This will hopefully be my last head study before I get 1.5 This particular fella is practice for making a more villainous look. Plus, I was trying to make something more inhuman. Don't know if I accomplished that or not...
Looking for some 121 on this.
Thanks everyone!

The eye brows, the frown, and the sort of jagged nose make a great evil-look. It also looks very nonhuman, bcause of all the facial characteristics, like ridges, that humans don't have. The texture is perfect for him too. Good model Mahlikus. If there's anything I would change, it would be changing the sides of the mouth right here:

they stick out a little much. I would try to make it fade more back into the face as it gets lower instead of abruptly stopping. Very good image though Mahlikus

Well I would say that this guy certainly does depict the evil villan! Actually I think the mouth fits the face well as it is, but I am certainly no expert. I guess what I would do is kind of round out his head a little more. The bumps etc. are good but I think the back of his head needs to flow more with the face. Over all though this is a great piece of modelling!

Thank you both for the comments..the lip was changed and the head wasn't because my abilitiy to manipulate the model is now limited to the use of 2.5D brushes. Of course the eyes are another matter. :D
Still tons to do.
Thanks again!

This a very good base. It should be a great pic. :tu:

Looks like you've been practicing. In a short while, you should really see some progress. :tu:

How come you changed your style? I really liked the heads you did early on, like the vampire and Mahkabee, whatever it was called. Plus Frankie, et al. Not that I'm saying I don't like this new stuff, don't take it wrong. It's just so different from what I associate with your work.

And some advice: I can see where you added the eyelid area into the existing sockets, but there are no seams at all! You did a great job blending them. How? One of my worst problems is trying to blend seams. I can get them to look less "cut out", but then I end up messing up the color and texture. Some tips would be great.

Okay blending...

1.Here is the image before the object was in place.

2.After the object was in place.
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1035173996bfp.jpg

3.After using the blur brush set to below with one swipe.
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1035174055bye.jpg

A tip is to first draw the spheres on a seperate layer, place it, then mark it when your happy. Then merge the head layer with the sphere layers to start 'erasing' the seam.

Also, the glow brush works the same way, Zadd on only, no color or mat just like the blur. It actually handles egdes, seams, and corners differently the the blur brush but your going to have to play around with them to see the difference...its pretty cool. but to intricate right now to go into...maybe a tut later. ;) It was no accident that they do the same thing but with different pixol handling. Pix is a genious!

As for my style change...well thats simple. Art progression. I have already proven to myself that I can model on a realistic level. Now, I am now working on refining skills in caricature, comic, and my dream for making fantasy, medieval, and Sci-Fi images. All kinds of stuff. :D Plus, working on skills in my lighting, texturing, low-poly practice. Too much...*gets dizzy* So I try to challenge myself with every image. Even if only in one area. Once I feel happy that I am well rounded in making stuff in ZB, then I will tackle enormous 2 month projects...but until then...practice, practice, practice!

Have fun with the blur brush!

That's a pretty cool demonstration. I can see where the sphere is imbedded into the socket, so I wonder if you follow up with post work? The villain's eyes, even though studying them shows the basic premise of your technique, still have a very fluid blend, including the texture. The demo you provided still has that "added sphere" look, even without the seam. You have managed, somehow, in the villain to actually get the eyelid/eyeball area to flow into the socket. I don't know if I am phrasing this right. Do you know what I am trying to say? It's better, in other words. I think there are more steps, obviously, and I would hope you won't mind sharing them.

