This is something I'm considering using for the title scene of a Moho animation that I intend to work on in the future. This is only a preliminary sketch. The letering was done with Elefont, the rest is Zbrush. Of course, I'll be adding the 3-dimensional elements as I go further along with this image. I'm also trying out Deevee's suggestion about using the larger canvas size and shrinking it for this one.
No connection to Delta City, Colorado, LOL.

Interesting, I will be looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Yeah, I like that, I think you should add a nice glow effect to the lines. :tu:

I just realized that this name was used in "Robocop". I'll have to think of a different name. Oh well.
I've decided to go with either "Omicron City" or "Vector City" in the meantime.
Do we get a chance to select a name, if we do
I like "Vector City".
Hey W/O! This is a VERY smart design. :tu:
I'm looking forward to seeing your winged magic take it to the finish line.
I'd keep the name.

Here's the latest update (a slight one). I worked on the sky with the help of Davey's gradient script. I put stars in it too, but they're not showing up after I shrunk the image. It's Omicron City for now, but would you prefer "Vector" over that? I know that's what Deevee prefers. It's not set in stone yet.
Next, I'll work on the spotlights.

I like it I look forward to the other updates.
Name it whatever pleases you, I only suggested that name if you were forced to change the name you are presently using.

Here's the latest update. A fog alpha seemed to work best for the searchlights. I got the stars to show up this time. Tomorrow, I'll clean up the searchlights some and start work on the buildings.

watching this one unfold has been a bit of a treat for us I think. It's not often we se many geometrical applications in a piece. I'm liking it alot. :tu: :tu: :tu:
Watching drawings getting made from sketches is great! I wonder what this ones gonna end up like...
I like your progress, it is certainly taking on its own character. Looking forward to the other updates ,it should be a beauty :ex:
Looks great WingedOne! One of the things I love best about your work, aside from its Awsomeness, is your planning. When you show your step by steps, and I see the sketches, and how you follow them!!!, I am really amazed. :)

For the searchlights I placed some long tapered cylinders on the canvas did an MRGBZ grab and filled a layer with the resulting alpha. I then did some further refining by drawing in different shades of gray with the line tool. I also added in darker and lighter shades with the highlighter brush. I then blurred the edges using the blur brush. I grabbed the layer again using the MRGBZ tool so I then had that layer available to use as a texture. I then used that texture in the "fog alpha" selection box in the fog sub-menu.
I tried making the searchlights using tapered cylinders and a glow material, but I wasn't satisfied with the look with that.
Excellent effects on the background!! :tu: :tu:
this is an excellent piece, the lights are awesome. Can't wait to see the rest.

great tips re: producing searchlight-effect and a wonderful project! thank you for taking us along! biggest fun for myself is to guess what will take shape next and if my private vision as how things will evolve in a WingedOneWay has been correct... it never is, of course, because you never fail to surprise me in the best sense of the word. :tu: :tu: :tu:

Hey W/O, I love watching the way you work...
It's a fascinating and efficient technique you use, and your WIPs are always so much fun to watch the developmental stages!!!

This is coming along great! I think a gradient map, used as an Alpha would give you a more 3D effect for your searchlights...

Here's the latest update. I tried Stonecutter's suggestion about the searchlights and that seemed to work out well. I still need to brighten up the areas where they intersect. The building windows are too even right now so I'll be adding more detail there, plus I'll be blacking out some of the windows. Normally, all the lights in a building wouldn't be on at the same time. I still have smaller buildings to add in the foreground.

yes sir re bobby
I am impressed :ex: that is a very great looking image. I can say without fear of contradiction that this is a masterpiece already. I totally agree with the proposed upgrades, they are all logical. Thanks for sharing. :ex:
This is coming along so well!
The windows really add to the scene, and I'm sure the future updates will only keep getting better! :D

I love watching you work, because of the logic in your methodology, W/O!!

Here's the third update.
I added the rest of the buildings and I blanked out some of the windows. Next steps will be to change the color of some of the windows and add some more details to the windows so they don't look all evenly lit. I also have something planned with the indentations where the windows were blacked out, since they look a little odd at this point.
I still need to brighten up the intersection of the searchlight beams, add the antenna towers to the buildings, add the docks and water, etc., etc.

Excellent update (missed the previous one!), the way it is filling out is great, each progression is adding a piece to the jigsaw.
Nice work! :) :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:
Fantastic update! I really like how this is developing.

Love this latestest update. Truly is becoming a busy metropolis. Are you going to take it further or is this the final...cause it looks Fantastic!

This isn't the final. There's still a lot that needs to be done with this. This'll eventually be used for the title sequence of a Moho animation I'm working on.
Now I'm beginning to understand how window washers must feel. :)

Great update, W/O! A little Shading Enhancer brush with just RGB at a low setting, 'DOT' Alpha brush, should do well for your searchlights...
I love the clean look you get in your pieces!
