I'm currently a modeler and while I like making models my hear is set on making digital sculpts. But it's such a small crowd of guys I'm not sure where to even start looking on how to get a job even doing such a thing. Anyone with experience on the matter I'd really appreciate it if they replied and gave me some words of wisdom. Thanks!

it's not really all that complicated.. get good at it, then apply for jobs, simple as that. there's no hidden secret or digital sculptor job board that we all use :P

haha yea, but I'm currently a hired modeler and I always see jobs for modelers but never for digital sculptors or 3d concept artists like Neville Page type jobs or Scott Patton. or doing maquettes like Gentle Giant does. I like modeling don't get me wrong I just would be much happier if I could leave the majority of topology at the door and do sculpture

Hello Ghostesper.
There are not really any jobs called "digital sculptor".
Usually texture artists do both texture painting and displacement detail (that's what the digital sculpting's all about).
Then it depends on which studio. Some modelers do also displacement detail and some don't.
Also, you'll never find any "Neville Page" type of job :)
Artists like Neville Page or Scott Patton are what they are cause of the tremendous amount of experience they put into designs and they work directly with famous directors like Tim Burton, James Cameron, Guillermo Del Toro etc.
If you want to get to that level...it's a very very long road and it will be anyway very hard to compete with them (and that means "work like them on projects that they work on").
I hope you didn't misunderstand me ;)
Besides, if you want to do digital sculpting instead of modeling you should check out the texture artist position.
If you'll texture digital characters, you'll easily sculpt detail too.

Cheers!
