Greats stuff! I can't wait to try out the hard surface tools and zspheres2. You guys rock... Keep up the inovations.
Thanks
Yep. You need to get a support site account setup with your ZB serial AND the Cleveridge number. I did mine the 1st day support opened up. You just have to dig through your emails to find that number. It should be on your original order/receipt.
Actually you don't, as long as you PURCHASED ZBrush3 in the first place and have it registered (you can't use it without the registration key) you should get the email. I know, because my friend just got the email and he's never even registered to this forum let alone PIXOLOGIC Support. Also Aurick said so -

Last time it took me about 2 days before mine showed up. They must have some order they put them out in.
I could not even connect to here or the support site most of the morning. Kept timing out. I'd imagine this is a busy day for them.
the waiting for the email is very frustrating, especially since the 3.5 release is for sure

Is there a way to retain the rig once you bump it to a unified or adaptive skin for posing after you've started sculpting? I cant wait to try out the z-sketching, but it would certainly lose some luster for me if I couldn't play with the armature after I've started sculpting.
hahaha yeah like here. it seems you have a gmail account :D

Its automatic. If you have HD geometry, creating normal/displacement/polypaint maps will automatically be extracted from the HD data.
I guess the only people posting here don't have it yet...

Haven't paid a nickel since! :D
I've been playing with this for a few hours now and must say that this release feels familiar even with the new features. The new features are great as expected and everything feels more responsive. What concerns me a little is: a) I couldn't find ZAppLink and the one for 3.1 won't work here, and b) couldn't find any topology tools.
I really like Lightbox and can see it being useful. Moving texture creation buttons, dmaps, etc. all into Tools is very comfortable. There's a ton of little things I like about this version but was really hoping I could just jump into production with it, but until I see ZAppLink that'll be a little difficult to do. I hope I just overlooked it. Anyone else able to find it?
For all those waiting, you'll have a lot of fun with this new release. Congrats, Pixologic and thanks for the excellent tools. :)
I just found my original receipt ... 3/8/2001. Release 1.13.
Still waiting for my link. 8-) But I'm patient.

Deleted the file and redownloaded a few times, still no luck.

WOLFTRAX:
The solve has aalready been posted at the support site.
You do what it says--unzip the the download straight to your Program Files folder. THEN, go to Program Files, find the "Zbrush 3.5" folder, and in there is a folder called "Troubleshoot Help". There is an executable file with a very long name there. Click on it, and it will run and install the software.

First Attempt.
Straight from a zsphere cage, to the Sketch and Armature brushes, and to a Polymesh for the sculpt.
(BTW, kids, it was messy. An hour of getting used to the feeling of drawing with a glue gun, aiming the Armature brush right, and filling in holes.)

I called Pixologic this morning to ask about the
support center being down because as long as
the site was jammed up I couldn't log in to enter
my serial and reference number. They told me that
it doesn't even matter this release if you have joined
the support center because the links will be automatically
sent to whatever e-mail you used when it was initially
purchased.
I didn't here this from another forum or something, I actually
called and this is what I was told. I saw people wondering about
this and I thought I would post because I got this question
answered earlier.

Well I sure hope that's not right, because I bought it 8 years ago and my email address has changed since then ... also living 1000 miles away from where I was living at that time. My email address has also changed since I got release 3, but I think I kept my registration info current.
Got mine and "installed" it, ran, activated and works perfectly. Thanks Pixo! Just a few questions, though...
1. Do the old zbrush plugins work with this version, or do we wait for them to be written again? I'll poke around and figure this out myself, but thought I'd ask (Hope this is not in a FAQ that I missed. I apologize in advance.)
2. This application didn't "install". I just unzipped the file and ran the exe file, which was the application itself. It works fine, but I have to add the shortcut in the start menu. Is this the correct procedure?
Thanks again for the great app!
It's Alive!

Oh my god....
I love you pixo guys. The noise brush works just like the "ignore brush" tool texture layer feature request I begged for. You made it even better then I imagined it in my own head. It's so nice to have a preservable textured surface on your model that you can add, sub, and smooth without destroying that textures texture or conforming that texture to the models surface. The brush works on the model, not the texture- just like I wanted. So happy and I'm sure theres more to this noise feature than this, but I'm so loving the features I found in it so far. Thanks, Thanks, Thanks!!!!!!

I was super excited to get home and download ZBrush 3.5. I unzipped, and double clicked the exe and i get this...
"The application failed to start because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect."
I don't understand that error though has anyone experienced this, I'm sure it's me doing something wrong.
The folder appears to just be an "installed" version of Zbrush, it's not like a standard setup.exe file or an msi.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks, n-drew. figured as much but was hoping ZAppLink would be considered such an integral part of ZBrush that it'd be included as part of the base package. The software will be fun to play with in the meantime. :)

I assume hd mapping is totally reliant on texture size, and how large the final model is to be rendered. So you may have to use an 8 k map, and render in HD resolutions or higher.

