 How do I import an image from Photoshop? Does it have to be a Pict file or maybe a Tiff, or a Jpeg....and how do I export my image in Zbrush to Photoshop? I mean, in what format? And finally how can I control the resolution of my image in Zbrush? Is there a way to determine the DPI of what I'm working on? aprospero@earthlink.net

Hi Alberto, and welcome to ZBrush Central!

ZBrush is able to import and export .BMP and .PSD formats (and .PICT for Macintosh). Support for more formats will be added in future versions.

To import an image from Photoshop:
1. In ZBrush, open the Document Palette.
2. Select Import.
3. A system menu should appear that will allow you to browse your system for the selected file.

To export an image from Photoshop in .PSD format:

1. In ZBrush, open the Document Palette.
2. Select Export.
3. A system menu should appear that will allow you to save your image in your desired format.

Currently, ZBrush supports a document size up to 4096x4096 pixels at a standard 72 DPI. "DPI," or Dots Per Inch, is a printing term which determines how large or small your image will print. For digital media, this can be translated into "Pixels Per Inch." For high quality printing, 300 DPI is standard. So, a digital image that is 900x900 pixels, printed at 300 DPI would yield a print of 3" x 3" (3 inches wide, by 3 inches high). If you would like to change the DPI without modifiying the quality of your image (resize the print output), here is one way to do it...Let's use a ZBrush image as an example. Load it into Photoshop. Within the Image/Image Size menu, turn off the “Resample Image” switch and replace the default 72dpi with a new value (such as 300) and Click 'Okay.'
This example should change the DPI of your image and its print output size.

[EDIT]
Thanks upham for your correction :)

If I'm not mistaken Zuzu, it's 4096 x 4096 canvas size and it's standard PSD & BMP file formats across both platforms (no tiff's unless its new in version 1.23??)

Upham.
