Thanks for the feedback, Crusoe.
Didn't expect that Voxel-based modeling has such big disadvantages.
Nothing goes over a personal experience.

Hey guys, how can I know which email they will send the info to? I don't remember which one i gave to pixo..... Is there a way I can check?
I know I may be jumping the gun, but fingers crossed, hoping for some notification soon!

In the end it depends on your needs and worflow, i guess.
But if Pixo add mudbox texturing features and 3dcoat topology tools, or anything similar ...enough said, dreaming dreaming :)
lI got used to ZB workflow and I have to say that mudbox texturing tool doen't excite me so much !
When you know how ZB works, I find it pretty useful for modeling and texturing. I do some render in ZB for final image many time !
i hope you can use the zsphere armature to pose the model after making the unified skin:D

Besides Spotlight and Lightbox, I wonder what else Zbrush 4 may have in store.
Multiple texture, normal and displacement maps per Tool (by using subtools), with enhanced displacement and normal map options such as native export of 32-bit displacement maps. High-Definition displacement and normal maps from HD geometry. Improved perspective with a floor grid. Reorganization of the Tool sub-palettes to coordinate with selected SubTools. The ability to merge all visible SubTools and optionally weld the seams. The new PUVTiles mapping method, which represents the most efficient use of UV space yet. PolyPainting and masking have now been enhanced to 16-bit from the previous 8-bit. New navigation to work with the virtually unlimited zooming. Right-Click Navigation. New sliders added to Project All, providing more control over your results. Memory management enhancements give the capability to subdivide your models to higher polygon counts. New ambient occlusion masking, which can create an AO texture for use in other applications.
And if these are the new features for 3.5. So now you can merge all subtools and weld seams...? I wanna see and check that out.

Looks like I am going to have to learn more about the human body. Darn where did I put those books at?
Pixologic, it was real nice of you to post the tut's on the new features before it was released. Gave me something to keep the hunger down.
Just a couple more hours before zero hour.

just tested mudbox, to have a tast of what's around, and was quite impressed by the mudbox feature nad what they were trying to do: u can texture like polypainting in zbrushm but stragiht onto the texture, without resolution loss...didnt try ZB3.2 Ao but Mud one is pretty good (better than Xnormal to my taste)
but cant use mudbox, such a pain to get it running smoothly...also hate the brushes, the are so "jaggy" and have some kind of lag (even with the laxymouse rippoff option turned on)
o well, again...maybe im just too used to Zbrush ;)
(or it's actually teh best programe in the whole universe lol)
where's is my mail??3.5?? :)
just kidding, too busy at work to even have the time to test it if we got it now lol

PS did this thread grow by 10 pages or something overnight?
Major, major kudos to Pixo for having the documentation videos ready before the software. That'll help big time. :tu:
Amazing. I can`t wait to see where thoses new features can take me.
No one else seemed to fixate on this, but I can't tell you how happy I was to see that the new zsphere brushes support radial symmetry.
**** im so exited ... cant stop refreshing everything every few seconds (well i guess like you all)
just finished a new zsphere amature so i can start testing the new zspheres right after installing it.
just hope it will be compatible with older zbrushfiles ...

good night.
As soon as the new version has been released, Cleverbridge will begin sending emails to all users of ZBrush 3 for the PC. These emails will go out in batches, based upon Cleverbridge's server capacity. This means that it may take one or two days for all upgrade emails to be sent. So, even if they release today, don´t expect to get your hands on it immediately

I feel sorry for people with general a support issues tomorrow. They told us all to create trouble tickets if we didn't have download instruction for 3.5 by tomorrow. Looks like the Pixologic support staff are going to be hating life.
3pm here still nothing.
The least, the VERY LEAST they could have done today was post some new information. Sorry, but new tutorial vids arent good enough when we expected to be able to use those new features BY TODAY!Nice contradiction. :D
And which is to bring that? Do you mean, then it goes faster? I am disappointed also that I have still no new information or even the update, but thus become also nothing better.
Nice contradiction. :D
I'd would rather want to know WHY still cant get said features today than SEE what we could be doing today.
September 9 is getting near. Has anyone gotten a notification about the upgrade yet?

