Anyone using a Genius Tablet here?

Hi guys, I bought a Genius MousePen 8 x 6 tablet several days ago.
I need help with it.
Is anybody else on this forum usng the same tablet?

Well i use a genius wizard pen 5x4 when i work on my laptop.

I have a problem with cursor speed.
It is slow as a mother****er.
Can't see any settings that can make the cursor move faster too.

Question is, what version of windows do you use?

I suspect that this is a windows issue. I personally never had a problem with my really cheap genius tablet. Besides the annoying "wintab" message when i unplug my tablet and start ZB.

One other thing you could try out is defining a proper screen region for your tablet in the driver settings.

I'm on a Windows XP Pro machine.
32 bit.

I just noticed that the tablet's pencil doesn't work with the Standard brush.
Will try to mess around with ZB setings.

If you are using ZB 3.5 R3, make sure, that the Settings for your brushes concerning the tablet pressure are set to "Global".

I'm using ZBrush 3.1.
Will try this all on another Windows Xp installation that I have on one of my HDD partitions.

I haven't tried to use the tablet on that other Windows installation but it seems that the OS is not the problem.

The tablet itself is the problem. There are really no cursor speed control sliders or settings for this thing.

It looks that the only way to control the pen's cursosr's speed of a Genius MousePen tablet is to narrow down the work area in the driver settings. There's really no other way, no matter what OS you are on. No speed control sliders or anything.

So you go down to a 3x2 inch work area and suddenly the pen moves with a tolerable speed.
Wow... cool? Problem solved?
Not really.
This whole thing rises the question: what is the point in having a relatively large Genius tablet when in the end of the day you will be forced to work in a 3x2 environment anyways??? :mad:

The mouse is retarded too. Literally.
It not only moves much slower than a regular mouse (even with the Mouse speed setting set to the highest level) but it is also undersized and "sticks" to the tablet's surface like its botom has been made out of sticky rubber. Ever tried to slide a rubber object over glass?
It is a pita to move it around and I am getting a carpal tunnel syndrome just by looking at this piece of junk.

Bottom line: DO NOT buy this tablet! :td:

He works with a bamboo and they really arent that dear.
Ive also used other tabletts before at friends places and they are really more
of a gadget to illustrate what could be possible with something like a wacom:D
The wacom mouse is crappy too tho :D but youll fall in love with the pen so
quick that youll navigate your whole computer with it sooner or later.

I did ask before.
Not here, but on other graphics and CGi-related forums.
And people were giving good reviews for those Genius tablets.
So I decided to get myself one.

By the way, making the work area smaller does not affect the speed of the cursor in ZBrush in any way.
It still lags and drags no matter what.

Oh, and did I mention that the tablet doesn't work in PhotoShop?

Go with the industry standard. Not just for compatibility and general reliability, but also for longevity. I've got 2 Intuos3s and a Cintiq 12 that I've really put to the test over time. True workhorses.

Maybe I will get a Wacom. And I say maybe, because there is one use of buying a cheap tablet - you can test if a pen feels more comfortable than a mouse for you.
If it doesn't - you just switch back to using a mouse and you have only lost $70 instead of $350.

And I learned that for me it is extremely difficult and annoying to work with a pen that has buttons on it.
I am into drawing and I love to draw with a pen.
Not when there are buttons involved, though.

It's a bitch to control all that stuff without totally dropping the pen out of your grip or even flyng it across the room with an involuntary finger flip while you are struggling to move it and simultaneusly keep pressing on one of those microscopic buttons on its tip.
But hey, maybe it's all my fault. Maybe I'm just a clumsy mofo who can't manipulate anything smaller than a baseball bat. :lol:
