER ON MY COMPUTER... JUST SAY WHEN TO START... OH, YEAH... GIVE ME A PICKLE SPEAR, TOO... 'KAY? THANKS!!
Ok, I just want to encourage the other ZBC inhabitants to stay jacked in. You've just got to Free Your Mind. That, and download a few ZScript programs. I can't wait for that neural interface, Pixolator. This version or the next?

Hi jay
What a slice of life :D
You have the time of one's life :)
pilou
It is not all bleak.
For instance, I am probably one of the few
people who are not impatient for the new version. I don't know this one.
I still am at the stage where I get manically elated if what I make resembles anything at all
My most productive alien head was a model of my grandmother.
I also believe there is no such individual as Southern. He is a group of about 5 people who never sleep.
Frenchy and Fquad are really Harvard Professors.
Ron Harris paint peaceful landscapes under another name.
Aurick only reads every 5th post.

Well, it happend. Someone found out. I am actually a company comprising of 32 starving artists who all live in a shed near Birmingham. I am very much like Danielle Steel (But not in looks or money) who can write three novels a month and pretend that she is the only one doing the writing.
IMHO, post anything you like and take the feedback for what it is. I draw crap every day and as most artists would agree, I end up disliking almost every piece of work that I do. I'm a big believer in no pain, no gain. You really do need to put effort into art to get satisfaction out of it. I am inspired on a daily basis to try out new techniques or styles. I can remember Ken posting an Alien that he had made in Lightwave using a high res ZBrush model as his template (He did it for 3DArtist I think) and that pretty much single handedly made me go and learn Lightwave. This month I've been inspired by the Maya guys showing off their low res models that they have re-worked in ZB and now I want to get a hold of Maya. It's a nightmare!. I look at art everyday and wonder where I'm going wrong and why my work isn't this or isn't that or why my colors are always off. The other day, I thought about cutting of my ear off but thought better of it and cut the grass instead...what an artistic statement heh!
Strange that this post comes in the week that I have re-stocked my Oil, Acrylic, Brushes and Canvas supplies as I have been neglcting my traditional skills in favour of digital for far too long. I've even looked into re-enrolling in Life classes as my figure drawing is pants right now. You have to keep exercising those eye-ball muscles or your artistic skills get flabby.
Infact, I've been working on this next image for some months and was wondering if I could get some constructive critisism to help me move forward. It's a post modern piece called `LE BALLON VERT POINTU DE PLAISIR`.
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200311/user_image-1069704394gbw.jpg
Please bear in mind that I live in a country that awards the prestigious turner prize to a piece of art called `Light going on and off` and is pretty much what it says it is.
and by the way, fun thread guys.

HAHAHAHA! Great description of the artist's fugue! I myself wonder where the heck I am going with this and then I realize I am going nowhere cuz the art is not gasoline...nope. It is more like food for the soul. If ya want to go somewhere jump in your car and go. If you want artistic expression...feed your face. :D That's my 2 cents worth. Now I better exit stage left before that big hook comes out and snatches me..upp..aaaaaaaaaahhrg! :D

ok Mahlikus I see what modernity brings to us, your cheese seems to come from a cow doped with the hormones and genetically modified.
Thus hold this pure produced France of the cow's milk raised with quite fatty grass.

MTB: maybe "le saint bloc ..." I don't know, poetic anyway, although it does look kind of cheesy :D
rtyer: I know what you mean -- I have certainly been there -- in fact, I haven't advanced much, but that's because my attention is scattered over so many interests -- remember to just play and doodle while you are learning the controls of this massive starship -- cool images can be produced unintentionally ["your gift is to learn to receive"], although I understand that getting an image from within to without can be very satisfying

Glen OMG it's a materpiece!!! :D What materials did you use...how long did it take? Is that a high poly or low poly? Did you bake it before adding tentacles? How many layers did you use? Did you model that in another program and import it into Z? What light setting did you use? Did you save a zscript?Did you photo texture that? What alphas did you use? Did you make the alphas yourself? Is there any PS postwork involved? May I have a lock of your hair? What is your zodiac sign? :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

ok. I took the feedback onboard and spent the night re-orking the image. I felt that it lacked somthing in it's over all shape and the colours just wern't speaking to me. I used a different material and spent time mixing and matching the shade. I tried to use some of the environment settings to bring the background into the foreground and to give a real sense of Orthographic perspective. What` da ya tink....

Glen, how are we supposed to aspire to that? You've now raised the bar to the point where it is now in a low Earth orbit. How can we reach that? Stop working on that already....you can't improve perfection. You cruel, cruel man. :D
Glen, I thought about your art almost alnight (thanks bud) :D
Now, not knowing what Orthography really is, even tho I have looked it up in the dictionary ( :D), the only thing I can honestly say that I would add to indicate more perspective and depth, is that I would add a 3D ring (I would use ZADD, but ZSub would do maybe), and weave this ring aroung the tentacles as if you are braiding. So one has the ring woven behind it, and the next has it woven infront of it.
I do not know if this helps, I do not even know what the "contest" (forgot its name) is all about and what they are looking for. But for me I think your art work would be brought into a higher perspective with the 3D Ring.
Well, just a thought
