View Full Version : My cloud
Hi folks,
I'm always inspired from this forum.
Unfortunately, I don't so active here.
I'd like to reply to excellent work shown here everytime, but I'm not good at English.
So I have to spend much time to do.
(Generally I need about one or two hours to write post message. Also need much time to read topics) :o
One day, DeeVee gave us the good ZScript tutorial about cloud.
Of course, I tried it soon and was very impressed.
(Now, One of my favorite things is cloud doodling. :))
When I tried his method, I also used blur brush to get any other expression of clouds
and I was aware accidentally strange blur brush behavior.
It looks blur brush affects to brightness if you set the RGB intensity high (Probably up to 50%).
If you'll use high intensity blur brush, the blured area will be turned darker and darker.
(I'm not sure this spec is intentional or not.)
I thought to use this behavior to paint clouds and I got a bit good result.
Here is a sample cloud.

I hope you like this!
Enjoy! :)

P.S. By the way, I spent about 1 and half hour to write this article :o :)

Beautiful Clouds! Thanks for the sharing your methods. :D :tu:
Very impressed Kaz-G. I am pleased that you found my script on clouds useful. Thanks for your script, another one to add to my collection. Keep up the experimenting, we all benifit from your efforts. :) :tu: :tu: :tu:
Excellent clouds! Nice and Fluffy!!

I figured out how to do your amazing clouds when you first posted the Brush Stocker. I looked at the brushes and colors you had selected in the picture and tried to duplicate your cloud. Now I am trying to figure out how to do 'sunset' clouds, with the colorful highlights on one side, and dark shades on the other side.
I am wondering if there is a way to use a High Dynamic Range in the creation of this type of cloud.
Thank you for the comments,
I'm always happy if stuff I made would be useful for you.
Jay, I'm thinking too that I'll try to doodle sunset cloud next.
If you'll get something you are pleased, please show it.
Thanks.

Hi Jay,
Wooo, looks great!!
I like space scene.
Actually, I'm making 3D space animation for my job and currently theme is 'space dust and cloud'.
Thanks.

Jay were you asking me about sunset clouds or Kaz-g? I do not want you to feel that I did not reply to your question, and since he refered to my script I was just wondering,. If you were asking me, there are several scripts on how I do sunset clouds in the various threads. I suggest you check out the
quicklinks, there is a lot on skies and clouds there.

My experiment with clouds turned into a mid-air explosion:

Here are some sunset clouds I was working on until ZBrush crashed. Using spraybrush with a small draw size is a repeatable crash on my system.

Here is a test of an approach for sunsets using geometry and colored lighting instead of painting:
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1035881802fjm.jpg
The lighting looks pretty good, if you can imagine the correct color of sky and a horizon, and a landscape...
:ex: (EDIT)
This is a deformed 3DPlane used as a 'cloud layer'. The idea I just had is to draw the cloud layer in 2D, white on black, capture it with the MRGB Grabber, and create a 3D cloud layer out of the Alpha. Then, with Perspective turned on, you could place as many copies of the 3D Alpha tool as you need to make the cloud layer in your scene.
(/EDIT)
Nice mid air explosion Jaycephus and interesting idea on using geometry+lighting for clouds. Would you then bake the geometry and modify it further from there?
Here is an explosion behind heavy cloud cover/sun behind heavy clouds. Done with Plane3D+flat color material, Spraybrush with Color variance set to 0, blur, spray, and finally the shadingenhancer was used.

:: Jay very nice cloud !! and héhéhé nice screen capture saving :D :D
I love the third pict !!
:: TV very nice explosion too !!
Interesting experiments. I think you guys should add these to jaundel's thread on skies and clouds, then most of the sky cloud techniques will be available in one place.
DeeVee,
Joe.

Yes, as soon as I more fully refine my technique I was going to do that. I think Kaz-g should put his clouds on there. It's amazing how quick and easy it is to do these clouds in ZBrush with the Spray Brush. I would hate to have to do this with real paint. :)
TVeyes: Your picture of the sun peeking over the clouds is great. I'm not sure I understand how you utilized geometry in your picture, though.
Fouad: Thanks, heh, heh.
I'm very surpirsed, many good artworks are posted here.
Very impressive!
Thanks Jay and TVeyes!
And thank you for your suggestion DeeVee.
I think too it is good idea to gather tips up on one place.
I'll re-post this tip to the thread.
