View Full Version : Playing With Ed_The_Atom's "Skull" Tool . . .
'Afternoon . . . :)
Haven't had much time lately, to play with ZBrush, so today I was playing around with "Glow - 'New' Shadows - & Transparent Textures", on Ed_The_Atom's "Skull" tool. ;)
Thanks for the tool Mr. Atom, I'm sure I could have done something much better for your model, but at this point I'm just playing around with version 1.23. :o Hope you forgive me??? :(
Have a good one & I'll see'ya later . . . Mark.

ola, Kruzr! :D
me likes that :tu: :tu: :tu: enlightened skull... have you won any insights into "new shadows" and want to share them? the results of my lil experimentations with this feature have been rather meagre until now!
Ola Juandel . . . :)
Yes, as a matter of fact, I really like the new "shadows"! They give a much more realistic impression of shadows. If you turn your shadow on for a single light source / intensity at what ever you want / & I have been getting best results with length at 500, then turn on "ZMode" & "Blur" between 4 & 8, you should get a pretty good looking shadow. I've been playing with the shadows all afternoon & the new shadows are 10 times better than the old ones. ;)
I'll post an example in a little while, just so you can see the results. ;)
Have a good one . . . Mark.
PS: This is an image with 2 point lights in it. The only thing negative I can say is, it took almost 1/2 hour to render this image, & the resolution was only 1500 by 1125. That's about 3 or 4 times as long as in version 1.13.

Hi Kruzr,
Glad to see the skull being used......and in a way I must look into as well....looks like there is potential in the shadow business as well.....so much to learn.

Kruzr I apologize for sticking this in along with yours-I'm not trying in anyway to one up you-but after I read your post about it taking half an hour to render I had to try it since I hadn't tried very much shadow work thankfully mine didn't take quite that long-but the main reason I did post this was becuz some of the objects were drawn in sub-mode and the shadow turns out a little strange.Again hope I'm not intruding to much here.
ed_'s skull and martins hand waving Buh-Bye!
Hi Rhom . . . :) Please, your never intruding!!! :D Anytime you want to throw in an additional image or post on one of my threads your more than welcome to do so. :)
Rhom, what do you mean by "some of the objects were drawn in sub-mode"? Sorry if I sound dumb or new to ZBrush, but I can't recall the term "Sub-Mode" in ZBrush? If you would explain how I could find "Sub-Mode", I'll play with the shadows in that mode & see what I get. ;)
See you's a little later & thanks for the comments . . . Mark.
PS: I like the way you laid all those flat rocks out for the floor covering, bet it took some time to get them arranged so everything fit??? I like your image, very nice. :)
