Hello. I am Shikuri. ;)

I made the traditional monster of Japan "guardian dogs" this time.
The Japan name is "KOMAINU."
"KOMAINU." is put on entrance gates, such as a temple in Japan, by the pair.
Usually, it is made of the stone.
It is said that the origin of "KOMAINU" was the India lion.
However, it became this form as a result of the transfer of people who have not seen a lion.
The India lion had already become a new living thing, when a message was repeated through China and Korea and it came to Japan.

A central child is the name called "BOKUCHAN."
It is my original character.
I want to make this "BOKUCHAN" into series from now on using ZBrush. :) :) :)

Hello Pigma. Nice pic and great facial expression on your lions and thanks for the background history too. Looks like Zbrush is becoming more than just graphics and that's promising. I liked the way you did the curly fur or hair. Very interesting. ;)

Nice work as usual. I have seen illustrations of these komainu before, and had always assumed they were representations of lions. The correct designation as guard dogs seems more appropriate. To my eyes although they look threatening, I get the feeling that underneath that ferocious expression there's something more friendly lurking too - the ideal mix for a protector.

Beautiful, Pigma!!!

I come here on a regular basis to see if you have posted a new piece, and this one is wonderful...
I have one of these carved from Ivory from the 17th century, standing about 6 inches tall in my studio, and this image looks like it come to life!

Beautiful! The kid reminds me of the rendition of James of James and the Giant Peach.

How did you make the curly bits in the hair?

Thanks.

Hi,waytoofunky.
I like "James and Giant Peach" and Tim-Burton too. :) :)
When I also finish making this "BOKUCYAN", the same thing as you was remembered.
There is a common feature in these two children's design.
It is making other features into the minimum, in order to emphasize the image of a universal and simple child.
The picture for the comparison was prepared here. ;)

Hi, RogerE.
This curly bits transformed and made Spiral3D.
The line carved thinly inported and Inflat Alp in "SELECTION."
May it is helpful to your ZBrush work.
