I was fiddling with this program called Quat 1.11 and managed to finagle a depth map (using creative use of the color gradient) of this quaternion fractal. I converted it into an alpha and used the 3d depth brush tool to place it on the canvas. I just thought it looked kind of interesting.

If interested the program used to generate the alpha can be found here:

Very nice. I've been Texturemastering objects, converting the texture to an alpha and then applying the deformer to masked object.

It can create really weird stuff.. Well done WO

Excellent technique that has created an transcendental object containing it's own fascination.

Also....
It would make a great "alternative" trophy design, which could be presented at the Weirdist Kid at School annual award.
Certainly would be better than the usual Sportiest Bugger or Cleverest Git awards.

More please.
I'm in the mood for meditating.

Kind of looks like a new Gem H'Dar ship from Deep Space Nine...imagine the possibilities. :tu: :tu: :tu:

Thanks for the links Boozy Floozie. That Chaos Pro program listed at Freaking Fractals looks especially interesting.

Of course, I always have a special place in my heart for software that's been ported from the Amiga. :D

Intresting idea. I guess I should take your advice and leave it alone.

You've done a couple things here that are really awesome. First, I love the material that you created for the background. The noise curve is very realistic. Second, the lighting really shows off your -- whatever it is -- very effectively.

First off, ^^ LOL at Robotalk's description. :)

It does kind of look like Count Chocula from the back.

Second of all, I can't really take credit for the materials, since these materials came with Pixolator's Material Pack.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Here's another quaternion fractal rendering:

Very neat images WingedOne. :tu:

In the last image, is that applied to a modeled 3d object, or a simple plane? Looks very cool.

I used the 3D Depth Brush.

What a great bit of information you've shared here, WingedOne. Very much worth exploring :tu: :tu: :tu:

Just tried that program for the fractals, and have finaly figured out how to get it off that sphere! (Slow learner over here. :))
