This follows this posting by PIX on Ken B's fantastic 'Eric' thread...Since it uses the technique PIX describes, I thought I would post this further example of what you can do with this modelling technique, to create sudden transitions, and keep the edges sharp...

And here is basically how I did it...
Take a cylinder tool, increase HDiv and VDiv to max...Apply taper as desired...Pick a material...Draw, then enter Edit mode...Set Symmetry on, (I used 13 since this is made to hold 'booty' in my Troll scene...), select move...
Now here you have choices...
This was mostly done very quickly by holding down the Alt key in move mode, and changing brush sizes, and intensity...Also used was draw, with and without Alt Key... ;)
