I'm not sure it's the same problem that I had at first but it looks very similar. At that time I found a post
with a solution that helped me out very much but I can't find it anymore. So I'll try to explain:
Just try to rotate the sphere 90 ¡ around x (cfr example). The prob in my case were the spheres poles. http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200309/user_image-1064056795ugd.jpg

Hiya!

Ummm, Ron Harris mentioned something that has realy helped me out...

insted of useing the pointer mode, use the Move mode to sculpt the fine details. I used to sit there for about 20 minuets trying to make a nose or ears... Now I just make the simple bump with the pointer mode the aproximate size of nose , and then I go to the move mode and sculpt it further...

In the end , there is no right way or wrong way... I have notices every modeling tutorial script, that every artist dose it a little bit diffrently...

so, I guess my best suggestion is to watch all the head modeling tutorial scripts that you can find.. practice their techniques... and you will develope your own unique way of doing it.... I would bet that you get your own method after the 3rd or 4th tutorial script and some practice.

BRB I will attempt to make a nose script for you.

YAY! I got the script recorder to work (With Brother Auricks help!).

here is a nose script,
as you will notice I have to have the eye socketts in place before I begin to mold the nose. the reason for this is because the top of the nose's shape is somewhat determined by the bone over the eyes (the BROW?)...

anyways, some of the secret is in the symetrical settings also. see how I dont make a bump at first? I make kind of an "O" and then fill it in for the rest of the point.

then for the holes (nasal cavitys? LOL) I make the bump on side first and I then HOLD the ALT key and refine the crease to reaffirm the shape... then I make the holes (Booger portals, LMAO!)...

well then it is all about the move mode, to give the final shape.... and cheekbones....

anyways this is just 1 example. there are lots of ways to skin this cat...

Hope this helps :)