Just be glad they DO release a new version and don't charge you for every stupid thing they could.

I imagined that Z4 was never coming out at the end of August. But I thought that they obviously had some stuff completed already right?
I thought that Pixo already had a big chunk of Z4 ready but not all of that completed "chunk" would be released as Z 3.5. So I was sure that Z 3.5 would be on time.
But it wasn't. Which makes me ask myself, how did they at any time believe Z4 would be ready for the end of August. When Z 3.5 still couldn't be on time. I don't see how they even believed it.
Well better for me though cause I'm sure when Z4 comes out it will go up in price. It'll give me time to buy Z3.

Maybe the features from z4 are delayed for other reasons? Perhaps they are trying to patent some new tech or something. Seems like it is just held up in the bug squashing phase to me.

Imagine being a little kid... like 8 years old, and your parents planned to take you to Disney World (what kid wouldn't like Disney World xD). So your parents tell you that we're gonna be going this summer. Then you wait for a whole school year to end and finally summer comes around. Then your parents say well, just wait another week and we'll go. Then you wait a week to finally get ready to go and you're "PUMPED." So now you're just waiting and waiting... You ask your parents when are we gonna go, but instead of telling you anything, they just remained silent. So now you're like WTH... And you tell your friend about your parents not taking to Disney World when they said they were, and you're clueless if you will even be going this summer. Then your friend turns around and tell you " You're getting an amazing trip for free, stop complaining about it." Thus, this could make you feel that your friend just kicked you in the shin while you're down on the ground.
So hopefully this can enlighten you on how others feel. But with that being said... we're not a bunch of 8 year olds (so I assume), so let's just be adults and exercise the use of patience muhahaha.

I know that you are just giving an example and not complaining per say.. but the example reminds me of the video on youtube about this kid who didnt get his xbox like he thought he was.
big deal, thats life and learn to live with it instead of being a spoiled brat.
if theres a good reason why his parents arent taking the kid out to disney land.. ( like needing to pay on bills, or a parent losing a job, etc ) then theres no reason why the kid should be fussy.
same with this zbrush thing. if pix hasnt released zbrush then theres obviously a good reason as to why. many of us use this product for work, and if its unstable then it is useless. if it takes them a week, two weeks, month, two months until its ready then so be it.
That said... Where's Z3.5!!!!!! :D

Wow.
I actually came in here to pose a ZB3.5 question, just to see if anyone had a theory on it....but after wading through the sheer volume of whine and complain...well, I'm ready for a nap, lol.
Well, I know better, but lemme throw a couple of pennies into the ring;
*People LOVE ZBrush. If they didn't, users wouldn't vent like they are here.
*ZBrush is obviously (imho) the best in the organic modeling world, or we wouldn't also see first time posters coming in and trying to snipe Pixologic with snide one liners. (They see this as an opportunity of weakness)
*To those newbie posters...will we we see amazing sculpts from you after you get your hands on ZB3.5? Is that what you truly need to finally start making those masterpieces? Is that what's been holding you back? A new version?
(I doubt it. You probably just need more of what I also need; even more practice with the version at hand)
*Unfortunately, receiving complaints is the price Pixologic pays when they refuse to release their product until it's ready. Yup, I agree, the delay sucks, lol. Yes, I also want ZB3.5 pretty bad, but you know what? More power to Pixologic.
Real world, hands-on people have no room for tools that do not work, period.
I too wait in anticipation...but I appreciate that Pixologic is willing to take some flak until they can hand me a more reliable tool.

Make sure you submit you support tickets tomorrow! ...That doesn´t make any sense if it hasn´t be released, they will not release it because people will spam them with mails.
I haven't seen many people really "venting". I do agree that spam will lead to nothing and shouldn't be done.
Still, most are just overanxious, but meh... I haven't seen anything really bad. I feel the holier than thou ones are more annoying.
Then again I'm used to delays of all kind. I'm a boxing fan, awesome fights get delayed for months due to injuries or money issues.