Thanks Pixologic Team,
I really want to thank you for this wonderful upgrade. There are so many features and the Zspheres..just wow..I have to admit that I couldn't seem to realize my creative self before but with this more organic approach it is just what I was looking for. I have had Zbrush since the beginning but now, I really feel I may actually post some finished work on here some time soon.

Wow...
It IS faster.
The UI overall is easier on the eyes. Lots of nice anti-alias touches.
Right-click menu has more useful options, including color picker.
Saving ZCurves no longer crashes. :)
Zsphere armatures work a LOT nicer now. No more 'spikies' on unified skin. No more dinking with zspheres to get a nice adaptive skin.
ZSketching, wow, you can bulk things in QUICK.
*EDIT*
Also, >50% bump in max-polys-per-mesh on the same exact hardware!

The problem appears to be with the C++ redistributable package. Uninstall that and then reinstall it. reboot. Then try upgrading ZBrush.

When you bought ZBrush 3 / 3.1 you got an e-mail with all necessary data and on that mail you also find your cleverbridge number.
In case you bought earlier, like me (I did have a version of ZB2, can't exactly remember which one) you had to contact them, and you got a mail with the upgrade data, including that cleverbridge number.
-----------------------------------------
This said: if anyone already downloaded 3.5, how big is the file?
May well be that I have to wait 'till after the 15th as I only have some one gig of download left 'till that date.

Edit: The zip is only 44.5 megs and it unzips into ready-to-run program, no install needed - which I thought was pretty cool.

It's taken me a while to get up and running with my old plugins and settings but so far I gotta say I'm liking the release. The planar brushes and zspheres are really cool, but what has me sold so far is this:
1: Change material to blinn material
2: Go into draw menu, change focal length to 45
3: Turn on floor in draw menu, size correctly
4: Change the transform axis to Y
5: Enjoy the awe of 3d perspective as you would have it in Max/Maya
No more crazy warping when you add a new tool, and it doesn't feel as though your characters are floating in space either. Very nice job, and I think I'll use a setup like this A LOT.

Hello guys, I just woke up and found my upgrade e-mail in my mailbox. But now I canīt install it.
I downloaded the zip file, now I have it extracted in the pixologic folder next to zbrush 3.1 folder, but when I double click the zbrush.exe, I get this message:
"This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem"
Anyone knows what to do in this case? or did I do something wrong with the extracting? like I said I have it in the pixologic folder, extracted right next to zbrush 3.1 folder.
thanks folks

I assume hd mapping is totally reliant on texture size, and how large the final model is to be rendered. So you may have to use an 8 k map, and render in HD resolutions or higher.
Interesting...i was thinking of that for game models but it looks like i may have to go back to photoshop to add my details....

ghost-d ,
You have unzipped the archive in the wrong folder according to me .
You have to unzip it directly in your c:\Program folder
Then you find a ZBrush 3.5 folder in it .
Just click Zbrush.exe and it should work fine then I think :)
It worked fine for me at least ;)
Hi Ghost-d, this sounds like a visual c++ redistributable problem. If one got included with the zbrush zip then I would recommend to install that again (it may be 2005 or 2008 version) but this sounds like something to direct at your support account (at the support site).

Thanks guys, but I still canīt run the .exe. I installed the visual c++ redistributable and all I have now is the zbrush executable error. You know the window that application has to be closed, send error report/donīt send... Thatīs all that changed and I donīt think that itīs any better
Chokmah - Where do you have it extracted? Local disc only, or program files, or program files/pixologic, or program files/pixologic/zbrush3.1 ? because I had it everywhere. The only thing I didnīt try was have all the files pasted from the zbrush3.5 folder directly into 3.1 folder.

asking for a pirate copy of the update on the official forums has got to be the dumbest thing ever... I saved up and bought a copy of the software. It's not that pricey, especially when compared to 3D apps and photoshop etc, and the free upgrades make it one excellent investment.
Looking forward to my email...

I'm extremely happy with the 3.5 update, I'm getting massive performance improvements everywhere, much much faster and snappier. Plugins like Decimation master and ZApplink aren't working for me though.
I'm very grateful for the new perspective view, that's my favorite new feature, the old perspective view had been a torn in my neck. Tons of new stuff in every corner, thank you Pixologic, I love Zbrush!!

~P~EXACTLY. I recommend checking forum maybe someone want's to sell his license, This is how I bough mine for 200$ . With all the support you get for this piece of software and all the free updates I wouldn't hesitate now to pay even tripple right now.

