A Work in Progress, 121 Welcome. I decided to put a little more detail in the head then I usually do, so it strayed a little bit from my old anime style, but some of the style still remains.

I like that little critter lurking in the background. Post as you go along with this one - it's going to be very cool to see the progress.

As usual, your clean style blows me away, W/O! :tu:  :tu:
I like everything about this so far...If I was to make any suggestion it would be to move the eyes slightly. I would suggest her looking slightly to her left, ie: away from the 'lurker', would increase the tension in the image.... ;)

Love the eyes! I would agree with Stonecutter. Maker her seem like one of those "B" horror movie ladies...you know the ones that never see it coming until it is too late! :D :tu:

Here's the latest version. I tried the suggestions of having the character look the other way, but the end result wasn't working for me.

The lenses were done using the techniques from Pixolator's clone brush tutorial (transparency and shadows). (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=000142) Plus I used technique of adjusting the depth-of-field graph, so the critter in the background was still somewhat sharp while the rest of the background was out of focus (Depth-Of-Field or "In Focus") (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=003846) and I adjusted the colors used in the drawing. I decided to go for more "brown" tones with this rendering. I'm slowly learning the meaning of the word "subtle" when it comes to color. :)

For the wrinkles in the shirt, I created a "wrinkle" alpha and simply used the simple brush with the "drag rectangle" stroke over the shirt. I did the same thing again, but with ZSub selected in the draw pallette.

I know the the right shoulder needs to be fixed a little bit.

I'm going to have a blast re-rendering my stuff when version 1.3 comes out. :) :)

Beautiful developement, W/O! :tu: :tu: :tu:
I have to say, however, that you might have gone a little too far with the wrinkles in my opinion...The wrinkles are a litle prominent to me...I had a hard time visualizing what kind of material would wrinkle in that fashion.
The expression is incredible, and the coloring is fantastic...!
(Her eyes have so much life in them!!!)
And again, :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:

I like your decision to go for more earthtones on this. Her head is what has me agape, though. Those eyes! Those glasses! That hair! :tu:

Here's the latest version. I toned down the wrinkles on the shirt a little bit. I also added more detail in the eyelid area plus the hand and the stilleto (or would it be considered a short sword? It might be too big to be a stilleto). I realize the hand still needs work. The next version will probably be the final version.

No, this isn't the final version. There's still a couple more things I want to do with this one.

Stonecutter
03-18-02, 09:10 PM
The sweater looks better, and I don't know if you changed the light or if this is just growing on me, but the lighting is perfection! (And that fantastic expression!!!) :tu: :tu: :tu:
This is a glorious piece of Anime/3D/Fantasy Art...I don't know, Winged One...I think you've invented a new genre!!! :)

Mentat7

Awesome! As far as the weapon goes...the blade looks like that of a stilletto but the pommel and cross-piece are too large. Stilletto's generally have a small cross-piece if any and a thin pommel so the hand can be wrapped around it. If you want to keep the pommel and cross piece then broaden the blade to make it look like a short sword and you will have more synergy between the two. :tu:

This is coming along superbly, wish I knew more about blades, but I do like the idea of a Stelleto, dirk or dagger the weapons of choice of wiley assassins and thieves.

This is evolving at such an enormous pace! Impressive seems like such a weak word to use. You ARE the master of ZAnime! :tu: :tu:

WingedOne
03-19-02, 08:32 AM
Thanks for the comments. I'll need to look up some bladed weapon reference material and refine that bit some more.

I thought briefly about having the character holding a gun which I had modeled and placed in the scene, but abandoned that idea (since then it wouldn't be a fair fight). :) But, anyhow, I have a cool gun now, which I can use for a later picture. :)

Stonecutter, the lighting is exactly the same, but I did move the character over to the right by 10 pixels due to the blade blocking the thing in the background which might have had a subtle change in the lighting.

I believe I'm just about done with this. I decided to go with the Stiletto idea. I still have the hair to finish up on. I "dirtied" up the scene a little bit too.

love the "dirty up", WingedOne! those flying pages add to the dynamics (and them bottles remind me of what my place looks like after a session with a few friends :D). fantastico use of depth cue - my only suggestion would be to sharpen the bottle (?) right to the left of her a bit or decrease the d-c-intensity a lil... imho, its too mucho blurred! otherwise: a zillion :tu:s!!!!

Wow WingedOne, the image is looking awsome now!!! The bottles and paper add a lot of realism to the scene I think. Great job! :tu:

BTW, I agree about maybe decreasing the depthcue intensity a little. :)

Latest version. Almost finished. I finished up on the hair and I darkened the cross-piece a little bit because it didn't have enough contrast with the hand. I guess the last thing I'll need to do is work on the depth cue a little more. What I could do is create a depth cue alpha that will leave the bottles to the left sharp.

Here's the version where I used an alpha to keep the bottles and can to the left sharp. I didn't even realize I could use an alpha in the depth-of-field until now.

What can I say?.....You rock!!! I love the anime style and the added elements with the paper and the bottles adds to the experience. One observation...maybe make the scene fade into a darker background the even gold tones that move througout the colums makes it look a little flat. But definitely manganificent!!!! :tu: :tu: :tu:

Wow! This image turned out great. I especially like the blowing papers and her hair, it makes it so dynamic and lends itself to the action of the scene. I hope our heroine comes out on top!