We're all perfectly aware that the 3.5 team is under unbelieviable pressure. We aren't pissed because it isn't out yet. We're pissed because they refuse to be forthcoming about the delays. Every employee of Pixologic knows thousands of people have pissed away a whole day in front of their computers hoping for the release. How many of them have bothered to log on and concede that they need more time and apologize?
We have no desire for groundbreaking, revolutionary software that is released before it is ready. But the way Pixo has handled the information flow is on the edge of insulting.
Pixologic's offices close in thirteen minutes, and the e-mails obviously aren't coming today. Pixologic was probably able to figure this out seventeen minutes after they opened. Can I have my nine hours back, please?

I'm still surprised they haven't learn't to give a round-about date, rather than keep changing it.
Someone there needs a slap.
This is total bull****...
I have waited and waited for this damn program for way to long.Yes i love Pixologic, i love Zbrush but this is plain out stupid of them to keep putting release dates up then changing them at the last moment. They need to quit wasting our time checking email and websites. It should have been released by today. Why would they release it the same day they told everyone to send a support ticket.
Now i'm sure Go-Z and Zbrush4 will be delayed also.
Sorry to vent but i wanted to let my feelings out.
Ok now you guys can cuss me out and say whatever.

It will be here soon enougth, given em chance, im shure they are working their ass off trying to get this out as fast as they can. Main thing it dam well works, if not then start complaining.

Please, plesae stop excusing them, its the 4 FOURTH !! time they miss their self created deadline !
There is no excuse left, they fail. Completely. The software may be awesome, very polished, whatever, right now pixologic is a truck of fail in the history of software release.
Let us vent our frustration, it the least you can do, if you still have faith for a release soon, good for you, i for one don't.

I strongly believe they will release together with mac version hopefully by end of this month. If you are not happy about it, don't update your version.

 Dont! say that. Thats another 21 days of torment for these poor guys that need, erm, want the new box of tricks.
Joking aside, it would be nice to have GoZ with 3.5 as originaly planned.

Okay guys...lets talk about self appointed deadlines. They push a company to strive. To create something great, and actually release it.
Lets talk about Ninja Gaiden II. They set a release date, the product wasn't ready for the release date. They released anyway. Game has MAJOR flaws in frame rates, shadows, textures, tons of bugs everywhere. Good game, not great. Lead designer leaves company.
All of this happened because they would rather make money than release late.
How many other games just got pushed back...bio shock II I believe, Mass Effect II...I'm sure a ton of others as well. And everyone is bitching...seriously?
I would rather have a product that functions and is flawless...or near as they could get, than get a half assed POS. ***autodesk*** Give them $4k and in 6months they want another $800 for an update.
Seriously, the guys at Pixologic are pushing the envelope and changing the way digital media is generated. They have given art back to the artist. You don't need to know a billion different commands to get Zbrush to work and give you beautiful art. You don't need to have been working in 3D for the last 10-20yrs. You just need to know form. If you give Zbrush to any real life sculptor and give them a 30min lesson on the interface...they will give you great work.
If you sit down with that same person in any "traditional" 3d modeling app...they will probably give you a pretty box with a nice boolean out of it.
Anyway, before everyone gets on my case...I can't wait to get my hands on the new features, tools, etc. But instead of beating my head against the wall, waiting to flood their server with emails saying...I didn't get my upgrade! (which may crash their system...making it take even longer to get your upgrade). I'm just going to sit back, throw on some tunes (Little People, and Blockhead), and do some sculpting in the best sculpting package that is available. Even without 3.5, Zbrush is still hands down the best sculpting, retopo, texturing, fine arts, etc, product you can get for your money.

