Hey all,
Did this as a possible album cover for one of my bands -LOOK- and am going to show it to the guys later this week.
What do you think? (1-2-1 welcome, as always).
Some of you might remember the "snake guy" from before (when I was doing my spiral neck experiments). I really dug the character but was unable to find a use for him until I started playing around with album cover ideas. He seemed to fit in here nicely. (I think so anyway, but what does an idiot bass-player know?)
Let me know if it's too weird. (I think my keyboard player will like it but the drummer will probably balk).

PS some shadowing was done post Zbrush (as well as some compositing and the lettering) in PhotoShop. All other elements were modeled/textured/etc. in Z.

Hey Angst...I'm a drummer, and I think it's great!!!
:tu: :tu: :tu:  :tu: :tu: :tu:
As for a 121...Impossible. I can't see anything but a wonderfully executed, humorous image, and have absolutely no criticism whatsoever!!!!

Oh, and don't underestimate the ability of the Shading Enhancer brush with the ALT key held down, for shadowing effects!!

Angst, I'd love to see this on an album. It's great, in every aspect. Far too many bands take themselves far too seriously - so some humor is refreshing. Hope the rest of the guys, in the band, like it as much.

as a long time ago i too was the little rocker.. i played the drums..but as the years went by i had to sell off my passion and focus on my new passions.. (my girls)...now i just drive them crazy because i love to tap to a beat with my fingers..oh well life goes on.. it looks like youve started something here with this image.. theres just one thing that i would add to it..and thats a tail coming out of the back floor crack...other than that its a awesome cd cover...

Hey guys,
Looking at the image I decided to put the rest of the "body" in... any better?
I actually like it with the more complex elements (I think it fills up the composition a little better). Thoughts?
Thanks for the kind words before, everybody, it means a lot.
Kathy - sorry, I feel it needs the body but I'll certainly listen to any critique you have after I post this new image.
Hitch2- LOOK is a progressive rock band sort of like Journey meets Kansas meets Yes meets Level 42 (for the funk). I'm in several other bands that range from ultra progressive (we've been described as a Yes/ELP sound), another that's just bizarre complex rock (King Crimson and Soundgarden) and yet another one that's powerful folk/funk rock (America meets Journey with some slap and two-handed bass). It's a wonder I have time to draw.
Dr. JJwow - I just began posting this as I saw your post... great minds think alike, eh?
Stonecutter - believe me I know very well how exceptional the Shading/Enhancer brush is... I use it exensively when modeling/texturing. This time, since I was compositing in PhotoShop anyway, it was just easier to do it there. Thanks for the reminder, though... never hurts.

Model/texture/lighting/rendering in Z. Compositing and some shadowing (as well as the former lettering) in Photoshop.

The full body does improve the composition...
As you can see in the 'Karrot' thread I just posted, lettering is easy to do in Z... ;)

I agree with Dr.JJ...the tweaks added to the piece :tu: :tu: :tu: and you are a busy individual....but I am glad you can still make time to Z

fantastic colours and concept... the 2nd version is definitely more eye-catching - no doubt: they just have to get that great z-art printed onto the cover!

Well, I was half right. The keyboard player liked it (I thought he might) and I've yet to show the drummer.
On the down side, though, it probably won't be a cover for the band LOOK but rather another, more progressive project that my keybaord player and I will be doing this spring.
Any title ideas for the piece? (The progresive project's album title won't be "A beginner's guide to slouching", so even though we'll probably use the picture, we won't be using THAT title.
Based on what it looks like, please feel free to help me out with names, what say?

Very nice work!
I am especially interested in the snake body.
Could you give a very brief instruction?
What tool did you use? What parameter dials did you adjust to get the snake body?
Appreciate the general idea.

Thank you.
HimiCo :) :) :)

Zpeople, sorry about asking the silly question. I found it.

HimiCo - Not a silly question at all (I, myself agonized over it for awhile until I figured it out - would have loved for someone to have been able to explain it to me in the beginning). Anyway, the gist of it is this: Spiral brush (I'm sure you've figured that out by now, though). There really isn't much to say except that when you start playing with the Initialize commands (under Tools:Initialize) you'll see all the possibilities that present themselves for the reshaping of the spiral. My advice is to visualize the piece you want to do and just start tweaking. That probably doesn't help much does it? Well, the snake body I did is actually three seperate pieces (I wish I could have done it all in one but to my understanding, the spiral brush will only take one rotational direction at a time), so I just modelled three seperate instances of curves (with differing begining and ending thicknesses)and placed them in accordingly.
The real secret (as with most ZBrush models) is the texturing. The spirals on their own are rather uninspiring, but I fould a great lizard skin texture that I applied and Alpha Bumped to give the piece it's feel (The head too, I believe has the same texture).
Hope any of this helps.
Keep asking questions, it's how you learn and this is the ONE forum I've found where people are more than willing to help...
