I have been experiencing different results with an exported ZTool head in a number of different applications. I`m posting results from Poser, Rhino and Bryce and a copy of the optimized tool 400k (http://www.southerngfx.co.uk/uploads/atlantean/atlantean.ZIP) I used to do it. Could you guys have a go with any other applications you own and see what you come up with. Try to keep the head in the same format as below for comparison.

i have no other apps, but it looks like their users could make very good use of zbrush... very convincing and informative catalogue that is... thank you, southern! :D

I am new in Zbrush but i did some test ,exporting mesh in obj format .I convert obj to 3ds using 3d explorer because my file was big.Importing in Carrara and VUE d'Esprit was ok.What you mean with optimization in Zbrush? How can i do it?I am still reading the reference manual(no index on printed pdf i did). Thanks

I'll give it a go in Animation Master and post a shot or two. ;)

Under the tool's deformation subpallette there's a slider labeled "optimize". You can use that.

Sorry, I missed your Question Marital. I`m having system problems again (Or shoulod I say Windows ME problems)

:(

Thanks Winged One.

Hey, Southern, I got rid of Windows ME and switched to Windows 2000. Not a single problem since, except for some games, which I don't have time for anyway.

Hi Southern

Here is your model as rendered in Lightwave. There are a few holes in the geometry, which can be fixed by selecting and flipping the offending polygons, but I left them as-is for this test.

I hope that helps

Hi Southern,

Here's Carrara. http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads0/user_image-1001597023hnz.jpg

Thanks all. Looking good so far.

Ken: Cheers for that.

I would be really interested to see this thread go further. Has anyone got access to 3DSMAX that could do a test render for me?

Greg: I havn`t seen much work done in Hash Animation master do go for it!.

How about...

Carrarra?
Rhino2/Flamingo?
Electric Image?

Hey Glen.
Heres's a pic of my 2.9 meg Max file. (I threw a bit of specular & bump map on it)
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads0/user_image-1001544276yhj.jpg http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads0/user_image-1001544461tfy.jpg

This high density mesh is totally impractical in the 3d-world as it would break any computers back trying to animate it. The goal is to have a low-polygon model with a detailed texture-map wrapped around it.

I put an optimise modifer on the model and it screwed up the texture cordinates.

And I'm too lazy at the moment to try and fix it.

So I tried a demo of a well-know polygon reduction plugin for Studio Max called Polygon Cruncher by Blackfeet (http://www.blackfeet.com/plugins/us/polygoncruncher/). This decreased the polygons REALLY WELL and kept the texture intact and correctly placed, and didn't destroy the edges. Unfortunatly I couldn't save the model as it was a demo.
The picture below has reduced the model down to 3% of the original model (from 65000 faces down to 2000! - subtracting 1185 vertices!) which is a little overkill...
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads0/user_image-1001545666ydd.jpg

But the final model came out pretty close to the original with 97% of its vertices missing. (note: this is a non-rendered screen-grab from the PolygonCruncher application!)

Oh yeah, I also use a 3d converstion program called 3d Exploration by Righthemisphere (http://www.righthemisphere.com/products/3dexplore/index.htm) (Makers of Deep Paint) .. to convert the .obj file to a .3DS file. You can download a 30 day trial if you want to try it.

Anyway I better get back to my other ZB projects! Catch ya.
Upham :)