I wonder if we hit 1 to 1,5k posts till release. :)
Maybe we'll get a cookie...
Somewhere out there tonight there is a group of people
who have worked long hours to produce a product.
Would take a guess and say they are approaching the
end of their string.
Whatever they are getting paid is probably not worth
the work and sacrifices they have put in.
They don't own the company, they are cogs in the bigger wheel.
Make no mistake this is the job they picked.
But at a time like this, it would be the nice, correct thing to have a bit more patience and support them until the final moment.
To give to them what we ourselves would like to see, kindness and understanding.
Having said that......
MOVE YOUR ASSES!!!!
Respectfully.

Really, bicc, well said. Despite that, I think the product is DONE. Pix is probably consulting an astrologer or Twitter priestess on the timing.

Romper room OMG, now I am going to have nightmares, no one needs to talk about the blue thing. Okay?
I think that who ever is hosting the downloads does not have the capacity to handle the amount of request. Hopefully they are securing more bandwidth and some robust servers. I am guessing that they will have that all worked out in a few days, weeks, or months.
Checked out the tuts this morning and once again they are really good.
Do not know about the Spheres. Would be great from initial muscle def then sculpt overe it. Would be nice to be able to move the object around after the final touches are done and see if the muscle movement is possible.
Would make for some out of this world models.
I figure the special effect folks are in for some real fun soon.

Ya beat me to it spaceboy412.
The date for notifying Pixologic of not receiving an email for the update has been changed to read:
"If you do not receive your upgrade instructions by two business days after the actual release of version 3.5 please submit a support ticket to let us know. We will be able to look into the matter and get your upgrade instructions sent to you. Please do not submit a ticket before then, as we will not be able to assist until after all upgrade emails have been sent by Cleverbridge. Upgrade support tickets that are submitted within two business days of the actual ZBrush 3.5 launch will be closed."
There you have it...September 9 means nothing any more.

I kind of understand why people are getting anxious in regards to the release of 3.5 but at the same time I also understand what it's like to try to get something done by a release date then have something go wrong at the last minute which needs to be fixed or just refined. I would prefer a working release of ZB3.5 than a buggy one.
However, I think that Pixologic needs to be more tactful and realistic when announcing new releases. Rather than a set date, provide a general time AND if things seem not to go according to plan, we need to be informed rather than let people stew in their impatience. This is just good business ethics.
Well, I am looking forward to the release. I just hope they do a good job of the tool that allows you to unify meshes. I was going to buy 3dcoat just for that purpose but I tried the demo out and didn't like it very much. Plus the whole religious entry in the license agreement turned me off (technically, I don't think that it's legal to have something like that in a license agreement but I can't actually support the argument from a technical point-of-view just a human rights one).
Cheers,
Paul

mix_mash (member.php?u=107236) - "religious entry"?
Well, NOW I gotta go check it out, lol.
I can't believe this thread has over a 100000 views and no relevant information has been added to the first post.
Instead we need to check an obscure three line support message that self corrrects as the relevant dates go by.
The lack of information is stunning. .
Ok, I just re-read the new support message and it does add information.
All we need now is a brave soul to move the release date to end of september and stop the madness.

Don't argue, the censorship is watching, trust me, 3messages deleted and one modified (not even legal to do that)These are private forums, maintained by Pixologic for the support of their product, that you agree to post at their pleasure. Legal doesnt enter into it...you have no "freedom of speech" here. There is certainly no "right to be a douche", as more than a few people here seem to think there is.
Don't like it? Don't post. You're a guest here. All posts are subject to moderation, including the one *I* had toned down when I told the the whiners to "shut their cry-holes".
So you see, they arent silencing people who are upset at the delay, they are trying to keep the peace. If you had a post moderated, it's likely because you were being a douche some way or another, just like I was when i made my post.

