Hi all

I'm just starting to learn Zbrush and I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions for a good book on it. Starting from the basics and ending up somewhere fun. Or even books you've gotten a lot of learning benefit from.

I was thinking of picking up this one. It's 2 years old but it seems to be the kind of thing I'm looking for.

http://www.amazon.ca/Introducing-ZBrush-Eric-Keller/dp/0470262796/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1265742976&sr=8-3

Is it good? Is there a better one I should get first?

I'm just a hobbyist I have a little experience with Maya but I'm no artist (or if I am I'm just an absolutely terrible one :P)I just like doing this kind of thing for my own pleasure.

I'm working my way through all the Pixologic tutorials and reading alot of great stuff on these forums. But I'm a book junkie, what can I say?

Aside from the books any indispensable wisdom or tips would be most welcome as well.

Thanks everyone.

Yes. This book is really good. I also recomend...

Scott Spencer's

1st book (http://www.amazon.com/ZBrush-Character-Creation-Advanced-Sculpting/dp/047024996X/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1265754859&sr=8-3)

and

2nd book (http://www.amazon.com/ZBrush-Character-Creation-Advanced-Sculpting/dp/047024996X/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1265754859&sr=8-3)

If figurative anatomy is your thing check out any of Zack Petroc's DVDs from the Gnomon Workshop...

Actually all of Gnomon's ZBrush DVD's are good!

The expression book junkie had me, kindred soul.
We have come a long way.
A few short years ago, if you had posted this question, the answer
would have been null, only tutorials.
Have never quite figured out how to take a video tutorial to the bathroom.
Now, immediate problems:
1. Even if you buy through Amazon ( which I suggest) the books ain't
cheap. ( I have all of them but I don't take vacations)
2. We are on the threshold of having Zbrush 4 issued
(like threshold?,am sure Pixologic giggles at that),
So any book you buy now, will be slightly obsolete by the time you have
mastered it.
As, we speak, one of the books that I would suggest "Creature.......) by
Scottt Spencer is being revised and that was only issued a few months ago.
Now.
Assuming you haven't fell asleep by now, the main question is what do
you wish to use zbrush for?
Eric Kellor has a good one that will enable you to use Zbrush comprehensively
but more toward the idea of an entire package.
Most of the others ( Scott Spencer, Wayne Robson etc) aim at the modelling,
maps, etc. Quite specific
Best suggestion I can make to you is to wait awhile.
When Zbrush 4 is issued, all books about the previous versions will probably
drop in price.
If you are truly a book junkie Eric Kellors book, general knowledge.
Scott Spence modelling specific.
By the way the books came out at the same time from the same publisher.
In each one, the other is recommended.
Best of luck.
( PS, they don't weigh much, so taking them to the bathroom with
you is convenient. Hate lugging coffee table books)

Great thanks for the replies. It's appreciated.

Bicc to answer your question about what I'm using Zbrush for, I really don't know. I just get a lot of pleasure out of learning ,as weird as that sounds.

Like I said, I suck as an artist by any description but I've never let my lack of any talent whatsoever get in the way of learning something new. After a year or so maybe I'll be able to focus on an actual use for the knowledge but I doubt it..lol. I'll still consider it time well spent.

I picked up Keller's book. I'll probably get the others too they all look great. This will give me lots to do during the rest of this cold, long ass winter.

Thanks again.
