Well, in just over two month’s time ZBrush Central will be having it's first birthday on the 19th of April! :D We have built up a wealth of information here over that year and as I write there are almost 4000 topics that have been posted to the forum. I'm planning on making the first ZBrush Central Compilation PDF and I need your help!!!

This compilation will be similar to the ZAcademy PDF, (see link in my signature below). The compilation will have 12 chapters and I need 10 or more, people to compile a chapter each.

The Chapters will be ....

:: ZBrush Basics - :b4:Upham & Mentat7 :b4:
:: ZBrush Modelling :b4: Aurick & Upham :b4:
:: ZBrush Materials
:: ZBrush Painting :b4: Cneofotistos :b4:
:: ZBrush Textures :b4: Ron Harris :b4:
:: ZBrush Tools
:: ZBrush Rendering
:: ZBrush Lighting :b4: Zoid :b4:
:: ZBrush Alpha - :b4:Southern :b4:
:: ZBrush & Other Applications
:: ZScripts :b4: Davey :b4:
:: ZBrush Artists Techniques :b4: Kaz :b4:

If you think you are up to the challenge please post here and I will either delegate you a chapter or you can choose a chapter you would like to study. Please state weather you would like to be delegated a chapter!

You'll have just over a month to do this. The deadline will be the 19th of March. I will then compile all your chapters together (If, for any reason, you prefer that your posted materials will be excluded from this PDF, please let me know). Pixologic will naturally have the final say in Style and content as the ZBrush Central and trademarks belongs to them. The final PDF will be posted on the 19th of April.

You will NEED a copy of Microsoft WORD or be able to save as an edible DOC file. You will also NEED an FTP program to upload the Word file to a FTP site, which I will supply you with.

I've constructed a list of Do's and Do-Nots on this page -> http://www.zbrush.tk. Please read it before you sign up for this task!

Zuzu has done most of the hard work compiling the Quicklinks but I'm sure you will be using this resource a lot!!

Any Questions or comments please also post them here. I'll be editing this post putting volunteer’s names besides chapters.

Thanks in advance!
Upham :)

What a fantastic idea, Upham...! I know NOTHING about FTP so I can't contribute, but I'm one of the many who will be tuning up their printer for this!
Anything I can do to help, given my aforementioned lack of knowledge, I will be glad to do...
THAT'S why I love this place...

FTP is very very easy!! I'd guide you through it if you want StoneCutter?! My ISP here in NZ has a page about useing FTP ... Here (http://www.paradise.net.nz/detect/frames/default/pages/homepages/main.html)

It's basically typing out an address and a password in a explorer type program!

I've sent a PM, and will be trying to get up to speed...This is the most worthy project I've seen here, and I sure as hell want to help if I can! :tu: :tu: :tu:

It's a great idea, Upham, and you can put me down. Go ahead and assign any subject that you think I'd be best for.

I would like to help. I don't know anything about using "Word" though. Maybe there's someone who could help me translate my writing into "Word"? I'm interested in lighting. This is a great idea :tu:

Ok! Great!

Zoid: I'll put you down for Lighting! Do you have a word processor? Something that can save a Rich Text document would do!

EZ: Um, this is going to be a printable book. I need people to copy'n'paste topics of their subjects from this HTML forum into a Word document, so I can't use tools, or ztl files. Would you be willing to try this?

Aurick: Man, you've got a great grounding in all of these chapters, so it's hard to choose. How about ZBrush Modeling??

Thanks guys. Please download the template from http://www.zbrush.tk.

Any more takers? Trust me it's quite fun going through all the old posts and picking up little tid-bits you have missed!

This sounds like a cool idea. I would like to help, as limited to my knowledge of Zbrush is, but just let me know how or what you think I might be able to contribute. I just don't know off the top of my head on what to help with though.

It's a great idea and something that would be very helpful to all. I'm really limited on time over the next two months or so... About all I could really commit to is helping with ftp if anyone has a file but don't want to learn how to do it. Sorry, wish I could do more...

I would like to help in some way. I don't think I qualify as a Hardcore ZBrush user- I've only been using this software for a little over two weeks but if there is something I can help with no matter how small let me know.

Cneofotistos: How about ZBrush Painting? This would cover Texture Master, & 2d & 2.5 painting. Check out all the topics under EFFECTS in the Quicklinks.

Mentat7: Being a newbie, you can help me with the ZBrush Basics. I'm a bit rusty in that department, so I'll get you to copy'n'paste as many tips and tutorials that you feel has REALLY helped you over the past two weeks. This will be an invaluable help to you and give us a fresh perspective!!
Check out THIS (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=000691) link for a start!

Ron: I'll put you down for textures. OK? Have a chat with Southern. He's got a Texture zscript underway that may shed some new light on things. Check out TEXTURING in the Quicklinks, and if you download the template word file on my www.zbrush.tk (http://www.zbrush.tk) site you'll be 4 pages up on everyone else!

Davey: Well, I don't want to get you into trouble ... but, hell yes!!