This looks really good, at first I was not so impressed, I'm not into sculpting alien shrimp much. But after seeing the hard modeling enhancements.. wow.
Some points:
1) Retop needs to be vastly improved, we need to be able to sculpt and then click a button and get a nice low poly retop, or at least maybe click and draw polys that can connect when they get close enough to each other.
e.g. Draw a ring of polys around the eyes, mouth, nostrils, ears, draw a line of polys down the nose and then again until they reach a closeness where they connect to each other.
The reason we need to retop is because we need low poly models that work with posing, animation or whatever, for every app that we bring Zbrush sculpts into.
2) It seems the new Zspheres will be great for sculpting very simple things too. I've never been able to create something like ... a ball head with arms and legs. Every time i start, maybe 3 zspheres in and hit A to view the mesh, there's a giant hole in the back, or some part is twisted. This just shouldn't be, it's not intuitive as it claims, and very counterproductive. "Well all you have to do is see thread/tut blah blah blah" That's not the way Zbrush sells itself, you should just be able to draw the spheres and get a mesh that resembles what you've drawn, no holes, twists, bugs. An artist shouldn't be forced to undo things that the program is doing badly.
Anyway, this update is going to be amazing, GOZ has been insanely great so far, I can't wait to use ZSpheres2.
(on tiny complaint is about the grammar used in the videos. In the first video he says something like "A Artist". Should be "An Artist" it flows better to say "an artist" too.
In the 2nd video I noticed he said "freedom to work with tools and mediums", the plural form of "medium" is "media". Like millennium and millennia... although people are trying to change that [out of sheer ignorance].)

I have examined every post in this thread and 99% of them are defending pixologic. <o:p></o:p>
Only a few made some critics, very moderate in my opinion, most of the time made with sense of humor and always referred to the fact that there were some delays. <o:p></o:p>
I don´t understand why people can´t read different opinions and stay calm. Nobody is attacking Zbrush but still we can made some critics. Not being able to differ would make us fanatics and that´s not good. You don’t have to be always agreed with the way things are done to love this fantastic tool called Zbrush. <o:p></o:p>
I could admit if some comments were censored because they could produce confusion like that joke about the release but I wouldn’t like it if this opinion forum would become mere propaganda. Zbrush is the best and don’t need that.<o:p></o:p>

Every time i start, maybe 3 zspheres in and hit A to view the mesh, there's a giant hole in the back, or some part is twisted. This just shouldn't be, it's not intuitive as it claims, and very counterproductive.try adding some more spheres before calling it counterproductive ;)
As long as your origin zsphere isnt an end sphere but somewhere in the middle itll be fine
lol... Missing the deadlines mean less work.... I have thrown deadlines back at them and was given work back within the next couple weeks.

I predict a Zbrush 5 release announcement for April next year :D
I can't see ZB 3.5 being released before next week now. But either way, I don't mind. They are obviously ironing out some last minute problems.
ZB 4 will probably be a Christmas release, as I'm sure they'll be bug fixes to do for 3.5.
:tu: to Pixologic and thanks for what is going to be a great free upgrade.
hahaha, its wednesday and i had a nice dinner with my girlfriend yesterday. we were chilling on the couch and watching monster house.
so i just came home, no zbrush release. hahaha  and you guys sitting infront of the browser and talking/writing nonsense and being itchy like a 5 year old child.

....same with this zbrush thing. if pix hasnt released zbrush then theres obviously a good reason as to why. many of us use this product for work, and if its unstable then it is useless. if it takes them a week, two weeks, month, two months until its ready then so be it.
----------------------------------------------
sry to be an arse, but why they released 3.0/3.1 then?!?!? :D 3.1 is still unstable and the freeze bug is still in there. /which is very annoying especially with my new quadcore, it happens very, very often)

in Support Center (https://support.pixologic.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=16)
Like many of you I´ve been hiting F5 in this site every 2 minutes for the past 10 days, I sleep less hours each night, I wake up and run to the laptop with my eyes almost closed in search of the good new...and I´m happy because it´s being like that!
I´ve been following ZBrush since the begining and like many of you I remember when the big thing was picking a sphere, divide it a few times and sculpt it like clay. At that point I bought my copy of Zbrush. Since then I have zspheres, polypaint, subtools, rigging sistems, etc...and I never paid 1 cent more to have all that.
If someone is working hard to OFFER me(for real)even more magic stuff all I can say is: Pixologic team, take your time! Because I know that when we all get our hands on ZB3.5 we´ll have a lot of fun.

