Sorry to post this in the main zbrush forum, but I guess you can't post a question in the F.A.Q. forum. well, here's my question: How do you get rid of the black backdrop that your model seems to disappear into so that you can take a screenshot?

What do you mean? You should be able to take a screen shot of anything that's visible on the screen.

If you're referring to the clipping plane, which is the depth that the object disappears at as you move it further from the camera, you can't get rid of it. That is part of the functionality of ZBrush, but you have something like 8000 pixols of depth to work with (from -4000 through 0 to 4000).

There are several ways that you can move your object closer to the camera. One is to use Transform:Move or Transform:Rotate to get the gyro. Click outside the gyro and drag the cursor down. The object will move toward you (dragging up would move it farther away, hiding it deeper behind the clipping plane). You can also go to Transform:Move:Info and change the Z value manually. Positive numbers are farther away, while negative numbers are closer. Finally, you can move an entire layer in the Layers palette by entering a new value for its depth. Same deal: positive is farther, negative is closer.

To move your object entirely in front of the clipping plane, follow these instructions:

1. Exit edit mode, by clicking on 'Edit Object' in the Transform or Floating Palettes, or by pressing 'T' on your keyboard.

2. Enter 'Move' mode by pressing the Move button in the Transform or floating Palettes or by pressing 'W'.

You should see the Transform Gyro positioned over your object.

3. Click an drag down outside of your object to bring the object closer, or click and drag up to push the object further away.

4. Click Edit Object again to go back into edit mode.

Note: If you want to change the canvas color from the default black, you can click on the 'Document Backround Color' rectangle in the Document:Modifiers SubPalette to change the backround to the currently selected color.

Aurick, in ZBrush Manual i have read this (pag. 292): "The back clipping plane is set at two times the width of the canvas, so with a 640 x 480 canvas, the
clipping plane will be at a z value of -1280."
Who was right ??

From my small experience: sometimes i use CONTINUOS color on PICKER Palette: with this set i always make an object with the background color and i can't see it !!
Aniway you can see it using the ZuZu method.

Well, if you're using Continuous color in the Picker, then when you draw an object the color will automatically be set to whatever color is already present at the point that you click to start drawing your object. So if you start drawing at a blank spot on the canvas, then the color of the object will match the color of the canvas. Or to put it another way, with Continuous turned on, you are continuously picking a new color for everything you draw, every time you click a spot on the canvas to draw something.

The reason that ZuZu's method is working for you is that when you use the gyro to move the object, you are entering Edit mode. When you are in Edit mode, whatever changes you make in the Color or Material palettes will immediately take effect on your object. This has the effect with what you've been doing of overriding the initial color that was set by the Continuous Color Picker and reverting to the color that you have selected in the Color palette.

So, to answer the initial post's question, turn off Continuous color in the Picker palette. Only the color square should be selected for most work, just as with the material Picker setting. Once and Continuous are meant for special cases.