DLee: Thank you for your help. If you find the time could you possibly help with the ZBrush basics? Anything will do!

Aurick: Looking through the MODELING quicklinks I realise that modeling is the BIGGEST department. I'll be giveing you a hand with this!

Thank you all very, very much for the time and effort you guys are volunteering to do! You'll be fully credited on the front cover and I'm sure this PDF will get a lot of good use over the comming years!
I'll contact you when all when the chapters are all accounted for.

hmmmmm, no sparetime ahead for months, i’m afraid - and no microsoft products on my mac - but in case you find the time to do a german translation as mentioned in the online howtodo’s (and i find out about that richtext-thingie you mentioned as a reply to Zoid), i think i could find the time to read through it (though i dunno any proper translations of 3d-lingo - guess i just have to borrow a book on studio max from a friend to catch up on that), upham! thank you for this gorgeous project!

note to any contributors: in case you find it necessary to implement messages originally posted in juju-pidgin: dont hesitate to translate them into proper english, my friends - no need to contact me about that! :D

Great idea upham. I am not qualified to contribute anything, but I eagerly await the resultant file when it is completed. It will be a great belated birthday present as I will be 65 on April 12th.

Thank you all again for your generous offers of help. I'll be getting in touch with you all in the next couple of days.

The reason I want to translate this to German is from the net-stats I'm getting back from my humble ZBrush newbie site. USA, Canada and Germany are the three main countries I get traffic from, so if anyone want to help translate *AFTER* it's published please be my guest! I'll just be running it through a English<>German translation program to start off with, so it will translate to something like "click the mushroom under the subpalette with a wheelbarrow set to -10" :D

Cneofotistos: You are definatly IN! Thanks, I'll get in touch with you soon.

KAZ: Could I put you down for ARTIST TECHNIQUES? That should be pretty easy! The rule is ONE page each artist.

And to those who would like to help but can't spare the time ( which is totaly understandable!), but would like to help out in some little way, -try makeing a tutorial on one of the subjects above and we'll imortalize you within the covers!

And just to sound desperate ....

You can pick up a free word processor at PC SUITE 2001 (http://www.software602.com/products/pcs/) for the PC (word processor, Spread sheet, picture editor, photo album, etc), - 13.6 megs

Also Freeware - try
STAR OFFICE 5.2 (http://www.sun.com/software/star/staroffice/5.2/get/get.html) though it is a huge 79-105Mbytes download.
(Also availiable for linux)

I tried a number of links for freeware Macintosh word processors, but the pages seemed to be dead. Anyone know of any Freeware/shareware wordprocessor for the Mac??

Fantastic Idea Upham!
Just what is needed to accompany the ZBrush manual.
After viewing your existing tutorials I know these are going to be wonderful.

Yourself and the others supporting you in this endevour have a gift for editing and presenting vital information and basic concepts in a clear concise manner.

Very much looking forward to your finished PDF project.

i want to help tooooo!
though, i don't feel like i'm anywhere near the skills and zknowledge that i'd need, plus i can't do really much with the demo.
i think i'm fairly comfortable with *other* 3d apps (max and such) and might know a thing or two, when it comes to exchanging/converting files.
if it comes to translating anything from/to german (or french, even), count me in.

but then, word is such a *baaaad* program for page layout and after all, we need a .pdf, right? so i'd gladly volunteer and assemble all the contributions in some *real* page layout package (quark xpress, that is), at least this is something i really know about :)

let me know if this is interesting. no problems with ftp transfers and bandwidth over here.

Dear ZBC friends and Upham, I volunteered to help and was delegated to do the textures section. At the time of my volunteering I had more than enough time to help with the project. I must ask that the task be redelegated to another member at this time. A pressing set of circumstances has arisen and I will not be able to give the time or the level of quality deserved to this worthy project. I apologize for any inconveniences I may have caused anyone in this matter.
Respectfully,
Ron Harris

Hey no problem Ron. I'm still working my way around everyone with a minimum 25 page starting document. The good news is that the textures chapter is going to be dropped and merged with the painting chapter.

:b4: If anyone else wants wants to pull out please get back to me ASAP! I've got a FULL ON timetable and getting busier next week so I need to deligate my time and others :b4:

:b4: El-pix. Are you still keen on compiling with Quark? I can get hold of this program, but I'm sure it can save as PDF if Adobe is installed. Would you be keen on ZBrush RENDERING??! :b4:

:b4: STARGO :b4: I'll get in touch with you regarding the translation. Thanks. There will be no deadline for this.

I'm really sorry it is taking me so long to get back to everyone. Night-time rolls around and I've got to sleep (yeah, I know it's a weak reason). I've personally compiled aproximatly 200 pages so far - for other people. It's looking good!! PLEASE make a start and I'll get be getting in touch with you soon!!
Upham :)

:b3: EXTRA NOTE :b3: I'm not sure if it's just me since I started doing this project, but the ZBrushCentral's been producing some EXCELENT content material content lately! THANK YOU ALL !!
