Hi,

I've seen figures of 1-2 million polys mentioned - can anyone say if that is the limit at which it starts to bog down?

Not that I'm being greedy, but someone asked me if it could handle 7-8 million(!)

Thanks,

Steve

Currently, the limit is around 250,000. That has been exceeded by a large margin by some people with huge amounts of RAM. With the next version, it is going to be pushed higher. I haven't been told yet what the actual limit will be, but from my own experience I can't imagine anyone needing more than about 2 million. Under normal working conditions, that translates to about 1 pixol per polygon, so anything more would just be a hog of RAM without getting practical returns.

"about 1 pixol per polygon". Sweet! So if the tool ::modifier ::Texture ::colorize button is still there in the next version, that means we can simply paint on the mesh and do a Col>Tex to transfer it to a bitmap. No need for TextureMaster to lay down the base colors and for filling in those hard to reach places?

Of course you would still need TM to reap the benefit of texturing with the 2d/2.5d brushes. Am I on the right track here?

1 poly per pixol....hmmm....I can imagine the possibilities....talk about fine looking textures! So I assume this would be on the order of "micro-poly" rendering?

To be perfectly honest, I can't imagine one poly per pixel, but it sounds amazing! :tu: :tu:

Remember, that's just an approximation. If you zoom in really close to the model, of course the polys get larger. :)

Thanks for the information, I can't wait to see how far it can be pushed :)