At least they weren't silly enough to offer another hard date. Think vague people, no expectations, no angry (rightly or not, I mean free is free) customers.
I wonder how many d i c k s actually sent pixo support mails that they haven't received upgrade by 9th :)

Might be not related, but any thread has been started with exemples (screenshots etc...) of the new features that the 3.2 mac version has in comparison to teh 3.1 we all (pc users) have?
that would be great to see what the AO offers and how it works etc...
dont have the mac version, so all those feature are mistery to me :(
thanks for any info :)
another date is almost to the end and still nothing happen! If you announce the release date then you should stick to it! Otherwise, keep mouth shut:evil:

wowsa...the new features are incredible...I dont know about you guys but I havent shut zbrush down sice getting the update!!!!!!
I CANT STOP PLAYING WITH THE NEW FEATURESSSSSSSS....
Zspheres 2 absolutely rock and the new retopology tools are a breeze. Even I can use them. The way you simply dray the cursor over the sculpt laying down little quads..and the way they just all fuse and weld together automatically. Its a black art how you guys did this. Congratulations on making my favourite software even better.
Oh..hang on...my bad...lol...this was last nights dream.

Oh that's just evil. I was excited that the emails went out and then read your last line.
Anyway, thanks Pixologic for releasing the videos on ZSpheres II and Surface Noise while we wait for the FREE update.
Why are people saying we shouldn't complain about them not releasing it when they said they would cause it's free? I mean, I can understand that it's free and we shouldn't be whining about it, but Pixologic is a professional company, and they should uphold their PR. Instead, their PR sucks. I don't think I've ever seen them release a deadline, and make it. Honestly, if you're not going to make your deadline, Pixologic, don't release one so early. Your customers would be a lot happier if you said that 3.5 was coming out in 3 weeks, instead of 1, and releasing it in 2.
Really, this has been going on for years now at Pixologic. When will they learn?

I am glad to see so many people are excited about the new release. I certainly am. I agree whole-heartedly with Houdini's comments. I feel very much the same as Houdini. I can't thank the Pixologic team enough for the true generosity they have displayed over the many years I have enjoyed using Zbrush. It is great software and great fun to use, and I can't possibly imagine myself creating anything close to what a lot of individuals are creating with this software.
Everyone keeps talking about their dreams of using the software, the incredible functionality of ZspheresII....etc. Well, here is my nightmare......Pixologic proudly announces the release of ZBrush (Add in your own version number here), the upgrade price for current users:eek: That is when I wake up screaming and breaking into a cold sweat.
So, a prediction of a release date. Personally, I hope it's not until Friday 11 Sept 2009. I like my sleep and wouldn't get much if they release earlier rather than wait for the weekend.;)
Looking forward to the upgrade and the new toys. Thank you Pixologic team, you guys rock!!

..another highlight...yes... but this year :qu:
I just can't take this anymore! :D
ok - this doesn't help me with "the big wait", but perhaps it will comfort some of you guys:
we all know pixo don't release updates every month, like 1.3, 1.31, 1.31b, 1.33, 1.34, etc (heck, the mac users waited months to get their patch)
so let them take their time polishing 3.5 because after that is released, it's gonna be another heck of a long time before Z4 comes out.
would you rather wait another 2 weeks for them to polish ZB3.5 perfectly, and use it for the next 8 months...or would you want them to release it NOW, and work with a buggy version for the next 8 months?
did that comfort anyone? ;)
i would choose the buggy one coz it makes no difference :D

What gets me is that 1/2 of the people who are b****ing here probably won't do much w/3.5 anyway. I'm not saying that they might not be talented, but clearly art is not a major priority to them if they're posting here incessantly instead of... y'know.... making art.
I'm as anxious as the next guy, but you know what they say about watched pots. ZB 3.5 will get here eventually, guys. In the meantime, make something cool.

i have come back from the year 2011 and let me tell you zbrush 3.3 is awesome!
I'm just lurking here, but yea, it looks like the only persons bitchin and moanin are the ones that use Zbrush for hobby.
Professionals are not wasting their time posting "pleaze/prettypleaze/Pixosucksbecause they are late on the release".. Probably they are busy at work, or simply they are a bit more in contact with reality.