Mahlikus The Black
10-21-02, 11:37 AM
Of course there is postwork! :D ;) Brow ridge and check bone adjustment plus eyelid enhancement.
Now, lets clarify some of the alterations and variables first.
Okay, if you look at the updated villain head and then back at the demo head, then back up to the first head, you will see that the demo head is very different. It was actually the same head but shy about 2 hours of tweek modeling. So, the socket size is different therefore changes the results of the blended sphere with the Demo head. ;)
Next, I am not to sure on the size relation between sphere, socket, and head. The Villain probably looks better because I used a bigger sphere with a different placement and thats another thing. I might have embedded the demo sphere a bit too much.
Also, the villain doesn't look as spherical because it isn't a sphere. It was altered slightly and the eyelids add more to the sense that it isnt a sphere. Hope that makes sense..*blush* Lastly, the skin is just a noisy material with a fleshy colorize. The only textuing is in the back of the head and neck. So, it takes nothing but the seam removal to make the eye seamlessly blend to the head. BTW-I have only used Texture Master once...and that was with the Mahkabre Within image.
I hope this helps a little in showing you that those little variables, sphere size, placement, post-modeling, ...can really affect the outcome of the model.
And if none of this helps, then just let me know of any other questions and/or problems and I'll try to tackle them. ;)

BTW-Bri, I really would like to knowwhatit is you mean... :( You know I would like to help anyway I can. ;) :D

I think what Slosh wants to know, or at least I want to know now that Slosh has brought it up, is about the 'eyelids' them selves. Are they modeled with the head, or are they a separate tool that was positioned in the head and '2.5D-blended' into the sockets?

They look regular enough to be a sphere tool with INITIALIZE:COVERAGE set to about 300 degrees. Set one of these 'eyelid tools' into the socket and mark it. Blend it into the socket with 2.5D tools. Then the eyeball goes on the same marker.

Mahlikus The Black
10-21-02, 01:01 PM
That is exactly right Jay, save you missed one very important step. Inflate the sphere slightly. This rounds off the edges which softens it to make better eyelids. It also makes the sphere just large enough so that when you use the same marker for the eyeball, it fits inside the inflated, 300 degree coverage sphere. ;)
TADA! Instant eyelids! Then all that is let is post modeling with 2.5D brushes. I tried this after looking at Ztevie Rae's eyes and trying to figure out how he does it. See, like I said, there is a little challange in everything I make.

Jaycephus
10-21-02, 03:12 PM
Inflate: I thought you might have done the smoothing with 2.5d methods, but inflate would be quicker and probably much more uniform.

:qu: Have you tried making a polymesh out of the headtool & the eyelid tools so that you could do some more mesh modeling with the eyelids in place?

Mahlikus The Black
10-21-02, 04:13 PM
Yeah, if I needed to make the eyes a little different. But, IMHO, thats the long way around. If I need to have eyelids that were a part of the head mesh then I would add them in the modeling process. ;) The above method was used by accident. The demo froze before I finished my modeling. Thankfully, I set my markers after the first few minutes of modeling. That way, if a crash DOES happen...at least I didnt lose everything. But it did happen and I still needed to make the eyes. So a way to finish was thought up and utilized and by the look of things, it worked pretty well.

I am actually going for an ominous feel. The only thing that makes me mad about what I had in mind (for a villian look) and what I actually ended up with is that he was supposed to be looking over his shoulder (neck rotated) but the demo froze before I had a chance to alter the model. :(
Oh well, oh does it go? Sela Vi...Ce La Ve...Saylavy..lol..anyway...
Thank you all for the comments.

BTW - Where did Slosh go?
You still there buddy?
Did your question get answered???

You could give him an evil looking over shoulder look by just modeling seperate shoulders, it might be hard to connect the shoulders and the nexk so that one cant tell they're seperate models though.

- Je suis saoul comme un cochon
- J'ai tout bu
- J'ai trop bu
- Je n'ai pas les yeux en face des trous
- j'ai vidé la boutanche en entier
etc... i can make twenty translations
but i am sure that i am on the wrong tack !
So please...

LOL!!!
:D

Thats a funny image!

This images as well as my sig are both a play on the phrase "Forgive me Father for I have sinned. It has been **** since my last confession"

You see frenchy, it is a play on the openning line of the Christian belief of Confession. Thats all. What you found was another play on that phrase.

In this case 'Zinned' is for the wine White Zinfindal (which I happen to LOVE!). Mine is Zinned for Zbrush and Sinned. I was going to Type ZSinned but it looks funny.

I hope that clears that up...hehehe.
