Try doing this in 3D Studio in 9 hours. I finally got a day to myself and ZBrush and this is what I did.
It is based on a Warhammer marine and I have saved every stage from the initial cavas through to re-impoting the image for touch up. Apart from signature it is 100% ZBrush, all additional shadows and colour adjustments were done after re-importing the rendered image back into a new document.
The image was rendered at 2500x2000 with 8 lights, 7 layers, shadows but no depth focus. Texturemaster was used extensivly for the initial corroded textures.

5 Minutes in photoshop can be fun though. Grayscale, duplicate the layer, add noise, reduce opacity of layer to give grain effect.

Absolutely incredible--sensational work--and thanks for the zoom shots too! -- :tu: :tu: :tu: -to infinity!
I agree with robo, absolutely incredible :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:

Astounding interpretation.
The Blue Cape seals the deal for me. I feel bad our poor Orc had to take one in the head though. ;)
I could go on for hours about the talent you possess. But that's a given.
For me, this is your Epoch. :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:
I'm with Kathy. This is the most impressive pic that you've done to date. A true MaZterpiece! The colors are beautiful, and the details are astounding. I love the sky. The cape. The staff. Everything about it!
This marine must not like cigars, though, eh? Although his action appears to have been a bit extreme. :D
Thanks for all of the detail shots in the other thread, too. They were really nice to look at and allow us to trully appreciate all the work that you did on this. Sweet!

I'll have to go along with Robo, Kathy, Stargo and Aurick. This goes off. So much to look at. Solid. I like the fluttering things on the cross. Also the skull on the shoulder. I could look at this for a long time, a fine feast.

Sensational! Love the rich textures.

Amazing piece! You have out-done yourself. I can spend an hour looking at this one, all the details. I assume you will show this to Games Workshop as a possible poster or game box design ;) .
Fantastic work Glen.really shines.

I think you should have gone for the "white dragon" magazine. what am I saying? probably for "heavy metal" as well :)
it is great, Glen!
tell me, are you sure about the foot armour? it is the only thing that I find enstrangeing in this absolute masterpiece.
by the way, how many people here have played warhammer 40000 and/or bloodbowl?

Hey Christos, obviously you've never dropped one of those spikey things on your foot. This guy is not going to do it twice. ;)

Perfection of execution of design and execution, Glen...I'm a major believer in this software, partly because of this technique of model, render, export image, new doc, import, fill, model, etc. I think we're only beginning with this software , and thanks for illuminating the path with great technique, and superlative imagery.

good point thelonious!
no, I just meant that the foot design mismatches the original space marine foot armour. but if it's more effective protection against a flail, then I rest my case :)

wowzer southern youve out done yourself on this one... great image... a perfect marine you might say...
This is a typical example of the sort of image I like to see. It holds a lot of information, detail texture etc, i must say that your use of colour and light in this, and your other work is outstanding.
looking at your work is very encouraging, it is a leeding example of what can be achieved through dedication, hardwork and talent.

All of the above southern!
A most excellent image in all respects!

Once again Glen youn have shown us in a very positive way what can be acomplished if the time is spent mastering the finer aspects of ZBrush. This is a Masterly done image which could only be produced by someone who is very versed with this program.
