View Full Version : Bio-enginering at its finest
I have no idea what it might be. Maybe a cross between a Tomato and a Potato plant?
Newspaper excerpt:
....Although all the engineers were very happy and proud to have produced this fine specimen, the hardest part still lay ahead. What the hell to call it! A Pomtato?.... a Tompato ? :D

Just don't call it the testical plant. That would be a marketing nightmare...
Hey, kids, we're having testical plant parmigiana tonight. Yummmmm!

Maybe it's a distant cousin to the kiwi?

I've seen 'em smaller, I've seen 'em bigger, but that's the first time I've seen a hairy one. Aubergine, that is. :D

wow , almost missed this one , very nice scene and wacky idea :)
Jaycephus: Lol, yep you can see they are going to have a hard time in the marketing department :)
bholtzman: Not the kind of kiwis I eat..wait what are kiwis? Yes, okay, and what is fruit? :)
Frenchy: Well I thought it was funny :)
Flycatcher: :D I had a feeling that was going to come, but you were the first so you won a prize. During the next couple of days check your letter box for a fruity testicle :D
PushGetty/The Namek: Thank you very much. Much appreciated :tu:
Someone asked me about how the glass was done so I did a quick 1-6, shown here in case anyone else is interested.

::1: Set up your scene as normal. Do test renderings, tweaking of materials, add details with 2.5d brushes etc
::2: You can also have the "standin" for the glass visible while you do this (1) as long as you can easily erase it later (f.x put it on a layer by itself).
::3: In order to get the full effect it is now necessary to merge all layers. So in most cases you will wait with doing the glass until the last momemt. Merge layers.
::4: Render and bake the merged layer. Turn of Best Render.
::5: If you had a standin glass object, it would have been a good idea to place a marker because now we put the glass object back in the scene. Place the glass object and stay in edit mode. Turn of the RGB/Z lock, this lets you lower the RGB value while still having full Z values. Lower it untill it looks "okay" and start playing with the Diffuse Curve of the material used for the glass and also the High Dynamic Range slider, in that order. Nothing more to add here than tweak, tweak and tweak again. Don't forget to also change the Refraction value in the Draw palette which is the reason why the previous steps were taken (3-4). Why? Check the 1.55b manual page 81
::6: Now the fun part comes when trying to integrate the glass into the scene. If there is a light somewhere ( like the blue light from the display) try and reflect that in the glass. You can also add a little caustic element to the scene, but don't overdo it like I did :)
The Colorizer brush and HighlighterII brush are good tools for this job.
Thats it. Off course that is only how I did it and there are probably other ways, furthermore do not limit yourself to only editing the Diffuse Curve and the High Dynamic Range Slider (5), try anything. Whatever gets the look you are after is good enough.
How do you get the stand in and the glass to match? Are they part of the same object and mask, hide points and then add the cloned object?
Cool scene, btw. Realistic approach TVeyes.

Brilliant... simple, yet realistic. Love it :)
Cool render  :tu: Does it have any favorite TV shows?
I think this might throw all the chefs off their game if Chairman Kaga inroduced this as "kyo no tema" :D
And that pottery -- is that a SweepProfile with HDivide = 4 :qu: hmmm ...

Hee Hee this made me smile! Somehow the idea of having to shave my food before I can eat it sort of puts me off... :p
But this picture is really well done, I like it!
I think it is great, but frankly that background doesn't let your eyes watch for a second the main object of the picture. It is a pity as it is really well rendered.
I suggest creating a less complex bg, that enhances the plant instead of dispersing your focus.
But anyways, I'd love to be able to create that kind of pic.
Thank you for the comments everyone.
Tayete: Thanks for the critique, thats what I was looking for :tu: The picture was made in a single session and I lost my concentration during the end where I added the sunbeams. IMO that is what breaks the focus, the lighting is too strong in the middle. That being said I viewed this picture on my friends monitor and it was not very viewable. So if I had to it all again I would probably go for a less complex background or maybe reduce the contrast of the background. Thanks for the critique.