Hey tez,
Do you already have 3.1 ?
Normally you should then also already have the Cleverbridge ref nr emailed to you.
I'm afraid support tickets will not get answered on the 11th.I contacted the UK Cleverbridge branch this morning. They comfirmed I did have a account and resent the original email that came with the 3.1 upgrade. As to whats happening with the links to 3.5 I dont know, I guess they are sending from the US, as the people in the UK didnt even know anything about a update.
Main thing is I know iv got a account with them, so I can wait knowing that its in the process.

In the ZBrush3.5 folder there's a folder named 'Troubleshoot Help' --> in that folder there's an exe file named 'vcredist....exe' --> execute that exe file and ZBrush should lunch fine.
(It installs Microsoft Visual C++ or something like that which you need for ZBrush 3.5.)

The folders scheme, vc++ from troubleshoot folder... thatīs what Iīve got. I have the folders set like that, I have installed the vc++, but I canīt get to install it. First I was having an error that the application canīt start because the configuration is not correct... but as I installed the vc++ I donīt even get that message, all I get is the well known windows error: send error report/donīt send. you know what I mean...
Iīve already sent a ticket so now Iīm waiting for a response... I really donīt know what could be the problem. Hope they will have some answers. Itīs just weird that I didnīt read about anyone else having the same issues. I hope I wonīt have to format the disc. But just in case... what should I do when I want to format? I mean regarding the license. I have zbrush activated online, so should I just deactivate, format the disc, install zbrush and activate? I donīt want to miss any step so I didnīt have any more problems regarding licensing... thatīs the least I need - another problem.
EDIT
Wait a sec... what do you mean by "all files and folders". In zrbush 3.1 folder I only have what I had there before, and in zbrush 3.5 I only have itīs folders just like it was when it was packed. I didnīt copy anything from any of the folder to the other. Is that what you had in mind?

Yup, I did, but Iīm not sure because I have only one account here so I figured I should be the admin (Iīm not really good in this admin/user BS, I just want to work on the computer...), so when I hit "run as" and select aministrator, I have to put there a password. when I use my password it says:

HD Geometry would be really useful though, since I believe it uses memory better. Well in 3.1 it does. It's more responsive than trying to divide up the mesh that high. Plus you could use it to get a ton of leeway on models with simple topology.

Iīm on windows xp professional SP2.
I see what you mean, but there are two options. the current user is set by default. so when I click on administrator, and put my password (the one I have for ghostdog), then I get the bad pass error. And if I leave it blank, he has this for me:
"
unable to log on:
Logon failure: user account restriction. Possible reasons are blank passwords not allowed, logon hour restriction, or a policy restriction has been enforced
"
the thing is that I donīt know what other password to give him as ghostdog is the admin. I really have no idea what to do. should I just create an account named administrator? that seems silly...

I unzipped 3.5, then placed it in the Pixologic folder, then double clicked the ZBrush.exe (3.5), then got an error, then ran the vcredist...exe, then double clicked the ZBrush3.5exe (3.5) again and ZBrush launched.
No need to be sorry. Just sorry about me... Iīm poor little thing...

maybe i should write, that i am although still waiting ;-)
Well, i am really exited about seeing, how people are going to use the new features. On the other side, i guess, that there might be a slight increase of tentacle-Snail-Snake creatures with lots of muscle-strands :-D
so far!

ghost..I downloaded to desktop and extracted a folder to desktop also,,then ran the 3.5 exe and installed.(With that i got 3.1 and 3.5 running in win xp 32bit) hope this helps.
p.s the troubleshooting page said 3.5 wasnt like a patch so seperate install gives you both and you should be good to go.

It really seems a great update ! ^^
I don't if it is just me but Matcap display seems a bit different than in the 3.1 version .
I would like to know if there is an exaplanation . Just curious .^^
Thanks again Pixologic .
I hope everyone here will be able to install this great update safely .:)

the waiting is killing me softly ...
Yeah!! I got it and works well!
Could somebody try and tell more about the new UV tiles - PUV announced in the last Siggraph. Are they present in 3.5?PUV was mentioned in the list on the release announcement. As for what it does, all I've heard of it was what is on the first post. "Most efficient use of UV space yet" or something like that. I'm curious myself to see if that will solve some problems I'm having.
After the 3.0 launch I didn't get my email for a few days. After waiting too long I called Cleverbridge and found out they had my original dead email account listed and that my email had gone out days ago. D'OH! That's why I called Cleverbridge almost a week before the original launch date for 3.5 and confirmed that my email address was right.
Any second now... any second.

still aint got mine :( do you have to have your serial on the suport page? (not the cleverbridge number the zbrush serial) i put mine in there but theres a zero / letter O confusion, i could not tell what it wask i put the letter, hoping if it was a 0 theywould have hte slash thru it or something, O's and 0's should be forever banned from serial numbers
could someone post what time they consider end of business day. as in "in x hours?". Don't know cause of all the timezones.End of Business would be 5pm U.S. Pacific Time (-8 hours GMT). I largely suspect they won't look at support requests until tomorrow or Monday. I haven't see mine either, so I doubt they're sending them in order of purchase either. ;) I'd give it another 9 or 10 hours before posting support requests.

