I just tried playing around with modeling a face on a 3D plane, instead of a sphere. I added the skull courtesy of Atom_Art, and I was inspired to use the eraser tool after viewing Shinzaho's clothing zscript :)

This is a great concept image Zoid-I like it!
Is that gold texture/material yours?I thought I remembered atom_ed referring to it.
It really captures the metal feeling.

WOW! that is great! what a concept!
the material is simply fantastico, Zoid and... what du you mean: you have modelled the face/mask out of a plane, kind of relief-thing and erased the remaining plane then? great job! is that eye painted? it looks fantastique! and the Atom Art Skull is another wonder all by itself... bravissimo!

Thanks for the feedback everyone,

This material is the one that I sent to ed_the_atom in exchange for the skull that he sent to me. I always wanted to have a material that looked like gold. Southern has what looks like a very good one to download on his site, but I couldn't get it to work. I figured it was some kind of Win. to Mac. problem. That's why when ed was able to get the one that I sent him to work I was very excited. The golden/bronzey tones in my material come from a warm yellowy sunset image that I made in Bryce. I imported it into the textures pallette. Then I selected the chrome looking material #5 "Reflected Map" Then in the modifiers>S1 section I clicked on the little mountain/sky image at the bottom and up comes the textures images inventory. I selected my warm sunset image that I had previously loaded and the chrome has now turned to gold/bronze.

I wanted to model onto a 3D plane to give it that embossed onto a thin sheet of metal look, then when I used the eraser tool, parts of the image behind showed through the eye holes. I had fun doing this and it gave me ideas for many more versions :)
