I sculpted/created all of these original models in either ZBrush1.55b or Rhino2.(some of you may recognize the creature from the full figure Zspheres Monday Night Challenge awhile back.
2.2 trillion rays traced!
File size=290megs!
This one almost brought my old PC to the brink! hahahah.
I painted all the textures in ZBrush1.55b and Photoshop.
The final composition and render was done in Bryce4.1
NO POSTWORK
(except my logo and jpeg compression in PS)
I hope you'll enjoy,
Michael

Wow! Missed this one. Excellent stuff as always! :tu: :tu:
Well done! Excellent image with fantastic detail and modeling!
So that it can be clear in my mind, would someone please explain to me, What is considered as post work? because it appears to have different interpretations to different individuals. My interpretation is that any work done outside the main program is post work! I may be wrong as I have been before. So the work done in Bryce, Rhino and photoshop is post work by my definition. of course the main thing is the finished product, and I think you should use all the sources at your disposal to present the best image posible, and this you have done admirably!

Pilou,
Thanks, The total render time was a little more than 15 hours. The rendered image size was only 1024 x 768 @ 96dpi. If I render it large enough for print it will take days if not weeks to render!
Andres,
Thanks, mucho appreciated... you are always very supportive!
Ed,
Thanks, Bonkers, Why... Yes, as a matter of fact! LOL
The Namek,
Thanks Kevin,
I am actually scared to think how long this took in actual hours... at least I can re-use most of these models... hahahah!
DMerchan,
Thank you, I always appreciate your kind feedback!
Joe,
Thanks man,
Postwork = post-production work is any additional work done to the 2d image after the initial rendering.
The modeling and texture work that I did prior to rendering the scene would all be considered pre-production work.
Hope this clears it up for you a little bit.
Take care,
Michael

Well done, but it brought tears to my eyes - of sympathy for your poor old PC!
Joe, I reckon post as in "after" - i.e. work in another application used to touch up or enhance an image after the "final" render in the "main" application. Not that it matters much. They're all only tools to get a job done as best you can. :)

Bill,
Thanks for the feedback! My PC was crying too, LOL!
Bert,
I appreciate it man!! Thanks!
Pilou,
My poor old PC is more than three years old... 633mhz PIII 384 megs of SDRAM... Not bad but definately outdated! The good news is... I will be getting a new system in the next month or so!
Jim,
Thanks buddy, good to hear from you!
Michael,
Thanks for the feedback! I totally agree with you that alot of people seem to rush through things when it comes to digital art. Patience is a virtue! LOL
Best regards,
Michael
its... Incredible, how much time did you spend on it? beautiful work! do you mind if i use it as my desktop?
making a unified skin of a sphere at 16 resolution brings my computer to its knees, and makes it quit zbrush.:P

Reyd,
Thank you for the great response! I didn't clock all the hours spent on this... I'd guesstimate about a hundred hours or so... A ton of time!
Please feel free to use this image on your desktop... if you'd like, give me your e-mail addie I can send you a high res version? Jpeg compression does not do these images justice!
LOL
Best Regards,
Michael
Thanks for your explanation. When I came here there were certain members who frowned on any image that was not completely done in ZBrush. How times have changed! I have always felt that you should use all the tools at your disposal, to satisfy yourself that the image you are creating is done to the best of your ability. I therefore congratulate you once again on an excellent image!

Thanks Joe,
I wholeheartedly appreciate your words!
Yeah, I'll leave the idea of using ONE standalone program to do everything for the "Purists"! LOL, allthough ZBrush can definately be used completely solo. And in most cases can accomplish amazing work. This is displayed here everyday. As a matter of fact, I'd say that ZBrush is the best standalone app there is today!
I agree with you that an artist should use whatever tools he/she needs to get the job finished to satisfation!
Take care buddy,
Michael
