when selecting another tool you will lose your object BUT you can go back in the Tool Pallete and RE Bring it back were you left off to go back into edit Mode

ahh yes but then i am left with 2 objects on my screen
1 which i cant edit and one where i can. how do i delete the one object... i have dont a few of the newbie tutorials and stuff but there all on differnt things seperatly rather than interlinked. and there isnt a tutorial on what to do when you bugger up :)
one way is to create a new layer to work in before creating any complexly modeled object -- this would let you clear just that layer without disturbing the rest of the document, if needed
add a layer is correct^^^
Kaz pointed you in the right direction there with the New Users QuickLinks. "Why can't I edit my object anymore?" is the topic that really addresses this question.
When you are not in edit mode, Ctrl+Z will undo the last thing that you put on the canvas (in edit mode, it will undo the last thing that you did to the object).
Ctrl+N will also allow you to clear an entire layer.
As has been suggested, the best bet is to create each main object on a different layer. That way, if you goof, you can easily clear that layer without affecting anything else. :)
cool the layer thing has me sorted and i can now get on with modeling a full head :)
cheers for all your help :)
