View Full Version : Cannot save after SnakeHook brush

I imported an OBJ text object, which I saved as a ZB file. I then modified it with the SnakeHook brush, and the program crashed and burned when I tried to save. I opened it back up and went through the rather lengthy SHB process again, with the same result.

I am using a paid-for 1.23 version of ZB, and am the rawest sort of newbie. Any obvious answer to this?

ola, DoctorTed! :D

far from being an expert re: export/import question (lack of other 3d-programs) i tried to verify your problem just now as a friend provided me with text .obj’s some time ago. i imported one via the polymeshtool, did a lil deformation here and there and finally applied some snakehook strokes... and had NO problem saving it (via the "save as" function to be able to name it "snakehookedotto"). problems started when i added some more snakehook and tried to save (using the "save" function only). my MacOS/z-brush came up with the following dialogue http://www.cyber-webs.com/zbrush/error.jpg

i cancelled the save-action and saved via "save as" with same name as before (no ZBR.ZBR.ZBR naming or the like were proposed).

so, the "save as" could be a workaround in your case, too. what are the specifications of your system?

as this is not happening only when working with .obj’s and snakehook here is my question for pixolator, ZuZu or davey: i remember that in v 1.13 the name of the file showed up on top of the canvas as soon as i "saved as". this seems to be the case no more in v.1.23. i further remember that to "save" further versions of my painting after having "saved as" for once was no problem. obviously the macversion is now automatically adding the filetype (.ZBR) and adding another .ZBR for every new try to save it the way i am used to it. i am still using 8.6.

Ola a ti tambien.

I tried the "save as" method, and it worked once. I have to do a new "save as" for every save, but it is an improvement over a complete inability to save.

Incidentally, I am on a PC, so this problem extends across platforms, as well as across continents.

Thanks!

OK, the problem is not limited to the snakehook brush. It looks like *any* change to the imported object makes it impossible to save.

Folks, this could be a bug!

Hate to put a bug in your bug.

But I've had no problems at all with Z.

None. Snakehook, stencil, saving etc. No bugs at all.

If anything I am compelled to state that 1.23 is a faster and better with no problems added to the fixes.

Win2000pro
Annihalator Ultra 2 64 video card

I don't use the dual processor since it's not multithreaded, so I'm on the on the other CPU 326RAM, 750 PIII....

I installed on my smaller HD and work/save to my larger(faster) HD.

dunno.

Thanks for the comments, and I am glad it works well for you.

I am on Win98SE- I have heard that Win2K is more stable. It would be interesting to hear from others to see if we can pin down the conditions in which it happens.

I have win98 SE, 128 Meg of Rem, AMD Athlon 750 MHZ processor.

I've been having crashes will saving as well, and having to resort to the "save as" workaround.

I've been having problems with script recording as well, mostly with some objects ending up in a slightly different location while playing back the script from when I recorded the script.
