Hi everyone,
I've been creating a lot of busts recently as a daily exercise/exploration... joining in here seemed like a great fit.
Here's my initial sketch (created in GroBoto). It will also serve as the source of my ZBrush mesh. I'll start roughing in the 'Navigator' elements next... likely I'll continue to play with the overall design in GroBoto as well. I'm never sure where the work is headed -- try to keep the process dynamic throughout.
Best Wishes & Hope everyone has a great time,
Darrel

Adding Navigator elements in GroBoto... will be one or more subtools in ZBrush.
Still fooling with figure as well.
Best Wishes,
Darrel

Just a bit of tweaking - finishing up the gear modeling and other minor stuff in GroBoto. Also ran a test mesh of the gear. The third image goes back to the start -- thought I should show the early modeling steps, arranging primitives.
I'll need to decide where to make the subtool split between head and gear... want the transition to be integrated (not just discreet parts stuck together). Plenty of options, will try a few different ones by varying which primitives are included with each subtool.
Best Wishes,
Darrel

Hey Ares1979,
Thanks, it's a fun way to model. Right, GroBoto automatically generates a unified 'SeamNet' mesh... consists of patches and edge loops. The output OBJ contains groups based on patches or primitives -- useful for masking in ZB. More explanation and many examples in my main WIP/Sketchbook thread.
BTW, I've caught you work in the main forum... you're off to a great, fast start in ZBrush.
Best Wishes,
Darrel

Hey perpetual1969 -- Thanks, seems to work better when the ideas find me.
Hey Ares1979 - Thanks again.
Just a couple of quick 'exploratory' ZBrush sculpts -- about 30 - 45 minutes each. Differences in these two are subtle... second one has a bit more 'android-ness'.
But the point is just play, find what works and what doesn't -- hopefully that will allow me to keep it clean & quick in the final sculpt. Also serves as a good 'tour' of the mesh -- see if I want to set up anything differently in GroBoto.

...brought the Gear subtool into ZBrush.
All still in flux. Simultaneously working everything up. I may add a few more gear/android elements. Needs a base -- have a couple of ideas.

...some work on the Gear (incl. details that are not very visible in these small renders -- I'll upload closer views soon).
Trying out a 'compass' stand -- very raw at the moment.

Some new geometry and more detailing of the gear. Other small tweaks throughout.
Will continue to integrate & refine Gear -- still a fair amount of untouched 'raw' geometry there. Face and torso will get some sort of texture/detail, but I hope to keep it subtle and clean.

A bit of texture on the head and torso -- creating and trying out some new alphas.
Also some workflow images I meant to post a yesterday.

A bit of sculpting on the Gear... using masks based on edge loops to pull out flares, bevels, beads, etc. More fun to be had there, but I think I should give the Gear a break and go back to head & torso.

Lots of subtle tweaks throughout -- much of it adjustments to volumes and proportions... all subtools have seen some work
Feel like I'm nearly finished in the broad sense. Plenty of little bits to clean up/integrate -- some geometry is still too untouched/plain. However, I hope to avoid temptation of excessive detailing. I'd like to keep it clean.
The stand (not shown in these images), needs work, but plan to downplay -- stand is busy enough geometrically, and don't want it to clutter/compete.
Probably do a simple, subtle pose when all is done... nothing about this seems to call for high drama.
Thanks for stopping by -- Best Wishes,
Darrel

Reworked the stand in GroBoto, and tweaked its scale and placement in ZBrush -- pretty happy with the overall balance of the piece now. Made a few other refinements here and there.
Head/torso will go up one sub-D for surface detailing ('tho again, want to keep it relatively clean) and fixes/refinements of the face.

More subtle ('tho I hope, productive) tweaks... mostly chasing down the character in her face while trying to strike a nice stylized/android chord.
Not the final material, but I do plan on going with an unpainted multi-patina metal finish.

Hey sculptor.zb -- Thank you.
Hello SpiritDreamer -- Thanks... I never know who might emerge -- being surprised is one of the great joys of art.
Here's an update. Introducing some more stylized geometry.

Kione is done...
Great fun, lots learned. So many wonderful models -- looking forward to seeing all of the finishes.
Again (like my Rim Lizard), just simple ZBrush renders -- no time nor tools for anything else.
Best Wishes to all.
Thanks for tuning in.

Very nice :) I always enjoy this style you achieve w/ Groboto. The lighting is good. That's with ZBrush lights, not a matcap, right?

Hey Etcher, thanks for stopping by... and for the comments -- originality and beauty are two elusive things that I'm constantly striving for.
Hi jamespthornton, I appreciate the continuing encouragement... this new modeling/mesh GroBoto stuff is starting to come together. Right... a regular ZB Material -- nothing fancy -- with a couple of ZB Lights. All simple, but lots of tweaking of both material and lights until it felt right.
Best Wishes,
Darrel
