Inspired by Daffy..BigMikes DUFFY Post http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=012402

I thought I'd try my hand at a cartoon duck without using any references.....Got it near enough for the exercise.

Script 151kb.....longer than usual, I messed about a bit.

EtA you literally sketch in 3d and that is one of the things that identifies your work for me and one of the greatest things I love about your work...your heads always have character and are always well executed and always full of life....though i dont comment on everything that you produce, trust me, I never miss a piece and am always awed and inspired...thank you for sharing your scripts, techniques, models and tips...it is greatly appreciated and heartfelt buddy. :tu:

Thanks Ron much appreciated.
I too have been looking at your recent works, and I see you are developing life and attitude extremely well with your models. It delights me to see those things. You have my respect for being an honest artist who is remaining faithful to his talent.

Too often around here we see wannabe artists trying to be someone else and not themselves. I often think those people should go and play 'dress-up Barbie' in Poser.

3D art in general seems to be a laboured exercise in dead objects. Very few artists have 'run' with the genre and developed it past the poor cartoon look.

My advice (not that it is given much creedence around here.....as people only hear what they want to hear) is for people to listen to their own talents, and set their
modelling talents free (loosen up). How else can they advance? Then maybe the parade of rubbish we witness might end. Diatribe over.

Anyway thanks again Ron.
I often wonder why I post here.......

Thanks very much ed atom for share your creativity¡¡ your tut help me to learn or at least to see how a great artist like you models¡
I dont understand:
1.-What is watanebe artist?
2.-How can recognize "a watanabe artist" from a true artist, and from on person that just want to initiate in the art?
3.-Dont stop to post please, you can suggest other site to the newbie or to the watanabe artist, but in my modesty and ignorant point of view all the great artist like you help the beginner or why not the "watanabe artist" to be a true artist.

Thanks very much

I know there is a slight variance in our language barriers. I looked the term up, though I know what it means in my head..this is the link to the definition and also a copy of the first definition that is listed..

"someone attempting to emulate a person or genre of people but failing and earning the disgust of those he is attempting to become like
"

that was found on the following dictionary link

urban dictionary (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=wannabe)

You come in here with a knock off of a Chuck Jones original creation and accuse others of lack of originality. Interesting.

Thanks for the definition Ron. :)

Andeseloy....

Firstly I am not a great artist......I just paint and draw here for some kind of weird relaxation. I enjoy the ability of self, much as I would hope all others do.

Wannabe's..... when you pass a certain level of Art appreciation, they become apparent. When you find a person who lives the joy of creating..... you then find a Master.

Hardtwist.....

Firstly it is not a 'knock off'.... I sculptered a duck in the genre of the cartoon.... no reference picture was used. Secondly it is an original model.... ie mine.

The statements above post are didactic more so than insult....the general theme reads....be yourself. I may sound a little harsh.....but I call a spade a spade.

well I was midsentence of defending this thread...but alas, you did it nicely....

Ron now watches the thread and sticks his foot back in his mouth.. :)

The one thing I love about Ed is that he is a straight forward straight shooting guy. And imho he is on the money with his comments. That is not a singular line of thought amongst many members of the forum either.

Excuse me, but to me, you like other artist here, to my ignorant eyes you are a great artist¡¡
Thanks and have no other comment or words and again excuse me.

Andeseloy..

You have no need to excuse yourself.

Personally I do not think your eyes are 'ignorant'.

Apart from Ron I don't think I have ever seen anyone like yourself attack Zbrush, and art with such a passion. And with each of your posts your ability is less stifled by the software learning curve.
I think congratulations are owed to you. :)

Well thank you for your vote of confidence Andre...I am just a fan of people like Ed and I pick up and eat on bread crumbs that they are kind enough to leave behind for me in order to improve my images. The Ed's, Mentat's, DeeVee's, Southern's, Kaz's,KenB's, Marcel's, Oliver's, Adman's, Pixolator's, Kathy's, Stonecutter, Rhom's,The Nameks, Stargos, Dob's, DM's, Slosh's, Sonny's, StevieRae's, Bonecradle's, Flycatcher's (several others that I apologize for not being able to name at the moment) and even the uncanny and witty Robotalk's are the ones that deserve credit for teaching and nuturing the minds of upcoming artists on the forum. I have simply had the greatest opportunity in the past two years to hang around these wonderful people and pester them endlessly with comments and questions about zbrush and other things. And also watch and learn from their great examples and tutorials they graciously take the time to post and explain to laymen like myself. I simply regurgitate back what I have learned and try to be help others when I can, if they seem sincere in their desires to share some bread crumbs I might be able to leave strewn behind in my meager wake. Kudos to you all...(see what you started Ed...lol) i will now curl back up into the fetal position in a corner with a cig hanging out of my mouth on one side and a slice of pecan pie hanging out the other side.

Ron thats rather self effacing......slap yourself around the head.

Yeah I try not to open my mouth.

And hell....it was only a Duck model! :D

LOL, Ed I am having to use the dictionary tonight for sure..but its hard to feel significant sometimes in a pool with 7000 other fish. :) I just meant to give credit where its due and due to advancing me along. I am better than alot I suppose and worse than alot of others and still have a long ways to go to be where I want to be. When I pop on the community forum letting ya'll know I have made my first Z-dollar for one of my pieces of rotted flesh crawls out of the bowels of someones nightmares, then I will be happy. (because then I can give up cutting grass and cleaning toilets for a living) :) But I am great at both of those things....It is nice to be appreciated though, thank you.

My wish list for threads would be the how to start up marketing yourself as a FreeLance Artist.....I really don't have much of a clue on the subject....
