Hello Zfriends,
Just a project I am working on currently.
Everything in this is made of Zspheres using adaptive skins except for the cloth modeled from a SweepProfile3d Ztool and the torso which was modeled out of a plain ole Sphere3d Ztool.
Next, to work on a background for this guy.
Any feedback and/or critiques are most welcome!
Thanks for viewing,
Michael

That is very suwheet. Is he a warrior monk? He is very muscular. :)

Thanks Mentat,
Yeah, he is a wired, kick butt kind of monk!
Them monks, they got alot of free time! LOL
I was thinking he is perhaps a sensai as well as a monk. Non-violent unless there is no alternative!
;~)
Take care man,
Michael

love the modeling , he does seem quite muscular :p
nice work on the clothing too.
great work Michael :tu: :tu: :tu:
I'll second that, nice work. :) :tu:
I also like the head modelling, you gave it a good finish. :)
Although on a side note, Asian monks rarely? wear helmets. A horned helmet is very European. Or Viking! :)

Hey Michael, those are some sweet materials. :tu: Are they all custom?
PusGhetty
05-08-03, 03:41 AM
Thanks everyone,
Gummie,
Yeah, you're right... I still have to model some head gear for this guy. I planned on it.
The helm is actually the same one I built for my poseable dwarf Bolgriff.
Jay,
Yes, those are all custom except for the upper left hand corner and the render of the parts individually. Those were both done with Ofers great GI-white material and his light settings. You can find them in this (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=010113&p=2)
thread. If you want I can upload my custom mats for everyone to check out?!
Take care,
Michael

OK, yes I have the 'GI' material, but I don't have anything like your metal. Would you share that?
Thanks,

Thanks Pilou and Leo, I appreciate it!
Jay,
and anyone else who is interested,
here is a .zip containing all five of my custom materials above as well as the two lighting settings that I used for them.
Pus_5monkmats_zmaterials.ZIP (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200305/user_file-1052415349ftf.zip)
In clockwise order from the upper middle material:
Granitepus, Waxypus, Toonpus, MetalGalvanizedpus, and Crystalpus
The light files are called:
Studiopus and toonpus
The studio light file is set up for 3point studio lighting including Key, Fill and Back lights.
The Toon lights should go with the toon material for the best effect.
And finally,
a little update,
Take care,
Michael

sweet looking update pus.. that guy rocks,.. and thanks for the material and lights,.. one can never have enough materials.
This is excellent, Pushgetti. You changed his hat from what you had at the beginning. Did you delete it? I prefer it to the one you textured. Maybe it's just the hard hat look to it. That's a minor point, the rest is super and the settings you put him in is great as well.

You sure he's a monk - looks increasingly like a wrestler from the WWF! :D Great modelling though, and thanks for the textures. :tu: :tu:

Great mork Michael !!! Cool update !!! :D :tu: :tu:
Well done !! :D :tu: :tu:
Pus, your chunky, muscled monk looks like he'd be able to smash king-size concrete slabs with ease. :D Cool stuff. :tu:

Thank you all for the great comments! LOL ;~)
Mucho appreciated!
Hats, hats, hats... hmmn!
I have been making some hats out of the SweepProfile3d ztool. The steel one above as well as these next two are all traditional eastern style monk hats.
I think I like the black one best...
whaddya' all think?

Some very fine modelling PG. You, and others here, have inspired me to start practicing, with zspheres, more. Thanks for that. :)
I think both of those hats look good. Much better suited to the picture. Of course my own opinion ~s~ What do I know.
The other hat was good, just the coloring made him look like a construction worker that got lost or on vacation and lost his clothes ~G~ I'll shut up now.

Tony,
Thanks man!
Zspheres are the way to go!
Deb,
I appreciate your feedback... Your opinion is meaningful! LOL to your vision of him as a construction worker who lost his clothes... too funny!
Thank you!
Take care,
Michael

Looking fab! My personal favorite is the straw, rice-patty hat. You should consider completing him from the waist down so you can equip him with gnarly bowed legs with muscular calves and wooden sandles. :D :tu: :tu:

Thanks Mentat,
Yeah, I think the Korean monk(rice pattie) hat is working when I use better lighting. It reminds me of Rayden from Mortal Kombat. I am still undecided though!
As for legs, Maybe next time... I'll leave it to your imagination for now hahaha!
Here's the final sketch(maybe)...
Next, is to do the big finished piece.
However, right now I'm off to the rehearsal studio... Cya later,
Michael

That looks great Michael! The hat is perfect and the skin looks fabulous! Wonderful piece of work!! :tu: :tu: :tu:
It looks great. The texture and lighting is perfect. ~s~ And the hat ~G~
Nice project, Michael! :tu:
I see sensei went to the beach yesterday ;)
A looser weave in the straw hat would let little diamonds of light fall on his face (a favorite subject of watercolorists :D)
Take care,
Kevin

Maybe you can put a light under the lampshade hat :) It's a little dark !

great model!!!
how did you connect the hand and the torso, made them one model?

05-13-03, 02:08 PM
Thanks everyone ;~)
Havran... that's a cool idea... I may try that! Thanks!
Okislev,
Thanks for the comment... The arm and torso were scaled and positioned to look as though they are one part... I used the smudge brush to get rid of the seams.
Take care,
Michael

I think I'm finally finished with this one... now off to something new! As you can see I decided to go with the rice pattie hat! ;~)

Q: Did you TextureMaster the body or paint it after placing it in the scene?
PusGhetty
05-15-03, 12:36 PM
Evoken,
Thanks man!
Jay,
Thanks,
I didn't use texture master at all in this picture.
I used a tweaked version of Pix's Quadshader material on the body parts and I painted right on the models after dropping them using the simple brush with RGB only... the material was in MTB's thread on subsurface scattering... I don't know the url? *edit* I found it... here it is (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=010026&p=7)

Pus,
 :tu: :ex:
How did you get rid of the "jaggies" which appear along the edges of Macho Monk's hat on page one of this thread?
This is the smoothest rendering I've yet to see from ZBrush. Did you need to use the blur brush and blend the edges manually, or is this a straight render, without cosmetic enhancements?
Great picture!
Confusious say those triceps belong on a buffalo ! :D
PusGhetty
05-16-03, 02:45 PM
Thanks everyone for the great comments!
Denture Cream,
Thanks, it is for the most part a straight render... although I did some cosmetic postwork to it, not on the edges though.
In order to get rid of the jaggies I rendered the final image very large for a magazine size print... 2625x3225 pixels or 8.75"x10.75" @300dpi.
After shrinking it down for the web it gets rid of the jaggies. Here's a crop of the final render at actual size.
Take care,
Michael