Well that sinks it.. I'll be waiting for all you guys to do my beta testing before I break out the update. Ok maybe just maybe I'll install it on a different machine :)
I wonder if we'll ever know what the "last minute holdup" was? At least they didn't give a date for this one. They are learning to not set the expectation. Here's hoping version 4 shows up on the doorstep unannounced like some kid you never knew you had (in the far off future)
I wonder if we'll ever know what the "last minute holdup" was? From my experience doing closed beta testing. (not zbrush) Many beta testers used the software as is unless there was some feature that was horribly broken. Beta testers who aren't being paid to test the software, just take advantage of using the latest and greatest software and find there own little workarounds for the glitches and bugs. Most unpaid beta testers are reluctant to point out little glitches or bugs.
But, when a release date is set. The bug reports come in like an avalanche. The beta testers become afraid that the software is actually going to be released in a somewhat broken state.
I know a lot of people are going to want to throw pixologic under the bus for failing to make the release date. But from my experience I'm really leaning towards blaming the beta testers. But it is possible that, something just came up at the last moment....

Have been at the arse-end of software dev; sometimes all the components work on their own but when you try to cram everything back in the box...

The New Zspheres feature is really cool, but I was wondering if you can use that to build geometry over an obj file or another ztool.
I think I know, but the reality is that I don't know for sure.
Anyway just curious, now I'm back to work.

that would be cool, thats what I hope as well, a controlable/controled blob brush, or zsphere brush, either that or extra stability was added to zspheres to make them a little more predicatable.
still I would rather make my wire thin armatures in a 3d app for scale and game pipe specific practical issues. the blob zphere brush would then let me work on that from there, adding appendages with easy and so forth.
So where is it??
My index finger is numb from pressing the refresh button too many times

Man, I'm thinking not but now that you've said it I really hope this is possible. You sorta can now, I often build armor pieces and such using the retopo method (binding a zsphere to a mesh and go from there) instead or in addition to mesh extract. But it would be nice to be able to use a mesh as armature or something.

If that's not directly possible, a workaround could be to make a proxy model in another app before importing to zbrush, then simply build the armature zspheres as a subtool. Should sort it out nicely. ;)

i just feel compelled to add something to this crazy thread.
i think everything has been said. release dates are posted, none ever held. this is absolutely normal in the software business (and in most other businesses as well) unless the advertised merchandise is already finished and wrapped for delivery. (btw THAT is cheating the customer in my eyes)
and one thing that is becoming more and more apparent in this thread is this:
the professionals do NOT complain and even keep supporting and defending a company that has given and is still giving us one of the most impressive and innovative piece of software i have ever come across (and i have been around since sinclairs zx81) while the kids and possibly otherwise mentally or emotionaly retarded use a forum that allows them to learn and communicate and enjoy wonderful pieces of art to whine and scream and even abuse and offend or just act plain silly (which is the least annoying).
i wish pixologic would just say another date to annoy the hell out of all those who arent mature enough to sit on their hands for a couple of days.
while we're at it i will just have another bowl of mousse au chocolat and practice my modelling skills a little more.

No matter, I'll tray again later. BUT...I did have my fingers silently crossed that we would get some finer control over the new planar brushes, and Backtracking is my wish come true.

This is so far beyond what I had hoped for in the update, I am at a loss for words.
Congrats on this update. I am a mac user, and this really makes up for the wait that we endured for the previous update. Thanks again guys. You rock!
PS: The only other things I would love to eventually see are advanced Retopo tools similar to what 3D coat is doing or uv unwrapping tools similar to headus uvlayout. I would be willing to pay more for a Zbrush update that included those tools. (as opposed to me having to buy them from these vendors and then run multiple programs.)

