View Full Version : newbie at work...
here it is...my first attempt at illustration in zbrush. fixed up the eyes and hair in photoshop. havent quite figured out why the rendering turned so poor on the eyes. the highlights were in the wrong place. had to fix the shadow under the right nostril cuz the render didnt recognize the shadow(yes...i did have shadows turned on) i am seriously hungry for more tutorials.
Pixelator, i am desperate to know you are getting such awesome material gradations on your heads ie: transition from nose to cheek to lips...they seem to all have a different txt.! beautiful...also, please note a question/problem i have on your polymesh tutorial.
oops... forgot the pic:

Wow, what a great first head. The modeling is outstanding and the colors and textures have so much detail. Can't wait to see more!

servus, mason and welcome to ZBcentral! :D
nice to know someone nearby is zbrushing, too and to know the one is a natural talent makes it even better! :D what a superb first contribution! fantastico!
as for your "troubles" (my thoughts only):
:b4: have you tried a render with shadows in z-mode or was it done in default shadows-mode?
:b4: i think southerns mini-tut in this thread (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=000216) may answer some of your questions re: managment of materials for a face. if i get it right, the trick is to save a material and give it a name of its own, activate a material you won’t need, load the saved material into its slot, modify the material, save it under another name, load another material you won’t need for your active project, reload the saved material into the unneeded materials slot, modify and so on...
:b4: Kruzr has posted some very interesting information and developing insights re: polymesh/materials in the last few days:
here (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=001668), here (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=001676) and here (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=001670).
hope this helps and the answers you are looking for are contained therein!
BTW: your portfolio rocks! :tu:

Very very nice image Mason! :)
 :tu:
Great details, eyelids, eyes, hair, everything!
Can't wait to see more! :)
Anybody else noticing how today's ZBrush newbies are putting our first attempts to shame? What's with that?
Seriously, your head is really great, Mason. Lots of details, subtleties of color, etc. Your modeling is top notch, and followed up by equally good finishing work. It's going to be great to see more from you!
Cheers a million Jaundel! the more the better...and before long i hope to post my own discoveries if i can. i see a lot of potential in using this prog. to crossover with some highend software like max or maya.
the modelling is just so incredibly easy and fast...well...
Aurick: what you say is inevitable i think...once zbrush gets out into the market where the graphics professional are...you can expect some amazing stuff. people like pixelator and southern will carve a pretty niche for zbrush.
i intend to create an entirely new portfolio with this software and crossover apps.
Wonderful image, Mason. I checked out your site and you have some really nice illustrations.
Welcome to ZbrushCentral!
Mason, that is just wonderful! If that is your first piece, I can't wait to see what you have in store for us as you learn the program :)

Hello Mason,
Very nice image, an excellent way to start :tu: ZB will be a perfect tool to add to your arsenal!
Aurick - HaHaHa - you're a funny guy and your right. I think ZB is nearing a critical mass - one that will take it out of "cult" status and into the mainstream. As more images appear in print and reach more places on the web, it's acceptance by professionals will grow. We see here the number of posting newcomers is growing exponentially :D
Welcome to ZBC Mason :tu:
