I made this with the fiber brush , mixed with the picker tool, (these tools should be married).

I think this piece is amazing. It strikes me just the right way. I image this about 6 feet tall. You can just about feel the brush strokes...

This one says "Witch Doctor" to me.
Hope you're not putting the voodoo on anyone by posting this painting...
Nice one Evoken. Could you explain a little more about the picker tools' role?
Cheers. :tu:

Hi Evoken,

Nice abstract, vibrant colors !!

You mention the picker and the fiber brush should be married, since you mentioned you "mixed" them you know they can be married, at least temporarily.

Let me share with you some of how I use of the fiber brush - picker that may not be obvious . . . forgive me if you're already aware of this info, I know you didn't ask for it.

Whenever I use the fiber brush I first duplicate the layer upon which I'll be using the fiber brush then bake the version that is highest in the palette. Then in the picker palette I change the color setting to "continuous" and change the layer setting (bottom) from "all" to "other" The reason I do this is two fold. First is for the Zdepth information - because the direction of the fibers is determined by the orientation of the underlying geometry (and the modifiers under fiber brush) whenever the fiber brush paints where fibers already exist - the fibers go in wild unpredictable directions. Since you've selected "other", the fiber brush ignores the fibers you just created and looks at the "bald" other layer below. This method is also a cure for when your brush stroke "times out" and you must release and press the mouse button again. If you want it to be unpredictable at any time just re-select "active" layer.

The second reason for this method is there will be times when you want the fiber color to be predictable but completely different then the underlying model. For instance normal fleshy scalp with black - white - gray hairs or the pink rubber scalp of a clown but rainbow color tufts of hair. To achieve this, on the unbaked layer paint the model in any way you see fit then apply the fiber brush on the baked layer. Because you've chosen "other" layer the fiber colors will be completely different than the model's color yet in a predictable way.

Again, I hope this didn't sound patronizing if this was old news.

Creating feels good, doesn't it :)

Sure as hell wasn't 'Old News' to me, JD!
I didn't know about this at all! I'll definitely try this, and here's a great reason to keep your eye on these threads...You can always learn!

Great advice, Impending. Gonna have to try that! Also, in case I forgot to mention it to Evoken, the colors here are fab! I am into bright, ethnic colors, and this definitely fits the bill.

Thank You J.D.,
That is just the explaination I was hoping for.
Something more to experiment with. Thanks for sharing. :tu:
