I used a brush as a mask on a 3D sphere.
I used it on the front and it appeared on the back and front.
How can I use a brush to mask the front only?
sounds like your masking using the selection panel or your runing 2 curser front and back.
try holding your CTRL key down in edit mode to mask just the front

Sounds like you had symmetry on when painting the mask.
Alternatively, you were using the Drag-Rectangle method of masking (Edit>Move instead of Edit>Draw). The Drag-Rectangle will mask both the front and back at the same time, since it's mostly meant to mask large areas quickly.
There's an easy way to work around it, though.
1) Draw your mask.
2) Rotate your figure 90 degrees.
3) Invert the mask.
4) Use the Drag-Rectangle again to mask off the area on the back that you don't want.
5) Invert the mask again. All that will be left masked is the front.

Hi Aurick
I was masking using drag rectangle.
I had symmetri off.
I will try your work around this evening when I`m back at my computer with zbrush.
But the part about turning 90 degrees seems strange because that would take the front and back mask and face them left and right
,seems like It should be 180
but I`ll give it try as you say.
My approach uses the Drag-Rectangle to add the back side to the mask. If you rotated 180 degrees, then you'd be masking back and front again, leaving you with an object that's completely masked.
Of course, if you used regular Edit>Draw masking for the back side, then you could rotate 180.
Here's a quick mini-tutorial:

For the back side of the mask, I changed the alpha to Brush 00 (the square rectangle).

Man, Matthew, if they ever decide to re-do the manual for Z at Pixologic, they should hire you to do the job...Your explanations are always clear, concise, and interesting...! :tu: :tu: :tu:
