Happy Birthday ZBC!



This week marks the first anniversary of our favorite online community ZBrushCentral !

That's right: one year ago this week, you began sharing your images, tips,
tricks and tutorials with other ZBrush users. In that short time the ZBC
community has grown to nearly 2,000 members and more than 40,000 posts. Some
of you "two-star generals" (you know who you are) have even posted more than
2,000 individual posts!

So first of all, we want to thank each of you for your participation in this
growing forum.

Second, we want to invite all you "lurkers" to pop in and say hello -- it's
okay, we won't bite!

Third, we want to open up this thread to memories of year one. What's your
favorite memory of the past year? Do you remember an outstanding tutorial,
compelling image, inspiring tip, or just a really funny joke?

Just for fun, here's a little look back at the history of ZBrush, Pixologic
and of course, ZBrushCentral.

As for best memory? Geez I havn't really been here that long. But so far? Probably the first time I ever saw Pixolator's "Grrrumpy" Image. That alone made me purchase ZBrush and aspire to become a digital artist.

I'd say my favorite memories of last year have to do with any info having to do with the next version of ZBrush.

I was lucky enough to get to see ZBrush being demonstrated live at the MacWorld expo in July 2000. There was an incredible crowd around this booth where this guy was drawing a flower in 3D on a big screen while another guy was explaining what was happening (Pix and Davey, I think). But I had no idea that getting connected with this software was also going to be an experience that would allow me to connect with other people who shared my excitement for this kind of creativity. I'm like Slosh, before ZBrush I really hadn't done anything for years. Now I think and dream in ZBrush. I also hope other people will delurk and join in. This program and forum works on a very personal level :cool:

I can't name a favorite, because they are all my favorites. :) Actually, the more I think about it, there IS a thread that really stands out in my mind. Size Matters (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=001572) by Impending is not only an astounding image, but its remarkable leaves led me to discover the techniques that I used for my butterfly pictures. Thank you, Joe!

It's been said many, many times -- this has got to be the friendliest place on the web. Whether inspiring one another with new innovations, sharing the secrets to those very same breakthroughs, or offering words of encouragement to a newbie who can't figure out why he or she can't edit that tool anymore (grin), you've all been a family. I'm proud to be in such great company.

Congrats to Pixologic for providing such a great forum, and another congratulations to the members who've made it special!

when i first seen zbrush i was like hmm, kewl, lol until i saw the zscipt stuff. then after watching pix model, i was like thats it. i have to have it. it was pix's grumpy that really got me hooked. if i could recreate it i would for fun. Happy B-day Z.

Happy Birthday :ex: :ex: All I can say is that this program has changed my life in a very positive way. I think that the Zscripts are what really hooked me to this program and the fact that members were so welcoming. There was always a very encouraging word for all. I do not think that the creators of this program know all it's capablities, if they do they have not passed it on.
I just hope that this forum continues to attract quality members as it has in the past.

I have only been a user and member for three months (today is my 3 month anniversary!) but one of the most helpful posts I remember is the Shark script that Pixolator posted on the ZTool Box thread. The low poly method presented there opened my eyes up to a whole new way of doing things. Soon afterward Ken Brilliant reinforced that methodology with his own post of a low poly head script. Aside from that I would like to congratulate the Pixologic Team on their efforts to provide us with excellence in service, quality of product, and a level of personal interaction that I have not experienced from any other software company. Your professionalism and leadership shall pave the way to a glorious future! Here's to Pixologic and their continued success! Cheers!!! Last but not least a big thank you to the ZBrush commnunity for supporting this phenomenal piece of software and for making the forum the friendly, informative, and inspirational place that it is today. Together we can take ZBrush to where no one has gone before..............

Thank you to all who gave permission to use their work, and thank you very much to Digits for hosting these file on his server! Also a big thankyou to Glen Southern who has given me permission to use the tutorials from his site - so this chapter is not 100% ZBrush Central - but hey ... I'm not one to pass up such an amazing offer!

Happy Z-Day ZBC from one who hates Birthdays. I don't know what is more addicting the program or looking at images and interacting with the people on this forum. In you have to be careful that it doesn't take up all your life.

Upham, I almost missed the unveiling of the availablity of the first chapter of your complilation. I might suggest that you repost in a new thread so that it will be more easily locatable in the future in the Quicklinks. I have also given it links at Z-Place. Thanks to you and Aurick for giving up so much of your life to this!

Having posted before now, i guess I no longer count as a "lurker", but am still desperate to find time to sit down and join one of the Monday Night Challenges or similar.

In the meantime, I continue to be humbled by the quality of work posted, and the helpful and friendly atmosphere generated by all users here, old and new alike.

I have a quick question can anyone point me to a tutorial or forum where the rendering of transparent glass is discussed. I've tried all the materials that look transparent, and I've tried adjusting the transparency slider all to no avail???
