everyone is required to become something or other. roles are essential in our western societies. a child could well be a newly bought product. the parents and society will plug it in to see what it can do. more often than not, it'll fry. until they built a better electronic model with judgement built in. my guess is it won't be affordable...

very interesting, its that bighum guy did have a point with his praise for you. This would make an excelent supplimentary piec for the second module of the HSC. Which was the artwork though, Did you make the piece to back up the statment or did compose the statment to back up the piece or neither :qu:
Brilliant technical work too

Brilliant comeback.
Your work is never tiring chris. I don't know whether you have raised the bar or moved it sideways but this is compelling, the fish is brilliant the way you have acheived such a realistic texture on a very difficult subject. While your work displays something more than technical virtuosity thereby it is still a delight to see.
Can we please have a close up of the fish. I know there's more in there.

the device reminds me of what we call a "stinger" which is used alot by inmates in prison over here...(I used to be a corrections officer for about a year at Riverbend Max Securty Inst. in nashville)They used them to heat hotdogs up and I think you could immerse them to heat a drink up....I have one in the garage....anyhoo I digress, the term stinger hit me big time when I saw the image and your artist statement.....and I agree to alot of the statement.....another good image and another nice thought provoking piece....

Here is the close up that I asked Chris to post. He says he has been banned. So he sent it to me to update.
It is pretty good eh!

Maybe I'm missing something here . . .
I've been looking at this image for a while now, but for the life of me, I can't figure out just what it's supposed to be???
Maybe someone could explain what this thing is supposed to be or to do? It looks something like a curling iron, with the slight resemblance of a fish on the end??? But I would have no idea of what a person would do with it???
See'ya later . . . Mark.
I think you plug it i and grow a fish... but I'm not sure... I really like it though :D :D :D . Is this one painted or 3D-Modeled? It looks alot more like a 3D-Model than the last one, but a really skilled artist can make their paintings look perfectly 3D ;)
Now THAT is something that you don't see every day. Very unusual -- just what I'd expect from you, Christos. I don't know what it is, either (although I have some ideas, considering the symbolism you've given to fish in the past), but I like it.
It's fantastic that you and your great
pictures are back Christos!!!
I really love them and they will inspire me!

to answer the question by the dear ZBC fellow member, the fish skin is painted in zbrush, and exported as a bmp, and then plastered over a 3D fish modelled from a sphere. the handpiece is also modelled from a box, as is the plug. the cord and most of the details, as well as the shadows are painted on the finished image by hand.
i am no longer banned, and so I can say this painting doesn't have anything to do with pornography, but you may interpret it the way you prefer, of course.
what I made is a "model-of-life device" running on alternate current. whoever isn't good with symbolism, I'll be glad to explain 121.

http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1016372351lvs.jpg
1. the finished handpiece
2. starting out with a box
3. masking two areas around the edges
4. size the unmasked areas, so two notches appear
5. work on the nothces to give them respectively a round and an inverse triangular form. also, Zsubstract a hole
6. with symmetry turned on (to affect both sides of the handpiece) and using "move" create the mounds and valleys for the fingers, and for a little ergonomy (anatomical shape) make a round mound on top for the palm to grasp comfortably.
7. finally, with symmetry still on, use Zadd with a large brush tip, to add spherical valleys to the sides.

For the handle notch:
done in photoshop:
a. the exported handpiece in .psd format
b. make a ribbon of a light colour (so you can see what you're doing) that follows the mounds on the side
c. with "preserve transparency" on the layers pallette turned on, use a brush to change the colour of the ribbon to the base colour of the handpiece
d. use layers pallette-> effects, to add an Inner Bevel effect, and make "Highlight Color" a light blue, and "Shadow Color" a deep blue. adjust the "Angle" of the bevel as necessary.
that covers it. :)
love, christos
cool handle.
the Fish Pornographic Comment was Ment as a Joke i didn't think you was going to take me seriously LOL

thanks for the cool handle tip christos.. very useful stuff here..
Yep, you definitely have a good handle on using ZBrush. heh heh.
Nice technique, Chris. It's great to get a look at how you go about things. Thanks!
And good to see you back in the forum, too. :)
Cool image. Hope it's ok to comment on technique instead of content ;) --the strong drop shadow towards the end of the handle makes it look a bit like the handle is floating. Not sure if that's a painted shadow or if it's rendered (I'm very new to zbrush). Anyway the shadow up by the fishie part seems more like it's lying on a surface than the end of the handle does.

thank you canary. it is very likely that I've made the mistake you point out
the shadow is painted, and although I didn't notice the fault, it doesn't mean it isn't there.
as I'm never happy with a painting no matter how long I've been working on it, at some point I have to consider it finished- if only to relieve my schedule
this also means that as long as it is finished, I will leave it as is and never touch it again. If I think it's a particularly successful idea gone totally wrong in execution, I feel it's better to do it all over again.
artists need this sort of thing. now I know that this painting has its own charm, because I made an eye-popping mistake of perspective.
concerning the content, I will not correct you, aurick, in thinking of the fish as a phallic symbol. it isn't MY invention, but a widely-accepted surrealist and symbolist symbol. but sometimes symbols just don't apply. a dwarf in a dream doesn't always represent the phallus, as Freud said, and sometimes an apple is just an apple. the symbolism of this painting is stated from the beginning of this post. any other explanations are the beholder's privilege.