I had four full days to devote to the new ZBrush over the holiday weekend. I've had nothing to do all day today at work. I'll have three full days to devote Friday to Sunday. After that I don't have another free moment until just before Christmas.
Therefore; ZBrush 3.5 will be released Monday. ;)
For what I'm seeing in the video's I don't mind waiting at all. Rock on ZBrush :tu::tu: I had no idea what a wonderful investment I was making when I bought this or that we would continue to get all these free updates. Happy, happy, joy, joy!

Watching the ZSpheres2 vids they use a transparent skin over the ZSpheres - does anyone know if we are going to have a transparent to ZTL to work with in subtools? They may be ZB3.1 but I haven't found them yet.
no I reply because if I dont reply I wont learn how to use this software.. its worse than modeling clay

It's quite a statement about how incredible ZBrush is that so many people are so concerned about getting their hands on a mere point release, And a free point release at that. Does anyone carry on like this about getting Photoshop 10.3 or 3DSMax 2009.5, Mudbox 2.5 or even OSX 10.5.9? Maybe there is a little noise on their forums, but nothing like this.
Of course theres a very good reason for that, it's the sheer amount of new functionality Pixologic offer at every stage. Remember the last time you had to put your hand in your skyrocket? (pocket for you Seppos (Seppo = Septic tank = yank :)))
It was ZBrush 2. Remember ZBrush 2?
If you looked at it now you'd be blown away, It's a completely different program! Sure it was the best way to sculpt the world had ever seen, especially those of us who didn't spend 2 years learning Maya or Lightwave, but if you had to go back to not having all the stuff we've been given - free of charge - since then, you'd be struggling to make anything much.
In reality this new release should be about ZBrush 6! I can't even wrap my mind around ZSpheres2, it looks truly revolutionary, and my only fear is that it will be a lot harder to learn than the original ZSpheres, it seems impossible that such mind boggling functionality could also be simple to use. It could easily be a program on its own, and it would sell well at $500. But look at all the 'little' stuff the brilliant minds at PixoLand have come up with. Whole concepts like polypainting and subtools, and brilliant ideas like lazy mouse (I still don't know why Adobe etc haven't bought/licensed/stolen that idea!).
I remember the kerfuffle in August 07 when Z3 came out, but then many people were paying for that, if they didn’t have Z2. This is free, and apparently ZBrush 4 will be free as well (to licensed users obviously). All the big companies would have made us hand over a couple hundred dollars at least three times since Z2, thank god a big company haven't bought it yet, I hope to god they never do!
What can they possibly have left to blow us away with in Z4? I simply can't think of anything! A month ago I thought maybe something to make hard surface modeling easier, but they’ve done that already!
Still, no point getting too excited, I'm a Mac person, so I still got a while to wait, but I'm looking forward to seeing what the Win crowd make with Zspheres2, and getting reports on how easy it is (or not).
Ah well, Gonna stop thinking about it now, lest I go mad! Thanks Pixo, can't wait!

I could've sworn that they were 2 separate things, the news posting and the knowledge base article. I do know that the news posting only had one comment though. That comment did not make the shift over to the KB. Must be making way for the official 3.5 notice I'd guess.

video section at pixologic.com is updating:

http://www.pixologic.com/zclassroom/homeroom/
yesterday it had new zspheres and noise,
today is the planer trim brushes
Nice work Pixologic, you certainly keep pushing the boat out with new features unseen before now.
I hope with all these nice new hard surface brushes that the retopo tools have vastly improoved, like maybe edge snapping for topology, and much closer zoom. Be a shame to be stuck will just high res models that are bound to Zbrush.
What would be nice is the ability to sellect edges, and faces as well as verts. Have a edge loop sellection, this would be handy for creating new topology for edges.
Why Pixo removed news about 3.5 release from support center?
