i have seen in conceprtart.org a wonderful thread where every artist post his favourite inpiring book whit a picture of the book so i wanted to make this for two reason for two reason the first is to help beginners like me and the 2nd is just that artists shares books names that can be helpful and inspirative to others
:b3: post book names and picture of the cover plzzz and you can post anything that has inspire you even if its not a book a game a dvd anything

i honestly can't think of a book that i go to much now, but over the years these were a few i went to often. i have way too many sources of inspiration to count, well over a terabyte of images as well.

Every photo-book from Joel Peter Witkin, as he is the only artist I know who can make the most beautiful images with human corpses and deformed people. Looking at his work is a spectacular conflict between beauty and horror.
Witness to Roswell, because no living soul can claim after reading this incredible well researched book that the Roswell UFO crash never occurred.
You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.
Inspiring? You bet!

Hi all!
I was asked very often from where I got the knowledge about human anatomie and I guess this is the right place now.
During the time I´ve learned it, one single book was following me every where I went (with my pencils).
Its a very fat, large and heavy book, tons of highly detailed drawings of really all parts of the human body. After studiing this book you will have no more questions about anatomie.

Well, I would say most of the stuff you can find here: http://www.ballisticpublishing.com/
And also Digital art masters, there are three Volumes and they are all inspiring to read.
digitalmasters.jpg
I also get alot of my inspiration from reading good graphicall novels, such as these:
http://www.amazon.com/Arrival-Shaun-Tan/dp/0439895294/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262456199&sr=1-4#noop

And of course good music :)

Took me a while to remeber where I saw this thread but thought it was a good idea for people to put their inspiration in here.
Rowena Morrill:
A really talented traditional painter. I was given the book by my wifes friend and its my favourite. Google "Rowena morrill"
Rowena.jpg
Patrick Woodroffe:
Most of his stuff is drawn on stones, really surreal. Google "Patrick Woodroffe"

When I think of some more I'll post them here.

i have seen in conceprtart.org...
That site has published a book - Massive Black. You can order it from there. It's a collection of concept art for the entertainment industry. The way those artists capture character something to see. Lots of variety and amazing work.
Not my main source of inspiration, but worth mentioning since it's relevant.

well there's hundreds of books that inspire me hehe - reading is my main source of inspiration - next to films. I have an MA in literature, which might tell you sth LOL
When it comes to art books I could enumerate so many that I'm not sure this thread will be enough ;) but let's choose 3 [I'll link to amazon instead of giving pictures]:
1. The Winston Effect (http://www.amazon.com/Winston-Effect-History-Stan-Studio/dp/1845761502/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262649738&sr=8-1)
2. The Crafting of Narnia (http://www.amazon.com/Crafting-Narnia-Creatures-Weapons-Workshop/dp/0061456357/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262649759&sr=1-1) [definitely the best I've bought last year]
3. All Spectrum (http://www.amazon.com/Spectrum-16-Contemporary-Fantastic-Underwood/dp/1599290340/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262649806&sr=1-1) books :)
Non-art books:
1. Shakespeare is always number one on my list - Hamlet (http://www.amazon.com/Hamlet-Annotated-Shakespeare-William/dp/0300101058/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262649829&sr=1-4) especially - there's just so much in there to draw from... [if you can't stomach the raw language I suggest Kenneth Branagh's movie (http://www.amazon.com/William-Shakespeares-Hamlet-Two-Disc-Special/dp/B00005JLCI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1262650389&sr=8-1)- it includes the entire original text and is visually stunning]
2. Fantasy books of all sorts... The Bartimeaus Trilogy (http://www.amazon.com/Bartimaeus-Trilogy-Boxed-Jonathan-Stroud/dp/142310420X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262649913&sr=1-1) is fantastic and very funny. Also David Eddings's books are worth anyone's time [my fav would be the Elenium trilogy (http://www.amazon.com/Elenium-Diamond-Throne-Knight-Sapphire/dp/0345500938/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262650009&sr=1-1)] And well Harry Potter (http://www.amazon.com/Harry-Potter-Paperback-Box-Books/dp/0545162076/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262650114&sr=1-1) is a must!
3. Dickens - I love his descriptions - they're full of life and magic. I think he's the only writer I've ever known whose descriptions are more fun to read than his dialogues. My fav of his has always been David Copperfield (http://www.amazon.com/Copperfield-Penguin-Classics-Charles-Dickens/dp/0140439447/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262650050&sr=1-1) [has a really detestable villain!].
like I've said I could go on and on hehe...:D

some really cool suggestions in here.
Aside from all the brigeman, loomis, hogarth, and bammes i've got all over my room... i picked up a couple of the d'artiste books that were pretty cool. Got a friend who's just ordered the massive black book too (waiting to find out how awsome it is :P).
