Yeah i understand that but it's in the name itself you know :D Don't get me wrong, it's not that i don't like ambient, but i just woke up from a 30 hour modeling session ready to tackle the next one. Rock n roll just helps me to keep going. (well ... and the money ;))

When I work and I am listening to music it has the same effect as driving while on the phone. It distracts and I do not really get into the flow and I am not really getting anything accomplished. But to doodle around and just play I have some floating ambient music.

When I'm "playing", I listen to all sorts of things. When I'm "working", I mean, really working, deliberately, on a job, I turn off all the music, the television, and unplug the internet.

It's amazing how much even the simple distraction of listening to music can leech your focus. If you're listening to music you really like, it competes for your attention...if you put on more neutral "mood" music it simply becomes noise after a while, and distracting in its own right. The simple act of rifling through tracks on a music player, or adjusting the volume, can derail your focus from where it was.

When I'm listening to music I like, I really want to have the freedom to focus on *it*, and enjoy it. When I'm working on something important...taking money for a job, I generally like to, if not *need to* reserve all my focus for it.

For the most part, I listen to music by artist's I admire and draw from. Maynard James Keenan, Trent Reznor, etc. They are creative powerhouses that have been churning out ideas and sounds for decades.I idolize people like that, because even in my short span of life I sometimes feel like the creative well has run dry, and I want to keep it going for as long as I can.

Depends what mood I'm in or what I'm making. If its a badass character with lots of guns I go heavy like Gojira, Scar Symmetry, etc
If its a calm creature like a fish or space whale then I go ambient. Deep Space is a great artist.

I aim for music that fits the style of whatever I'm making. When I was making a bunch of re-makes of Doom creatures, I made a playlist of Doom music, mostly from OCRemix.

I know exactly what you mean. I listened to the avatar soundtrack when making my avatar, and the same with Mass Effect 2 soundtrack from my Turian. It gets you into the feel of it, almost like a reminder of what theme your character is. feels so good