-KI reckon they are sending them in alphabetical order. My e-mail begins with "S" and seeing as I don't yet have the e-mail, that would make sense.
Either way, I'm predicting next week now before mine arrives.

Ok, thanks.

All Mac licenses will be upgraded from ZBrush 3.2 to version 3.5 in the near future, when we will also be releasing GoZBrush for the PC. We do not currently have a release date for these, but can promise that it will be no longer than absolutely necessary to deliver a quality, feature-rich product. (Version 3.2 for Mac already has GoZ. If you are a Mac user who has not yet updated to 3.2 please see here (/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=17).)
I'll try to be happy with the other new Features.

Props to you Pixologic!!!!!!! :D:tu:
So now that more and more people are getting a crack at ZB3.5 might I ask what improvements are being noticed, generally.
So far I am underwhelmed by what I've been reading. Is GoZ, or any semblance of it, in or out ? Is light box anything more than a glorified image browser ? Has anything been done to texture painting workflows, has topology workflow been improved ? etc.... etc....
What about stability issues, or speed ?
The new brushes look interesting, no doubt, and ZSpheres 2 might redefine the way I sculpt, but I am just not getting the vibe that any of the much hyped 'pipeline' tools, or general workflow improvements are actually in the update.
My concern is that with the wait for plugins to be rewritten, stability issues I have always had with 'vanilla' ZBrush installs, the fact that I am currently midway through a project...... is there really any reason beyond playing with the new brushes for me to upgrade from 3.1 ? The only reason I might would be improved stability, or perhaps a few, or even one really good pipeline or integration tool ?
I hope that I am wrong in my initial gut feeling when I do receive the upgrade email, so I thought that I would ask a few of you who are already trying it.
Thanks for your time.

I'll see if i can change my email to aaaaa something after this upgrade
I just called Pixologic to confirm they had me on the

any questions until all emails have been sent.
They said if i have not received an email by Monday 14th

1 Month ago i bought zbrush.
Only because of the incredible zspheres2.
Today i received the mail from cleverbridge, downloaded the 3.5 and activated it. Everything is fine and running and... i am happy.

from Zaphod :
Well: the scheme of cleverbridge for sending 3.5 mails is in fact very simple!
According to Trillian (Marvin denies) all you have to do is take the checksum of your nick, add your first name spelled backwards, weight this against the actual temperature of your CPU, divide this by 3.14, feed this into your Sub-Etha-Sens-O-Matik, grab your towel and then forget about the improbable result you just got from the Sub-Etha-Sens-O-Matik (never worked, anyway).
Because this procedure does not seem to be a very smart solution to the problem of how to send a mail to whom and when - they're picking straws!
Simple as that!
Will nobody ask if anybody with a "Z" as first letter has received anything yet?
LOL !
That's probably the only right explanation  .
My email starts with R, but my last name starts with B......so maybe they are doing first letter of your email....:qu: :qu: :qu:

Thanks for your time.As far as I can tell 3.5 is definitely more stable than 3.1 and definitely runs more smoothly. Loads up faster as well. (I'm using 64-bit Vista)
The new Zspheres tools are great (they take a little time to get used to, but not too much) and I think it will change a lot on how many build their base meshes. Especially those who may not have liked using the original zspheres.
GoZ isnt in 3.5, yet.
Lightbox is good too, it gives you simple and fast access to any files on your computer (whether its textures, brushes, or models).
Topology workflow, I havent noticed any major changes. I havent had a chance to play around with the texture painting yet.
I was hoping for a 64-bit version, but hopefully we'll see that for 4.0.

hmm, considering CB doesnt use some weird voodoo script, i would assume they kept it simple: If they send out a letter of the alphabet all two hours then that would mean that mine should arrive in the next 4 hours (since M just went through and i have an "O").

Northbrook, IL. here. I guess we will have to wait till after the weekend. (The weekend of Sept 26th and 27th). :-(
Still waiting for my email ... but have a question for those who have already received it ...
Does the upgrade show up in your account in the Pixologic Support section? Reason I ask is it's been known in the past that I haven't received some emails, and try as I may to reset my spam filter there are still things that don't come through. I'm hoping that if the email got lost in the ether I'll still be able to download from my account.
